Well John, that may be the most impressive round we've had. Excellent job.

No doubt the challenge goes way up with the Y zoom turned off. I'm still on the fence. If you are going to kill us like that, then maybe not :D

I would like to try at least 1 or 2 more like that and see what the consensus is.

I basically couldn’t putt all round so my score was a little high for no reason!

One of the things I like about the game is the ability to play a round in 20-30 minutes. Get to the tee, hit Y, pick a spot, swing, mash the fast forward button, do it again. The fun for me is chasing the leaderboard, not trying to replicate the real game. I play a couple times a month in real life so... yeah, I like playing "arcade" style golf when I've got a controller in my hand. I know I'm in the minority here.

That said, I'm all for trying it!!

First John that is an incredible score with no helping aids. I put 2 in the water on 5 and three putted so that was my entire score on that hole. Also having played that course in real life that is an incredible replication but even with that it doesn't express what a thrill it is to play.

Now that said the way we played tonight was even tougher then I play offline. Here is what I do I leave scout camera on but turn off the aiming recticle. Perhaps that is not an option in setting up tournaments but it still lets you scout camera the green but you can't aim. You can still use the putting camera as well. It would be a middle ground to what we did tonight. I liken it to using a range finder without the distances. If it is possible to set it up that way and give it a try I would vote for that.

The way we played tonight makes it more challenging and realistic but it also felt like I had less information then when I play for real. For example a blind shot I can look through my range finder or ride up the fairway and take a peak. I can walk around the green and examine the breaks.

I don't want to diminish anyone's fun but I would love to try one round like I described if possible

Okay, we've got a couple of things here to deal with... first and foremost, we've suddenly hit our 55 event limit, as a level 10 Society. I tried to set a tournament for tomorrow, but can't because we've hit the limit, but that limit includes the 72 hole tournament that Vader has already set for this week. We're given the option to upgrade to a level 11 Society to boost our event limit, but as an assistant Admin, I don't see an option for me to do that. Hopefully Vader's got it.

I donated 35,000 VC because I know it's going to cost to boost our Society level to level 11, I just don't know how much. Again, hopefully Vader has access to this. If we're going to be stuck at a level 10 Society, we won't be able to have a Tuesday and Wednesday 18 holer this week, but we will finish out this "Season" with this week's already scheduled 72 holer.

Dan, I've had the aiming reticule off from day one in each version of TGC. I find it to be an eyesore, to be honest. I haven't even looked to see if there's an option to turn it off for tournaments, but I'll check the next time I go in there.

My score in today's event was an aberration. I made every putt I looked at except for one hole. I actually took 4 strokes to get down from 3 feet off the green and 38 feet away. I missed a 3 and a 7 foot putt along the way. I almost rage quit as I dropped from -3 to -1, but then I birdied the next three holes, two of which were with putts of 30 feet +.

Well see what Vader can come up with on extended our current season by going to level 11, although it might require members pony up a little more virtual cash. I'll see about turning the reticule off, along with the scout cam. I'd like to see what I can do in three consecutive tournaments without scout cam. I can't speak to aiming reticule since I've only played with it briefly in the original TGC. Never even tried it in 2 and 2019.

Joz, don't base any expectations on what today's round showed. As I told Dan in my reply to him, it was an aberration due to my sick putting that round. I also know that course well enough now from playing it over the years to know where to aim, without a lot of help.

I am currently out of town, so I won’t be able to play anything until at least Wednesday with the new lack of aids feature. With the current funk state I have been in for the past month or so, I don’t think it’ll really matter personally speaking. But it’s always good to try new things, new challenges.

Also on long putts, I had little issues with lags, and whenever they are present, I just stop and reset.

My only issue is my 12 pounder Shihtzu that’s just jumps on my lap at the most inopportune time.

Thanks to John and Vader for setting up the events, look forward to the next level and once I get back, I don’t have a problem contributing towards the DSP society.

Quick question for those with the Elite controller. I understand there’s three different sticks and different modes to set your controller. Which one works for this game, and which one do you use for shooters.

I play primarily sports games, some racers, and shooters. I think I should be getting a new controller, my sticks are just too loosy goosey from too much hockey and fast action shooters like COD.

Jon,

I'll try and grab a video of my setup and how it works. I would imagine most people have the aiming marker on which means they can hit Y for scout camera and the camera goes to the carry distance of the club and then they can precisely aim where they want to hit too.

Your set up is more like mine I believe, with the aiming marker off and scout cam on. When I hit Y the camera just flies to the center of the green and I can't aim or move it at all. It makes aiming your shot a bit more challenging then with the aim marker on and with the ability to still use scout cam you do get a quick look at the hole while the camera flies to the green.

I guess a video will make more sense so I will capture one.

Yeah not being able to scout the hole doesn't work for me...went through a hole and quit. Just not fun when you can't even do something you'd be able to do in real life...

True but you also in real life can't take a targeting marker and put it exactly where you want it. You're picking a spot in the distance to hit to, the aiming marker is the big culprit in the unrealistically low scores IMO because there is no guess work. Remove that, leave the scout cam and I think we maybe get more believable scores. Of course John shot a -10 with no aids at all yesterday so who knows.

Good Lord, I had no idea that was considered a cheat, but I get it. I am shooting +30 for rounds even when using the "Y", so I can't imagine what I would shoot without it. :) All the tutorials I have found start with that as part of the shot making process. Since I am never competing, don't base anything on my comments.

I don't need the little circle, I just need to be able to see the hole without just seeing the overhead view. I want the little zoom camera that moves up the fairway. Then I can aim accordingly.

I personally think they should give you some sort of "focus" view (a zoom in from your perspective), and a hand-held hole map like you'd have at a real course. I'd love it if they had that, as I'm sure they have the yardage markers and whatnot out there that I've never seen/used.

If you had a map you could pull up, as well as ONLY a minimal zoom/focus feature from your golfer's perspective, that'd be fantastic.

There is a map, just hit the B key next time before your shot. It shows your location and then yardages to bunkers etc, like an actual yardage book.

What DB describes is exactly what i get when I play with Scout camera on and aim marker off. Try it DB for a few holes and see if that is what you mean. You need to change your setting outside of a round to get it to work.

Right, I mean limiting everything to that. Focus a bit, hit the map, only have those things available, not having it specific to whatever user settings there are.

It's not considered a cheat, but some find it to be more information than they'd like to have at their disposal. Most use it and it's not frowned upon by most. Those who are opposed to it have no-aids Societies they can join that take all shot making and aiming assistance off the plate. I played in one, but I finally admitted I'm too lazy and too impatient to go to the trouble necessary to get a good green read without grids, and quit.

I'm not a huge fan of it, but I can tolerate it. I don't think it would be a popular option here in the long run.

Is it possible to set up an event in this manner? Or is the only option to turn it all off like Mondays event?

We had to start a new season today since we'd hit our event limit of 55. I wasn't able to get a Daily round set yesterday, but we've got one today to kick of the new season. Vader has set the PGA Tour 72 hole events for this weekend and next. We're still playing TPC Sawgrass as he'd originally to stay in sync with the PGA Tour, where possible.

In that case I would vote just go back to the way we had it wihtout shot preview, not that anyone was using it.

I played the first 2 rounds. Not too bad (for me)! Had a couple of dumb shots and a few where I just couldn't save myself.
