Madden 08 Hands On
Moderators: Bill_Abner, ScoopBrady
I think we've learned from playing these games that you can't trust any of these game developers when they put out their game enhancements. Madden and 2k8 aren't even out yet and we have people arguing about supposed gameplay enhancements to these games provided by who? Yes, the game developers. I'd rather trust a used car salesman.
We should go back to this thread when the games are actually out. Then we'll see if these enhancements are real or just your regular yearly BS PR.

That a big difference then adding something like gang tackling, new catches and new OL / DL play. Those thing weren't there before, so they are not being added back in.Inuyasha wrote:Goes back to what I was saying about NCAA. So in 2010, when they finally 'add' create a school in ncaa, I should get excited for this 'new' feature on the next-gen version?

Are you talking about Ben Brinkman, who i also think is a good guy. The same Ben Brinkman who told us how they concentrated on gameplay (did they have another choice after 06?) and then after the game was out a month had a press junket where he said our fielding isn't up to par among other things.Waddupcouzin wrote:I'm sorry did I say EA sucks, and now you're coming across very condescending. I've purchased the game the last two years (and years prior), so it's not like I am bashing a game that I know nothing about. If they implement gang-tackling this year, fine. When I read previews about them (EA) saying, "Hey we're concentrating on gameplay this year???" Yeah....you think??? You mean no more "Liquid A.I"...At least the dude from 2K Baseball (Name Escapes me) had the stones to say we're just going to concentrate on gameplay, no more bells and whistles.
Yeah he was really upfront.

As for the EA sucks part, I'm basing it on what you've written.
Are we to believe there is any chance this game could impress you? Maybe I am alone in thinking that you've already made your mind up on madden beofre playing it. Somehow I doubt it thought. It seems like that's all Madden sticks us with is Roster Updates. When David Ortiz said that the last best Madden Game was '04, I thought to myself, WTF?!?!? I'm a 2K fan, but these Muggs from EA need to be shot!
So again I ask why partake in a madden discussion if your sole purpose is to complain that the added features took too long to get here.[/quote]

I guess I would liken it to voting...What's the adage, if you don't vote, you can't complain, right? Well, I've paid my money for the game, so I am voicing my opinion. Good, Bad, or Indifferent. I can give that correct??? Unless "Madden Discussion" equals what you think is proper? At this stage of the game, I don't think it's about, "impressing" me, put out a game that plays well without the hoopla of "Liquid A.I.".

I was simply pointing out that saying that game play improvements shouldn't be listed as improvements or make you happy because someone felt they needed to be there 2 or 3 years ago was just a pointless statement.Dave wrote:It is very clear that there will need to be a "no APF talk" and "no Madden talk" impressions threads this year for each game, along with a comparison thread.
It's sole purpose was to create this type of thread, as it provided no insight into madden 08 discussion.
How it digressed from there is typical.

The worst part about it for me is, I complained for years about Mario Running, Suction Blocking, no gang tackling, etc., to the point of getting on people's nerves about it. Every year, I was told to stop complaining, to just accept Madden for what it is and to go play 2k if I didn't like it. Now that EA/Tiburon has finally made those changes, the same people this year will be saying how great those "improvements" are. Too bad I can't tell all of those people to f*** off. They, along with the folks at Tiburon, are the ones responsible for setting back proper football game advancement over the last 4-5 years, IMO.

This is true, the madden boys are just as bad. Hopefully the game will play as good as the short snippets look. There is no guarantee however.GTHobbes wrote:The worst part about it for me is, I complained for years about Mario Running, Suction Blocking, no gang tackling, etc., to the point of getting on people's nerves about it. As long as they dont screw with last years play and only repair its short comings Madden will once again be an excellent game.
Did I just say that?

Madden 2007 needs a lot of improvements. The current generation versions are better than the last-generation versions (PS2/Xbox) but there's a lot of room for improvement.
I'm skeptical that Weapons system is the way to improve gameplay or make it more realistic. It sounds like the feature they introduced in NCAA a few years ago for star players, where they exaggerated the attributes and play-results of certain players.
Sure the NFL does key on certain players but do we really need a special icon on top of Brady or Peyton to know they can do some special things?
What makes them special is their accuracy. Sure they've been well-coached to read defenses -- in fact, these days, the coaches can speak in their earpiece while they're in the huddle, pointing out specific keys.
But in Madden 2008, they will be able to see the exact coaches camera view of the defenses? That's not reading the defense so much as stealing the other team's playbook and then intercepting the playcalls communicated between the coordinators and the head coach. Good player will be able to read the defense at the LOS by using motion and looking at the defensive alignment as well as movements right after the snap -- LBs taking drops or blitzing, CBs jamming or dropping back, etc.
So Weapons will be some gimmick like the cone or the lead blocking thing last year. It will have some visual marker so you know you're getting some special feature this year.
If the effect is minimal like Lead Blocking, that's the best I would hope for, instead of making the gameplay unrealistic with Weapons players performing superhuman feats.

Maybe APF 2k9 will come with a Team Construction DiscMizzouRah wrote:I'm still laughing about Brando mentioning 4th and Inches.

Sorry for helping the thread get off track.
Anyway, I do think, from what I've seen, Madden 08 looks better than last year's game. I hope the playmakers thing is not overdone, but it's helpful to be able to quickly see who the stars of a team are without having to stop and look at ratings. I have a better feeling about this year's game than I did last year's.
One annoyance: it looks like the score ticker still has the bright white outline. EA once again forgets that some people game on plasmas.

It's ridonculous Danimal, not rhinoculous. I had no idea what you were talking about either. Had you typed ridonculous I would have known.Danimal wrote:Oh its a Mike & Mike in the morning thing. I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

Yep, the game does indeed look pretty nice. But, come the F on EA, the radio announcer has to go! Or at the very least add a color commentator. It's just so disappointing that the presentation is sooooo stale. Why in the world have they not taken full advantage of the ESPN license??????? It's complete b.s.!

Yes it does and I think if you go look at the video interview video you will see that this is an earlier build of the game and that one looks even better.MizzouRah wrote:GTHobbes wrote:Gametrailers has the first gameplay footage of Madden 7.5:

Now we just need a APF 2.3 trailer and we're all set.
