I am absolutely loving the next gen version gameplay with the latest tuner, 10 minute periods, All-Star Hardcore, and penalties max. Of course, the next update/tuner will probably mess everything up. :D Offense is just about perfect, although it is still a little too easy to bring it out of your own end. I score in just about every way possible...some dirty goals, shots from the point, wristers, odd man rushes, occasional breakaway, etc. Now that I've improved on defense and learned not to chase the puck all the time the computer is scoring in different ways as well. It's a ton of fun.
Agreed! I'm like 3-4-2 so far, but every game is different and I'm not sure I see the same goal twice. I did turn down hitting power from +2 to +1 and might even go to 0 as I hate skating into the CPU zone with someone like Backes and get knocked to the ice everytime, losing the puck.

I believe I resolved that by turning down CPU aggression

I might give that a look, although I do like how the aggressiveness gives that sloppy, hockey like feeling. It also limits the ice space. Turning down hitting power has already made a difference as I didn't always fall on my butt last game. I'll give it a few more games.. but so far, that's the only thing needing tweaking from initial AS/Hardcore defaults with penalties turned to max.

Had 7 total penalties my last game.. Anaheim took 2 penalties in OT which led to a 5 on 3 and a game winning goal by Petro!

Do you touch goalie cover? On default I find the goalie throws the pupuck out in traffic too often.

I think the goalie cover always needs to be increased. From playing online, it is pretty clear a ton of guys never want face-offs. If you increase it, you will get more faceoffs, and more realistic play. I hold on to the puck because it I a good time to get my third line in and keep the top two lines fresh.

I just think EA defaults to less cover-UPS to keep the game going for the kiddies.

I keep going back and forth as to last gen...I am anxious to see if my boys are back on the ice at some point soon.

Johnny for RamJag yeah! So true about the frustrating, dumb AI on your teammates while playing HUT. I've never seen so many stupid offsides as you're clearing the blue line and here's my other pet peeve that he doesn't mention in the video. Once you win a faceoff, the D seems to go for a stroll instead of controlling the puck. So while you actually win a faceoff it doesn't mean much because almost always the opponent will get that puck that you fought so hard for.

I've lost several games on HUT due to the stupidity decisions from the AI, but thankfully I have doubled my wins as well as some of those W's came at the expense of also dumb teammates decisions that the player I am facing online has no control of.

This Superbman dude should seriously be contacted by EA, great review.

Much of being good at this game online is learning how to mitigate bad AI, which is sad.

And I was reminded of some of those Dragon nights when I was facing a bunch of douchebags in OTP, you know the same losers that still think shooting after an offside call is cool. Can't Do that!

This guy nailed it. The AI situation he talked about is spot on. I get so pissed when I'm carrying the puck into the zone in a HUT game and my wingers go offsides - inexcusable. I loved that he called out EA on HUT. It's NOT the best/most popular mode in NHL yet it their #1 priority. As XXXIV would say, c@nts

I have been a big critic of the AI in NHL for years. While it is correct to say how bad it is, do you guys feel it is worse this year? I'm not sure I would say it's significantly better or worse than years past.

Not significant, perhaps Johnny used the wrong term describing the AI in this year edition. Is not as stupid as previous years but it's surely damn LAZY. It's inexplicable how your players get caught offside continuously, yes it happens in the game but at this rate it makes me feel like asking EA to make a slider for offsides. Also no one wants the puck when your centreman wins a faceoff. Last night I had a two on one chance breakaway as the other dude was caught spamming the RB button. I was purposely gliding into his zone, a slow motion glide yet my teammate still got caught offside.

People get critical since they didn't see this glitches from 14 and then on a brand new spanking machine where things are supposed to get better, well they don't.

I haven't played in a few weeks, loaded up the 11/7 roster and actually had a fun play now game on AS/Hardcore defaults. Do play now games play differently than BeaGM or did the new roster tweak a few things? or will I play a few more games and want to throw my controller again? :)

One thing this game really has going for it vs last gen is the puck physics and of course the game is beautiful.

I've run into those off sides calls, but I've figured A) they almost always happen when I get a little too fancy or have to get around a defensemen, and B) it seems like the number f offsides calls I get feels pretty much like he number i see during a real game. At the very least in increases the number of faceoffs.

I'm usually dubious about the companies of teammate AI because no one mentions the same things about the the CPU AI.

Mizz, in years past i definitely found play now games different there is none of the fake momentum or slump BS going on its just the game in its purist form. Its a shame the season modes all have the artificial s*** in there, kills it.
