I won't be on tonight, long draining day today so I'm hittin the hay in a few. I hung around for a while last night, but nobody showed so I did a couple solo missions then logged.
I do have a new soldier mech, the DSP Mark 1, that I'd like to give a go next time I'm on, provided we have someone else handling the heavy gunner duties.
I also promised my daughter I'd use the paintjob she did the next time I play. So I hope you guys don't mind a giant pink mech running around! (Hey, think of it like Operarion Petticoat!)

I'm a little worried about the drops we had tonight, though, as that was the worst I've yet seen it. And it's too bad we couldn't get some squad action vs humans in tonight, but yeah, I enjoyed that AI mission as well.
We must have just missed you, Mix, by literally under 2 minutes.
Terry, sorry to hear about the box.

So how'd you guys do after I logged last night?
I thought those 2 dudes we battled in my last game had a decent strategy, considering they were up against 6 of us. They tried to grab as many com towers as they could, knowing they couldn't beat us in a straight up fight. They still lost, but gave it the old college try!

This is from the Chromehounds forum, a post by the developers:
"There will be a temporary server maintenance after the next peace accord to address some of the balance issues within the Chromehounds servers. During the maintenance, the servers will be updated with the following changes:
• Balancing battlefield endurance properties
• Adjusting occurrence of special events
These changes will be live in the next war. Thanks for your patience during this maintenance period."
A lot of folk have been complaining about how the wars are lasting 8 -12 hours, so it looks like they will be tweaking it a bit. I agree that a little something needs to be done, not because our country is the whipping boy, but because of the speed that the wars end. I hope the battlefield endurance fix means it will be harder to actually take control of a battlefield. I like the idea, being a fan of WW2 Online it's very cool to see how the war takes shape over the course of weeks, and being able to work in a specific area for a while gives a bit of an emotional kick to the game I think. I remember once in WW2 Online there was fighting over these 3 towns for days, going back and forth. When the Germans finally called off the attack of the area you felt a sense of accomplishment (yeah, I know it's just a game but still...) It would be nice to have that same feeling with Chromehounds, instead of constantly having a brand new map every time you log in.

I got on late and only played for a while, but people were getting dumped all over the place yesterday.
I don't know if this is mostly a server or a human error. (In the latter case I mean humans dropping or trying to host games too big for their connections) It was nice to see a big squad on, but I don't think the guys ever got in a game vs humans.
After everyone else left, I did play in some fun free battles. In a 5 on 5 match I really got to see smoke used well! When the big Hounds got together to rumble at short to medium range, two scout mechs went nuts with the smoke mortars. I couldn't see anything, as the build I was using didn't happen to have a thermal sensor. Those who did switched over to them, and absolutely carved up those that did not.
It was a cool tactic in use, for sure.
The point system needs to be changed on the War for sure. Points you get vs the AI need to go way down, and the scale for human vs human battles needs to be weighted more heavily towards the large squad fights. Froom what I understand, if a squad wins 6 one on one matches they do far more good for the nation than if they do one 6 on 6 match. So the people mostly affecting the war's outcome are squads dedicated to doing solo matches against the AI or other players. The game is meant to be played in squads, and the scoring should reinforce that.
Reading the official forums, though, it is obvious that some people just don't get it. Most of their complaints are based off of this one vs one mentality. I read a post this morning that stated if you didn't have missiles on your hound, you lose. Yes, missiles are very effective....within a range of about 200! Engage that Hound as a soldier at 400, or as a sniper at even greater than that. Have the heavy gunner pelt it, for chrissakes.
I hope they actually tell us what the War changes are.

I've done it... And I found it kind of hard to ignore the other(s) mech and fight just the one you're supposed to.webdanzer wrote:Those boards have some useful information crammed in among all of the whining!
By the way, has anyone else gotten to the 'Final Mission' in the single player game? I like it quite a bit, and I like the little twist it gives the otherwise so-so stories presented throughout the role type missions.
I don't know if everybody realizes that they actually get parts for Ss in each of the offline missions.
At least they tried to put a little story in the "tutorial" .:0
Built a new HG yesterday, named it the Crab, because it's very good at quickly moving side to side on it's 4 legs to avoid incoming fire, while still being pretty stable and maintaining a consistant distance to its target.
Of course, the extra expensive shell I put in it don't hurt either. Big-time splash damage from them. $1100 a shot is pricey, but worth it if you like big explosions!

I cannot get a handle on the defender for the life of me. I can't even beat the 3rd mission in the Story mode. Is there a trick to using the rocket salvos, or is it pretty much just an experience thing? I get blown up...I mean, actually BLOWN UP. I haven't had that happen in any RT except the defender so far.
Any tips for a rookie?

Is that the one where they are attacking from opposite sides of the city? If so, yeah, I had to try that one a couple of times before completing it. You have to move *fast* for that mission.
As far as using rockets go, aim low and target groups! I've taken out three of those little walker dudes with one rocket barrage before.
There's going to be a server update tonight/tomorrow. Fingers crossed, they fix some of those connection issues.

My tip is: Don't get blown up!
Actually, I haven't done any of the commander or defender missions offline yet. Hell, I haven't even finished the ones I started, I keep ending up online building more mechs. I must have 8 different versions of a heavy gunner saved.

It's nice to see that the war lasts longer now, even though our country has disappeared again. I did end up getting a medal when our capital was briefly recaptured. Check out the troop strength of the countries though; Tarakia 91K, Morskoj 87K, and good ol' Sar Kar at 25K. Makes it tough to compete against those numbers. I'm all for having the freedom to move from country to country (we are mercenary units after all), but perhaps some type of balancing with the rewards could be put in place. Sort of like "sorry but Tarakia does not have the monetary resources to support any more squads, so from now on all payments will be half" or something like that. Give a little incentive for mercs to try a different country. At this point, the only reason to go to another country is if your sick of getting your Sal Karian ass kicked.
