I think you guys will be surprised at how many people DON'T buy an iPhone when it's released on Verizon (if ever). The reason is because the iPhone has been out for three years already (almost 4) and everyone who wanted one pretty much has one. Everyone's contract has been up multiple times already and if they wanted an iPhone they'd probably already have made the switch. Sure, it'll still sell for the guys/gals that are Verizon hardcores...and those on family plans and whatnot, but it's not gonna sell like it does on At&t...not even close. Plus, Verizon devotees in need of a touch phone have obviously taken to the Android bandwagon since the Droid alone has been selling pretty well overall.
I just think an iPhone on Verizon will be a blip in overall iPhone sales. It'll still be the best selling phone ever, but it won't be because of Verizon. Verizon made that mistake 4 years ago.
They won't announce VErizon iPhone when they unveil the 4G because they probably want all those AT&T customers to re-up on AT&T.
Then they'll drop it on Verizon. And actually the story is that manufacturing will start in September, which could mean they will have it before Christmas or next year.
Certainly looks a lot cooler than the ultra feminine current version. And I bet it comes OUT on June 22nd...not just announced. Isn't At&t blocking all vacations in June, whereas previously they did July because that's when the latest version dropped?
Ok can someone smarter then myself explain what happened today.
I know the iPhone 4 features what I don't understand is where is the Verizon announcement?
Also what is this "generous offer" At&T is supposedly providing. All i get out of reading the articles is I can buy a new iPhone on release day from AT&T and keep my current contract if I extend it 2 more years. What's generous about that?
Seems to me Apple and AT&T made a deal to keep people on AT&T and then in a month or two they will announce the Verizon version which will be 4G.
I know some of you are more in tune with the facts, I detest AT&T but if there really was an offer I would consider it but I don't see what the offer is.

I doubt Verizon will release one until the end of the year at the earliest...on their 4G network, LTE. The reason AT&T is offering to let current customers upgrade is that they don't want everyone jumping ship when it eventually does come out on Verizon in the next year. Normally you can't upgrade until your two year contract is up...they are doing it now for anyone with a current iPhone to upgrade to version 4. It's generous for the consumer but it's mostly to keep people from bailing when a far far superior network gets it. I predict Thanksgiving at the very earliest, summer for 2011 most likely.
But then again, if Verizon keeps killing it with ridiculously high end Android phones, they may not even bother.
Thing is… I can upgrade, but I’m not eligible for an upgrade until May 2011, so I have to pay $200.00 more, no matter which model I choose. Better than buying one and not being an AT&T costumer, but I want the 32GB for $299.00, not $499.00. Because I’m not eligible until May 2011, I may skip the new iPhone.
I'm with you Dookie. I'm going to wait and hopefully by the time next year comes around, Verizon will have the phone. I'm sure we'll see some news by Xmas on this front.
Well, I got my iPhone 4 today and wow, what a device. I am very impressed with it. Upgraded from my 3G so I am comparing it to that. The Retina Display is sick...sick. Love the camera upgrade and HD video recording. Superfast. Multi-tasking is done well and I love what Apple has done with OS4. The whole package oozes top notch. Hugely satisfied with this beast.
Does yours have a yellow spot in the bottom right corner, and does the reception completely drop out when you hold both sides of the phone? Yikes...lots of issues floating around already.

Does anyone know how easy it would be to switch my wifes' number to my 3G once I get the 4?
Ummm...you take the sim card out of her current phone, call at&t and have them put her number on a smartphone plan...put the sim card in your old phone and Viola...you're done.
Glad to hear yours isn't jacked up Diablo...I'd be pissed. And of course they will say the bars are superficial...only problem is that when the phone switches to no service you can't do anything so that line is bullshit. It really is a problem...hopefully they square it away. You're gonna be happy you're not getting your phone till mid July scoop. Trust me.

I agree there is no way they would say, yeah, its screwed up, our bad. Engagdet is reporting when you hold some iPhones lefthanded the signal does drop. However, when you have the "Bumper" on the phone there are no issues.
One iPhone 4 demonstrated the issue everytime it was held in our left hand (as a right-handed person is apt to do) so that our palm was essentially bridging the two antennas. You can see that in the video after the break. Bridging the two with a finger tip, however, didn't cause any issues with the reported reception. If we had to guess, we'd say that our conductive skin was acting to detune the antenna -- in fact, we've already managed to slowly kill two calls that way so it's not just an issue with the software erroneously reporting an incorrect signal strength. That said, we had no issues when Apple's $29 rubber bumper accessory (given to us free for standing in line) was attached, creating a buffer between our palm and the antennas.
Update: I am having some bars drop when I hold it left-handed. Nuts! It goes from like 5 bars down to 3 and 2 intermittently. When I tried it yesterday I held the phone near the top and had no issue but today when I held it with my hand covering the lower left portion, where the antennas meet, I had some drop off. It never dropped below 2 bars but there is a definite reaction. I'm glad to hear the bumper nullifies it because I have one on the way but this is still an issue...and it looks like a hardware issue not a software issue.
At least I'm not having the display issue (knock on wood) which seems far less prevalent.
It really is F'n amazing that holding a phone could get past the testing phase by one of the biggest companies in the world. And it ain't like the At&t coverage is outstanding in the first place, holy crap. Someone is getting fired.

I experience no loss in bars nor do I have any issues when talking to somebody on the phone.
The only thing I've noticed with mine is the home button is ever so slightly loose. It seems to wiggle around just a little bit.
I'm pretty sure its not going to be every phone, or else they definitely would have caught it prior to launch. And yes, JRod, good call. Just give it a couple weeks, place your order, get it at the end of July and everything will be fixed.

Thanks. Sorry if it was a dumb question but phones are the one section of technology where I'm behind the times. Before getting the iphone 2 years ago I really didn't study up on phones.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.
