So, I started a legacy last night with Kansas. I didn't get too involved in the recruiting as I was more interested in starting my season. There was one screen that had nine attribute points that I could add to the makeup of my team. I think there were five different catagories and they had letter grades next to them. All my grades were B+ or higher, so I didn't think to boost up the attributes.
However, I got torched in the first half of my first game by Northern Arizona. Seemingly, I played better in the second half, but N.A. played like a top ten team. They ended up winning by eight or so points. So, I'm wondering IF I had increased my attribute points, whether or not my team would have played better defensively. I just seemed to struggle on defense the entire game. It was frusturating to say the least.
By the way, I played on All-American.

I think the game is a lot harder compared to past editions that I could play on the hardest setting. I actually went back to Starter for awhile, although I may be ready for All-Conference. I'm not sure how much it matters but I also lowered the unity slider to 50 from default of 100 and my games seem more realistic with substantially less blown layups.

I lowered the Unity slider to 70 for both teams, but perhaps I'll lower it to 50 and see if that makes a difference. I too didn't see as many blown layups last night, but I really don't know if that particular slider makes a difference or not.
Steals, I lowered to 30. Also, I think I lowered the steal success rate to the same level. That made an immediate difference. Now, I don't see as many bonehead plays by the CPU.
I lowered dunks in traffic to 50, and that made a big difference. Before, it seemed players consistently were one handing dunks down off rebounds. It seems more realistic now.
Also, I lowered the CPU 3 point tendency slider a few notches. In past editions, it seemed like they never took enough 3's. Now, it seems like the CPU loves the three point shot. I just don't know how far to lower it, or if I should lower it at all. Also, is it too effective?

Those attribute points are for your coach. If you had started a career legacy instead (your team must be from a list of crappy ones), where you are limited to 5 attribute points when your coaching categories start at C -.sportdan30 wrote:So, I started a legacy last night with Kansas. I've described what these categories do in a post over at OS:
http://forums.operationsports.com/vBull ... ostcount=5
It used to be that in open legacies, you had no attributes and only stayed at the same school. Now you can be fired and the coaching carousel works just like in career legacies. You get extra attribute points depending on your performance during the year.
The offense and defense attributes come into play during a game by means of the "points of emphasis" during timeouts at the coaches' clipboard screens. If you have a high defense attribute, then the attribute boost that your players get when you select defense from "points of emphasis" will be higher.
Since you started at a school with a highly rated coach, you could have assigned all those attribute points to max out your coach. I never thought about purposely not using them, but I guess you could so you could build him up over time.

Lower it to at least 37 . . . that's what i lowered it to. Maybe I should go even lower . . . maybe not less than 30 though. The CPU still loves threes at 37, just not as much, but if they get a chance, they'll jack it up. I think I'll move it down to 32 or so next time.sportdan30 wrote:I lowered the Unity slider to 70 for both teams, but perhaps I'll lower it to 50 and see if that makes a difference. Thanks for your input and suggestions Warnerwlf. I really want to get this game to where it feels just right. While there are many upsets in college basketball, it just seemed really strange how I couldn't stop Northern Arizona whatsoever. I didn't save last night's games, so I think I'm going to go back and max out the attributes for the coach. Plus, maybe I'll mess around and play the Midnight Madness game I initially skipped.
I'm playing pretty much default settings with 6min quarters. I took Alabama last night....#15 was 14/19 from the 3pt line! He was hitting everything. I don't know who the guy is for real but that dude was pretty much nailing every shot he took. This is a fantastic game though....I love it.

6 min. quarters? You know there are just halves right?tjung0831 wrote:I'm playing pretty much default settings with 6min quarters. I took Alabama last night....#15 was 14/19 from the 3pt line! 14/19 in a 12 min. game is just slightly unrealistic.
Yeah...you know I meant halves. I quit playing games for the realism factor when I hit 35 or so. I understand that it's only a video game and it will never be a real simulation. I play for fun factor, so I could care less if he would have even went 20/20 from the three point line. I don't care about realistic stats at all anymore, I don't have time for that.dbdynsty25 wrote:6 min. quarters? Any of you actually get the game yet? I ordered Sunday night and it still hasn't shipped.Zeppo wrote:Hey it's a party! I went this route too. Got to love 2nd day shipping and STILL saving $20 over the retail price.grtwhtsk wrote:Got the deal as well.SoMisss2000 wrote:FYI, if you don't have this game yet, you can save $20 at buy.com if you use google checkout. I got the game for $36 but upgraded to the 2 day shipping, ended up $40. I had no plans to buy this game but for that price, it was a no brainer. On my way out to grab Rainbow 6.
UPS shows it's delivered, so I'll be able to pick it up from my shipping place this afternoon. I'm sure the T-giving holiday slowed things a bit, but I was surprised it took a couple of days for Buy.com to process my order before shipping it. 2-Day shipping from Buy.com seems to be more like 4 or 5-Day shipping, with their 2-Day processing! Still, the price was nice.
I guess I can expect mine on Sunday then.Zeppo wrote:UPS shows it's delivered, so I'll be able to pick it up from my shipping place this afternoon. I ordered College Hoops last Friday and Smackdown vs Raw on Saturday from buy.com and received both of them today which ends up being 4 business days for shipping from California which isn't too bad. I have 9 days in a row off from work starting this Saturday too.

