I would agree. I'm not saying it's the best sports game of all time but it is my favorite sports game of all time. It's got that perfect blend of fun and realism. I do have a feeling that NHL 10 will knock it to my second favorite sports game of all time though. Either way it's a hell of a game.Leebo33 wrote:This is my favorite sports game of all time. Im not sure about greatest ever yet ...but...Im close...Its definately a winner!
Reason #46 I love this game....It has jagoff refs.
This sweet Jackson burst thru the middle of the Texans D was called back on a bullshit holding call...SoaB!

Just kidding. Its been a long time since I have enjoyed a Madden game, and I had no intention of picking up 10, but after looking into it and hearing some great stuff I plan on grabbing it this weekend. I'm looking forward to it.
I was all happy and content playing The Show on my PSP, until I started reading your guys impressions and I picked this up yesterday.
I played a half of Dolphins/Packers last night and a half of Cowboys vs eagles today. Both games were fun and I like the accelerated clock as it kept the pace of the game moving.
I was passing pretty effectively with pennington, but when i played as the Eagles today, McNabb couldn't hit a damn thing. In fact he was 0 for the 1st quearter.
Definitely has me wanting to go back and play more...only wish they had in game saves!!!

I played a lot last night, but did not see it. This is on PS3.eman wrote:Tonight I played a game and noticed this annoying MTV ad plastered on the screen. It actually kept me from seeing certain stats in game.
Anyone else notice this? Tonight is the first time I've seen it. I tried googling but came up empty.
I am playing 13 minute quarters with the 20 second run off, but I use "Ask Madden" a lot. I may go back to 14 minute quarters. Games last about 50-60 minutes but are so good if feels like 5 minutes!
Here are some of the reasons why I love the game:
- the sliders work! The good thing is that you really don't need that many adjustments IMO. The great thing is that it allows me to setup a skill level that fits me perfectly. And it didn't take me long to tweak at all because it was apparent early what I needed to adjust (CPU running, interceptions, and pass rush).
- Once I toned the interceptions down and the fumbles up every single game result has been believable and the stat *averages* are spot on. There is great variety, but everything averages out to where it should. Yesterday I played three straight Redskins at NYG and they were totally different. I had a defensive struggle, a game that was 24-17 at the half and then leveled out, and a 28-24 game in the middle. I played a STL/SEA game that was a turnover fest with 7 picks and a couple fumbles then played two games late last night (HST/JAX and KC/DEN) with a total of 4 turnovers).
- I'm 41 years old and the slow speed fits me PERFECTLY. But the great thing is that there isn't *too much* time. Everything is just right for me. I have time to pass and read a defense, but it's not too much to allow me to pick apart defenses unrealistically. I have time to find running running lanes, but I have to make the decisions quickly. I have time to get down field on a punt return and make a tackle or down a punt but the CPU is also a threat if I make a mistake especially if it is someone like Hester. I have time to react to make a play on defense but if I don't make the decision or take a bad angle then a good player can toast me.
- ratings and team strengths/weaknesses matter more in this version than any other. I can take my #1 ranked Steeler rush defense and keep everyone under 100 yards but when I played ATL using TB I almost gave Turner the rushing record. I had trouble running using Seattle but could find some success in the air. I know who my good players all and I have to utilize them correctly or I will lose.
- love the gang tackling and broken tackles finally look realistic
- there seems to be built in momentum and composure but it isn't a gimmick and I like it behind the scenes. I rattled Chris Simms, subbing for an injured starter, with a blind side blast and his next pass with no direct pressure was 10 feet over a guys head on a sideline pattern. A few plays later he threw a pass *at a receiver's feet* and it wasn't one of those ducks that occur while getting hit. He just threw a ten yard pass in the middle of the field. But later in the game he got back in rhythm and ended up decent. I never truly rattled Eli Manning in those three games I mentioned earlier but he do go through realistic ebbs and flows.
- there is variety even in individual plays. I had a screen pass perfectly setup and threw it over the RB's head. Other times I have made something out of nothing.
Every game for me has been fun, realistic, and I am controlling the outcome but that success or failure is heavily influenced by the player ratings. The game looks fantastic and the sounds outside of the announcing are good. The presentation is good to very good. What more can you ask for? I love it.

I've been playing 8-9 minute quarters without the accel clock. I like making adjustments at the line, and the accellerated clock didn't leave me time to do any of that.
This is the new NFL 2k5 for me. Every game is alittel different, and I keep wanting to play more. For some reason it just feels like the game 2k sports would have had right now.

I have interceptions at 15 for both CPU and user. The down side is that you have to live with dropped picks but usually if I earn a pick I'll get it and if I force a ball into coverage there is still a good chance of an interception. I can still see games with 4-5 picks but some might have 1 combined.Dave wrote:Leebo, what did you adjust to reduce INTs? I've had too many pick-fests in my franchise after not having too many in random exhibition games.
I was less than enthused with the demo, but picked this game up on release day anyhow. I agree that this game is the best Madden ever. In fact, no other Madden comes close. I am getting pretty realistic stats in most areas on All-Pro. The AI has come a long way. I still wish the controls were a little more responsive in terms of user input having a bit more impact on the outcome of plays. However, what is there is still very good and makes the game fun to play. Hopefully the Madden team will build on 10 for next year's release, which could be really incredible. EA went two for two with their football games this year.

Let's hope so. I agree this is the best Madden ever, but with early sales numbers down across the board, I don't think there's any guarantee that the same team will even be making next year's game. Remember, it wasn't more than 6-8 months ago that EA/Tiburon suffered massive layoffs. Who knows what these new sales numbers will mean for the immediate future of this series.toonarmy wrote:Hopefully the Madden team will build on 10 for next year's release, which could be really incredible.

Anyone see defensive hot routes?
Or Pass Commit or Run Commit?
It's not a given that they will build on a version. They take out a lot of features for whatever reason. Then people complain and they bring such and such features back a couple of years later.
Or maybe they will be offered as DLC, like All-Madden ranked games this year.

Defensive hot routes are in just like they always have been.

I'm with the others who really like the game. What I like the best is that the game varies quite a bit from game to game. That keeps me wanting to come back to it. After having a few defensive-oriented games, I played a crazy game with the Bears against the Vikings where I lost 51-38. There were a ton of big plays, but they didn't feel cheap the way they often did in past Maddens. I just had to share two sequences in particular:
Second-quarter, here's a four-play sequence that resulted in 21 points. First, Adrian Peterson scores his second TD of more than 70 yards. He had three carries for 160 yards before I knocked him out of the game:
<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/3.2. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
I return the kickoff to the 32, and then Matt Forte pulls off his own big TD run. I like the stiff arm at the end:
<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/3.2. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
Then on the kickoff....
<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/3.2. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
After the crazy first half, things settle down. I have a lot better luck against the Vikes offense without facing Peterson. Finally, down 41-31 in the fourth, Favre does me a big favor.
<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/3.2. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
Except guess who returns the ensuing kickoff again?
<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/3.2. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
The game has definitely got its share of problems -- it's no Show, that's for sure -- but EA really made the game fun again, and I haven't had that from a football game since the XBox days.
