I think it might even work a little better than MVP when it comes to placing your hits. I feel like I have more control in 2K7 anyway. I'm going to fire up MVP05 tonight just to compare. MVP05 is one of my favorite baseball games ever, but I think that 2K7 is going end up topping it as far as i'm concerned and that's huge to me for sure.Inuyasha wrote:Yes, it is like MVP, where you press the stick in the direction you want the ball to go.JackB1 wrote:has anyone confirmed that you can influence the hit's direction with the left stick as you swing? Played another game last night. Reds at Dodgers. I lost 2-1. I'm still getting used to some of the controls so i probably could have prevented one of those runs by the Reds. Another weird thing happened. The Reds lead off an inning with a triple (caused by throwing to the wrong base) and on the 2nd or third pitch they try to steal home and are out by a mile. I have a bad feeling about some of the AI in this game.
Also, in the bottom of the ninth with one out and down by one i get a single. I decide to put a pinch runner in. Now guess what happens before a single pitch is thrown to the next batter. Yup, the pinch runner is picked off. Way too many pickoffs with default settings. I then discovered the dive back to bag slider and adjusted it so hopefully i won't see as many from now on.
It also seems like you just about HAVE to use the left stick to place your hits, especially if you try for a HR. Three times in the game when i hit the ball very well it was to straight away center and griffey makes an over the shoulder catch to rob me of extra bases.

You mean left stick or right stick? I am assuming you mean the right, as that would be similiar to MVP. The way I understand it, you pull back to step and do a half circle forward in the direction you want to hit. If you want to power/pull it, you go back and push straight to the corner...diagnally.

If you're using the classic hitting mode, then it is just like MVP. Use the left stick to influence the direction of hits and A button to swing away.JackB1 wrote:You mean left stick or right stick? But if you're using the swing stick, you have to push in the up in the 11 o'clock position to hit to left field or the 1 o'clock to right field on the power swings.
I really like the swing stick with the power swing. Seems intuitive and it's very rewarding. But the contact swing seems so counterintuitive, IMO. I mess around with the slider "Power Swing Influence" and see if I can just use the power swing for all swing types.

I'm still trying to find that perfect balance of sliders when it comes to pitching. Most notably when I'm pitching. It seems like the CPU swings at just about every strike I throw. I'm playing on Pro, so perhaps that has something to do with it. They will take their fair share of balls, but they do seem to have that free swing mentality whenever the ball is in the strike zone. I'd like to be able to freeze a batter with a nasty curve every once in a while.
What I find to be pretty sweet is the skill level differences of the pitchers. I played against Houston last night, and Oswalt shut me down big time through 7 innings. I think Wheeler relieved him and while I wasn't able to put more than a couple hits against him, I felt more in control and was making much better contact. Now, I want to see how I fair against a number 3-5 starter, rather than the number one starter. In exhibition mode, is it possible to change the CPU pitcher?

There are some pretty specific sliders for how often the CPU takes pitches.
I'm also doing a lot of tweaking. On All-Star, they just keep hitting homer after homer against me, even when it seems like I'm making my pitches and putting them in rather "un-homer-able" spots. I've been experimenting with setting the majority of sliders smack dab in the middle at 50, with exceptions jacked up (like pitch speed, AI dive back to bag, pitch interface speed) and others a bit lower (I forget which ones). I always have this sneaking suspicion with Kush baseball that they make this game where people perform to their attributes with sliders at the center, and then they futz with everything to try and implement difficulty levels and end up throwing stuff out of wack as a result. It's not a very sound theory, but for some reason it feels right.

I miss MVP's throwing engine. It wasn't realistic but atleast it was some kind of user input. And an error felt like an error.
Am I missing something with this game. After MVP, both "the show" and 2k7 feels boring.

Has anyone been able to do a snap throw to first or third from the catcher?
Last year 2K6 had this feature but it doesn't seem to work for me in this years game. If I'm not mistaken all you have to do is press the button of the base that you want to throw to after the catcher catches the ball.
I'm enjoying the game so far all though it took me 3 days to get the hitting down. My plate discipline was terrible!

Not sure. While I agree, MVP is technically a very sound game of baseball, it always felt very dry to me, and simply put, I just didn't think it was that fun, or never really felt like it held my attention.JRod wrote:I miss MVP's throwing engine. This game is totally bad ass!!!!! I have not felt like this about a sports game in a long time.
There are SO many cool things about this game.
Bottom line...they have finally gotten their baseball game to the caliber of where their basketball series is and where their football series was at (and now on a next-gen system!). Maybe a slight leap ahead even.
Sure, the game has a few quirks (I am not that picky with my sports titles like you nuts are). If it's fun, it's for me and this one is FUN! The presentation is just so neat and it is incredibly immersive.

