PFT is saying that the Jets should go after Shanahan. It does make sense since Cowher is out of the picture. I think he also has a good track record against Bellicheat.

They don't call him noodle arm for nothing.
Arm strength has what do to with winning the comeback player of the year award?
In Penny's case it did because his arm problems is what put him on the sideline. In fact I think this is the first year noodle arm played all 16 games.
Who are the Broncos going to find better than Shanny? Bowlen is an idiot. We went bad after we got rid of Alex Gibbs, he's the mastermind of our former running game.
And now who are they going to get. Cower? Please. Stupid move by the Broncos. We were 8-8 because of Shanahan not in spite of him.

I kind of agree on Shanahan, but he was .500 his last three seasons. All NFL coaches have a pretty limited shelf life, and even the good ones have to step down or get fired to get rejuvenated. It's probably the most difficult job in sports in terms of the amount of preparation, commitment, and stress.
He's probably too hot of a property to sit out for a season, but I think that would do him some good. He could then get the Cowboys job in 2010 after Wade Phillips gets fired next season.
Shanahan will no doubt be employed next year as a HC because he's a good HC. The problem is giving these guys too much responsibility and wearing too many hats. I'm glad to see the owners come to their senses and employ both a GM and HC to run the team where the GM wasn't picked because of the HC.
I still don't understand why these guys put in 16 hour 7 days a week schedules even during the off season.

Well even Fisher, Gruden, and some others have their jobs. It's cyclical and it all revolves around the QB. They finally have a franchise QB and a team similar to the Elway years on defense and no running game.
Many of these problems might have more to do with Shanny the GM not the coach. Either way, who are they going to get that's better, not Cowher. They could get Parcells but I don't think he would be good for the team. And he's not a long term solution. Seeing how the Broncos are 2-3 years away from being a top team in the NFL, Parcells wouldn't last that long.
I would venture to guess that few NFL coaches could have had an 8-8 season with the problems the Broncos had this year.

Good description of last years super bowl winner.
Thats why you get paid the big money.
Its easy to be a football snob...but last years Giants, the 99 Titans, the 00 Ravens, 03 Panthers and 05 Steelers ...to keep it recent...were in basically the same position as those two teams...
