I think there's a big part of your answer. Little time? What are you gonna boot up for 10 or 15 minutes? Start a game of MLB?

These games are great for when you don't know how long you have to play, or you only know you have a short while.

Not sure if this has been posted yet:

I think the Oblivion add on is going to use these rules, although by now, Oblivion should be like 2500...

http://gamerscoreblog.com/team/archive/ ... 40575.aspx

1. All regular disc-based games MUST have 1,000 Gamerscore in the base game. This means that any consumer who buys a retail game will have the opportunity to unlock the full 1,000 Gamerscore without having to pay for any add-on content. Note that a publisher may decide to deliver a portion of this Gamerscore via add-on content, but the add-on content will always be free to the consumer.

2. Game publishers will have the option to deliver another 250 incremental Gamerscore on top of the 1,000 via add-on content from Marketplace. This add-on content could be either free or paid. So if you complete a game and earn the full 1,000 GS, you could by getting new add-on content earn up to a total of 1,250 points from a game.

3. Xbox Live Arcade games will operate in similar fashion, but given the size of these titles they will allow you to earn up to 200 Gamerscore from every game and up to another 50 points from add-on content.

Speaking of Live Arcade, I'm excited about that Battlestar Galactica online space shooter they announced, but curious as to how and why it's going to XBLA only. Though I played the demo for that robot game a couple months back, and it looked pretty darn good, so I know it can be done.

I'm all over this one. If it has the Battlestar Galactica atmosphere and classic Wing Commander style gameplay then I'll be in gaming bliss. I really miss the old PC space shooters.

My enthusiasm for XBLA has been dampered seeing as they've had such a difficult time releasing new titles lately, and the ones they have been releasing aren't very interesting to be (Paper Boy, Root Beer Tapper).

Hopefully Worms won't be delayed much longer, Castlevania gets certified, and some other interesting looking (re: somewhat original, not arcade games) are released. Even Alien Hominid looks pretty cool.

When I purchased my 360 it came with XBLA Unplugged, and that seems to have some of the more significant titles already on it, especially the non-arcade titles. They've released little lately to get excited about.

Virtual Console, on the other hand, is releasing a lot of top notch retro games. I'm pretty pumped for when my Wii arrives so that I can start spending $5-$10 on games that I can already get emulated for free. Despite being somewhat techno savvy and able to undertake emulation, I do not mind spending sub-$10 for quality retro titles such as Mario 64, Zelda, and the like. Plus, it's far more intutitive for multiplayer with others, offline, or on (mostly offline, I'm not even sure if VC titles are playable online).

I haven't downloaded a single VC game yet because 1) they are somewhat expensive 2) i've played most of them a billion times over, even it was over a decade ago 3) They are even more expensive when you have to buy a "classic controller" just to play them and 4) None of them are online. I would buy Mario Kart 64 in a heart beat if I could play it online.

While there haven't been enough quality titles released on XBLA lately, at least their are a few original titles that feel fresh when i play them and don't require extra hardware purchases.

Good point LAKing, on the hardware issue; if you want to play VC titles you have to get at least a classic controller or a GameCube controller (apparently the GCN is the most compatible of all, and probably found the cheapest, as far as going the used route is concerned).

It's a bit unfair to compare VC games i think to XBLA titles. Each XBLA title needs to have Leader boards etc and that of course ads to the time involved. Plus Microsoft has a lengthy approval process. I am a bit disappointed as well, I think getting 1 game a week is a joke, but it is what it is.

Not all VC games require the classic controller. All of the NES games can be played with the Wiimote. Anything Genesis, SNES, and beyond requires the classic controller or a Gamecube controller.

Actually, Genesis games can be played on the Wii Remote, but if the game really needs the A button, it can be awkward since it is next to the d-pad. Gunstar Heroes is the only Genesis game I have downloaded and using the remote is fine since the only use for A is to switch the 'powers' for the gun, which I rarely do.

New screen shots of Boom Boom Rocket and *first* screen shots of Wing Commander Arena posted at Team Xbox.

I thought they were going to go top-down with WCA, but apparently not. Both games look interesting in completely different ways.

Looks really good.

Also if you look at Team Xbox homepage they are doing a whole thing on GRAW2, I didn't know it had clan support.

2 new maps and 5 new vehicles available for download tomorrow for Battlestations. From the press release:

Tomorrow , the fast growing community of Xbox 360 Battlestations: Midway players will get the chance to engage in fresh new Pacific battles as two new historical battle maps and brand new vehicles become available on Xbox Live ® Marketplace for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.

The new battle maps will re-enact two epic battles from the Pacific war: The Battle of Sibuyan Sea and The Raid on Truk. Both maps and five new vehicles will be available to download from March 1st.

The Battle of the Sibuyan Sea provides a new multi player experience based on one of the major battles of the Leyte Gulf Campaign, the greatest naval warfare battle in history that effectively destroyed the Japanese fleet in October of 1944. Players command either the US Fleet featuring the USS Iowa and USS Enterprise or Japan’s finest fleet, Kurita, featuring the super battleships Yamato and the ill-fated Musashi.

The single player battle, The Raid on Truk, is based on Operation Hailstone, a massive naval air and surface attack launched by the United States Navy against the Japanese naval and air base at Truk. The devastating attack took place in mid-February 1944. Players command the US Fleet in a four phase battle starting with a P-38 air strike and leading to the command of the USS Enterprise and her screening force.

The new battles will also feature a new and unique set of air, sea, and undersea vehicles that will challenge the player’s skills and naval strategies:

P-38 Lightning
A fast, powerful and distinctive twin-engine interceptor and one of the most important American fighters of the Second World War. Its long range and twin engines made it well suited for duty in the Pacific.

Nakijima J1N1 Gekko
The first Japanese aircraft designed and built specifically to intercept and destroy other aircraft at night. It was deadly against Bombers and as a powerful kamikaze plane against ships.

USS Iowa (BB-61)
The lead battleship of its class. Nicknamed ”The Big Stick”, this famous flagship fought in numerous and significant battles in World War II and the Korean War.

IJN Shimakaze
The IJN Shimakaze (“Island Wind’) is considered to be the fastest and most powerful Destroyer of World War II and she was the only one of her class built.

Type A mini-sub
The Type A mini-sub was a two-man submarine. Difficult to detect, the Type A submarines were used during the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and throughout the war.

Hope that hard-on doesn't interfere with your typing teal.

Alien Hominid is fun (in an old school 2D shooter way). Nice to see another full-screen HD game. Is this an exact port of the GameCube version?