I ordered on Sunday meaning both our orders should have started on the next business day (Monday). I'm just getting screwed.vader29 wrote:I ordered College Hoops last Friday and Smackdown vs Raw on Saturday from buy.com and received both of them today which ends up being 4 business days for shipping from California which isn't too bad. Squidward, I ordered Black Friday afternoon. It didn't ship until Tuesday, I got it yesterday. I paid for the 2 day shipping and on the faq it says two days after the order is shipped. So it all depends on when they feel like shipping the product which is bullshit!fsquid wrote:I ordered on Sunday meaning both our orders should have started on the next business day (Monday). I've noticed that with 2k sports - EA has copies of their games all over the place, but when a 2k sports game comes out, they are scarce.Diablo25 wrote:I'll be picking this up on Saturday if I can find it. Everywhere I have been has been out of the game and only had like a copy or two to start with.
Just rented this game and it feels alot like the xbox version, which I guess is a good thing. Graphically, I am not as impressed as i was with EA's games on 360. But gameplay wise, I am really starting to like it.
Only problem is the 2k online interface. It's very ugly and confusing to use when you first start.

A few random ramblings:
I've been enjoying this game enormously the few times I've played, online and off. Gameplay is very fun, and for the most part I feel in control of the outcome. It must be said, however, that the faults go far beyond the crappy online interface. This is clearly a last-gen game at its base, ported over to the 360. Everything from the online sign-in to the feedback at the end of the end of the online game bears this out, and it's time 2K got with the modern times. I think the graphics are pretty poor for the 360 as well, considerably worse than the NBA game, which aren't all that good on 360 themselves. They're not terrible, but they are very lacking in comparison to the other games out there.
I am enjoying the game, but 2K has to get with the program, and start making games for the next gen. It seems they add clutter and extra steps to normal functions, because of the fact it's ported over from last-gen. How many separate files am I supposed to save? Can I save my camera setting? How do I save my gameplay sliders or audio settings? Is there any way? The sliders seem to stick, but I'm never sure, because I don't save them and there's no appropriate file to load.
Speaking of audio settings, the mix in this game is atrocious out of the box, not to mention way, way too loud, and the controls to adjust the mix are about as clumsy as you can get. Sure, they have sliders there, but there's no feedback while you adjust them. You have to make a tweak, then go back into gameplay to hear what if any difference that tweak made. Very clumsy. I spent over a half hour the other night trying to get the sound mix to sound decent while playing tunes, and it was a major struggle. And then, there are a few sounds that apparently are not adjusted by any sliders, like the 'whoosh' of the graphic overlays, and so on. Very second rate, very 2K. The very least they could do for this game is give some kind of 'beep' or something when you adjust an audio slider, to give you a clue about what you are doing to those sliders. And more, it seems certain game modes have their own audio settings, so suddenly I am blasting holes through the walls with the hyper loud sounds. All games on 360 need to have a master volume control, so that you can adjust the total game sound to mix with your tunes or your voice chat easily by adjusting one setting.
It's nice that there are replays online after the game, as opposed to the still shots we get in the NBA game online, but I still don't get why free throws, whether full motion or in stills, are acceptable highlights. And why do they talk about one player, and show his numbers, while showing a different player for the other team in the highlights?
Why is there no halftime? The buzzer goes off, they say 'here we are at halftime' and then, we're right back in it! No time for any adjustments at all, no look at the stats; at least they sub in the starters, but I mean, come on. One accidental A-button press should never be enough to eliminate halftime completely. And shouldn't I at least have the time out menu?
The gameplay is really fun, though. I think I am starting to understand why some people just can't get past certain problems in Madden while I can. There are many things endemic to the 2K basketball engine, or maybe to all basketball games, that just drive me bonkers, but that other people, I guess, can get past, much as I can get past the many problems in Madden and enjoy it thoroughly even though I am very well aware of the problems.
Oh yeah - a huge difference for me between this game and the NBA game is that I have the manual for this one (NBA is GameFly), and so could read what the controls are! It's still too much of a combo-type setup for me for the most part, but now that I have a clue what combinations should do what, or will work at all, or better yet, what the R-stick is meant to do when near the basket, all that has made the game much more fun for me.

What's up with the lack of continuation to the basket on the blocks? Unless you're physically dunking the ball, it's side out of bounds. No matter how close you were to the basket or how far into your shot you are when the block occurs. Also, it seems that 98 percent of what should be called a "charge" gets called the other way.
