I really don't know how much the silver and gold stars affect the skills, I've got 34 stars so far after playing through Wimbledon in my second season and I am going to start skipping tourneys and do a lot more of the training after I play in the US Open tournament.
Has anyone seen a Let in this game? I haven't had one yet or seen the computer do any either, no big deal but just found it odd that I haven't seen one.

I prefer the far default camera angle as supposed to the zoom. I find that I am a step behind in reading the opponents shots on that camera angle although it's quite playable. During carrer mode I prefer to play all of my matches as supposed to having the CPU do a SIM in accordance to my skills. Who's letting the CPU do the SIM and what kind of results are you getting?
Risks shots are still impossible to execute for me as I hit them int the net regularly.

Got the game from Gamefly today. This game is nothing but gloried pong. Sure I'm playing some crap players but this game is no where near as fun as Virtua Tennis for the DC. The controls are sluggish which really bothers me on the 360. I personally don't like the way they design the different shots.
All in all, I'm glad I rented this game. It just isn't fun for me.

I only sim after the first set, and only if I spanked the computer player and have a full momentum bar. Usually, only first round opponents too, but I just simmed the 2nd set of a 2nd Rd opponent at one of the masters tournaments (the one after Wimbledon). He was ranked higher than me, but I took the 1st set 3-1 and had all of the momentum. The wife was calling me to the garage to leave for dinner, so I just said hell with it and simmed the 2nd set. It gave me the set 3-0 and the match, and I was able to save before seeing Blake in the final.10spro wrote:Who's letting the CPU do the SIM and what kind of results are you getting?

Final won a grand slam, as the #12 seed.
Season 2, US Open. I had 44 stars (out of 60) but only a few of them are silver (no gold). After winning, it gave me 10 silvers, and 7 golds to upgrade my existing 44 stars, sweet. What was odd that my toughest matches were in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Not the semi's and final, which I got through easily. I also lucked out by having Roddick, Hewitt, etc on the other side of the bracket.
Here was my road to the final:
1st Rd - Some noname scrub (#34)
120
343
2nd Rd - Brendan Evans (#10)
1320
3443
Qtr Final - Tim Henman (#9)
330
443
Semi Final - Blake (#7)
011
333
Final - Moya (#6)
101
333
I'm getting really frustrated with these training things now. I'm failing them more often than not, and only getting one bronze star each time.

I didn't sim any of the matches at the US Open. The opponents are too good (compared to my star ratings) to get gimmie games like that. I did it alot in my 1st season, for those minor and major tournaments, but my 2nd season (playing only Slams and Masters), I haven't simmed much at all (only the occasional final set for a 1st round blowout).10spro wrote:Congrats Jon. Now, how many matches did you win yourself and how many did you SIM. I was on a roll on my 4th tournament and I wanted to speed up things when the SIM didn't cooperate. It's frustrating to start all over again when you run out of cash.
I've read of several people running out of cash, or having issues with that. Not sure how you guys are doing that, I've never come close, even in the 1st season. Did you buy a bunch of clothes or something? Maybe I played (and won) more of those early/easy tournaments in Season 1 and built up my wallet that I way, I dunno. I was over a million coins before the US Open in Season 2. After winning it, I haven't checked. Since my earlier posting, I played the last masters tournament of the year (in Paris, I forget the name, but not the Top 8 one). I beat Roddick in the final, I was really pumped, it got my rating up to #4. I won 4-3, 1-3, 4-3. It was a real nailbiter. This game is getting more fun as it goes along, I'm loving career mode.

Yeah, the career mode is what makes this game so great. Late last night I tried my built up player who's only at around 25 stars or so and picked to play a ranked match online. I don't know if it's because there was no one else around at that level late at night but it gave me a monster opponent who had his stars around the 50's, all the brand name clothing and sunglasses that you can get. It was no competition. The other guy was just that much quicker and stronger than my player.
I'm in my third season ranked #5 with my player only needing 8 more gold stars and I just played in the Paris International Championship and beat Hewitt in the quarter finals 4-3, 4-3, 4-2 then got destroyed by Federer in the semi final game 3-1, 3-1, 4-3. Looks like it is going to be tough to beat Federer in this game with your created player.
I've accumulated almost 10 million coins so far, there was a match in the third season where a billionaire offered up 5 million to the winner of a match.

Game is suprisingly quite good. I played a fairly early version of the game a while back and it came quite a distance in the final dev cycle. It was awful back then but it shaped up pretty well. Feels very simish but in a good way. Very different than Virtua Tennis so it's even better there are both of them on the market. I think some people might end up unfortunately passing by a very quality title.

Wow, I haven't been able to stop playing this game. Just picked it up on Friday and am now starting year two of my career.
Ended year one ranked 25 but I can tell my character is way down on stars compared to the other players. But I finished an Aussie Open match against James Blake and beat him in straight sets, two by tiebreaker. I was very pumped when I managed to take the first set and at times jumped from my seat a bit after taking a big point at various stages of the match.
Just a hell of a fun game that seems to have really good AI. It has been fun to see me blitz a character early only to see them adjust to my tactics and send me scrambling for a new strategy. So far my only complaint about the AI is the first serve percentage--don't see too many issues...Blake finished the three set match without a single fault.
As a week-long owner of the 360, a game like this goes a long way. Now I just hope Madden can be as fun as TS2.

Yes we definitely need to do another tournament, either a Ladies or I would love to do a maxed out created players tourney if enough people have maxed out their players.

Since my character is nowhere near maxed out (and probably won't be soon), I'd be more interested in a women's tournament.
Had another great match in the Aussie Open and this time the CPU player had a 1st serve % around 80% and even had a double fault or two. Moving on to the semis!