LOL, I was up till 2 playing.
I'm still messing with sliders, and the game is really coming to me now. I'm just doing a bunch of exhibition games and adjusting as I go. I sometimes take teams that are close in stats, sometimes very lopsided so I can see if the game plays differently. So far it's really starting to get some decent games going. I'll probably continue this until the season starts, then I'll start a season with the rosters from that time. Oh, and if you make changes to your settings while in a season, they will only be saved in the season. So if you are adjusting, do it from an exhibition game before you start a season. Most of my games now are getting around 6-10 hits, and around 4-6 runs; some more some less of course. But I'm getting runners on base and not all runs are coming from homers which is nice.
I have the batter view set at 90%, and I can finally start to see the balls better. I actually finally got my first walk! I am findind that using the batters eye helps tremendosly, as I'll be more cautious if I don't "see" the ball. Most of my HR's now happen when I do "see" it, and I jump on the power swing to try to belt one out. It actually feels more like what a real batter would do (I assume, hey, I played golf in high school!)
The fielding is still not perfect, it seems to be a mix of the momentum feature and the camera angle. The camera is so low that it makes it hard to judge the depth of your fielder in comparison to the ball. Either less momentum or a higher camera would help that (or auto-fielding!!!!) I have found that using very short, quick movements on the stick helps, as it keeps your guy from going into a full sprint just to move a few feet. I still have to get used to it, as I still mess plays up now and then, but it's head and shoulders better than last year.
I'm wondering if they modelled weather into the game, as far as how it effects balls. I did a game in Houston, and cranked up the temperature to the low 90's. The balls were flying out of the park left and right. Naxt game I tried a cool, humid night in Pittsburgh, and there was only one HR. I usually don't see the robbed HR's too much, but my last game had 3 of them. Has turning off the sprint helped? I actually don't mind the sprint, as if you use it too long you guy slows WAY down, so it's not like a turbo button. I know you can adjust the strength and length of time of the sprint, maybe I'll just tone those down a bit. Or teach my batters to hit harder!
By the way, when I cranked up the temperature, the fans were wearing shorts, and they were bundled up when it was cold. Also, Zach Duke got a base hit in the Pirates game, and when the next batter came up, Duke was wearing his batting jacket on first.
So far this is a world apart from last years game, and gives a great start to the 3 year plan. A few more tweaks, a few more bug fixes, a few more features and we'll be there.

I am really enjoying the game. I increased the fielder reaction times to 100 and it seems to help my fielding a lot, but it may just be that I am getting used to it. I actually played two games this morning and only made one fielding mistake that cost me an extra base. I think hitting is superb. Pitching is good but would be better if it was harder to throw strikes.
The animations in the game are a mixed bag. There are a lot of very cool ones, but sometimes I see some WTF stuff like a pitcher catching a line drive behind his back or an outfielder catching a ball without looking at it. I can live with it but hopefully it is something that gets cleaned up next year.
Given the train wreck that was last year's game this is a huge improvement and it's likely I will get my money's worth out of it. However, it's pretty pitiful that this game isn't *that* much better on the field than the game I loved in 2004 (ESPN Baseball 2K4).

I have mine turned on. I just lowered my outfielder speed (can't remember what I have it at now maybe 30 or 40?) to the point where everything appears reasonable and the CPU baserunners are advancing where they should.10spro wrote:Can someone explain why most of you have the outfielders' speed to off? What are the positives to that as I have some problems running trying to catch on the long balls.
A few things I noticed :
Like MVP, especially the first 2 MVP games, when you pitch and make a mistake, like not pressing the button at the right moment and it goes right down the middle, the CPU 9/10 times will make you pay.
Also, played a game at 6am with some guy online last night. We were playing in Coors and you see the Sun rising in the game in the background behind the mountains. One of the coolest things Ive seen in a videogame.
Played a guy who used the Astros. Oswalt is virtually unhittable in this game. His Fast ball I couldn't even catch up to. I lost the game 2-0 and only managed one hit.
Question : I had put my Camera Zoom from 20 down to zero. So wouldn't increasing that be too close to read pitches?

MLB 2k7 is weak in the batting and fielding engines. I think its a step back from where MVP was headed. MVP wasn't perfect but it was a good blend of user input and ratings.
While this is going on underneath the hood the fielding engine is poor. Batting with the classic mode is not as competent as MVP. I think they just made a really poor knockoff of the MVP game.
Back to 2k7. Where's the foul balls. I know we complained about this in MVP but there are so few it really screws up the pitch count.
I'm seeing the same thing. The CPU swings at everying in the zone. They don't wait for good pitches in the zone either.
