On a non-violence hockey note, Van plays San Jose tonight. San Jose needs the win a lot more than the Canucks. Should be one hell of a fun game. I'm hoping the Sharks can at least get a point out of this one.

Seeing stars' heads pulverized into mush apparently doesn't move Bettman, Campbell and the NHL GM's to ban head shots from the game. And it's clear that a hit to the NHL's wallet from a top Canadian brand won't have any impact, either:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/201 ... onsor.html

Bettman's response to Air Canada's threats was typical ham-fisted:

"Air Canada is a great brand, as is the National Hockey League," Bettman said at a press conference in Washington D.C. on Thursday. "If they decide that they need to do other things with their sponsorship dollars, that's their prerogative, just like it's the prerogative of our clubs that fly Air Canada to make other arrangements if they don't think Air Canada is giving them the appropriate level of service."

What superb client service by the NHL commissioner. 8O

The NHL at its finest. Chara gets nothing... and Pavel Kubina draws a 3 game suspension for a 2 minute minor in the Blackhawks game, yet all the bitching about is Marty St Louis shootout goal for the win. Yet they disallowed a goal 2 nites earlier that would have given the Bolts a 2-0 lead midway thru the 3rd period against the Caps after St Louis was pushed into the goalie, then called for goalie interference. I doubt the Lightning have enough to win the Cup, but they can go along way in the East, and espescially if they get home ice thru a good part of it. God forbid they screw up the Caps run at it

What a joke of a commish, and what a dreadful job of PR. It's amazing that someone with PR and communication skills as bad as his can be a commissioner for this long. His response to Air Canada is a flat-out disgrace. I think a lot of NHL teams have excellent front offices composed of talented people, but the brass at the league office needs a thorough cleaning out. It's embarrassing really.

The fact that the pigs at the nhl ignored the history of the two is pretty cool too. This is the game before this one.

To show that Pacioretty did play a part and that chara did have motive for both that slash and that near decapitation...the game before the game before....

Im just amazed( NO IM NOT!) that the nhl douchebags didnt know any of this was happening.

Last(?) but not least some good news. Pacioretty is well enough to tell the nhl and chara where to shove it.... :)

Speaking to TSN....
"I believe he was trying to guide my head into the turnbuckle. We all know where the turnbuckle is. It wasn't a head shot like a lot of head shots we see but I do feel he targeted my head into the turnbuckle."

Agree with the victim 100%. It's unfortunate that Chara was not assessed at least a game suspension, Bettman's answer to AC was a kindergarten response to a serious threat from one of the league's longest sponsors. Now calling the local authorities to do a further investigation is nothing but a waste of tax payers money and will find nothing. You just can't prove someone's intent. Just as you've been saying 34, it'll probably take an unfortunate death or someone to be paralyzed in the future for the top honchos to deal with this type of actions.

The NHL has had four opportunities in the last two years to make a statement about head shots and things of this nature...the Richards hit on David Booth, the Cooke hit on Marc Savard, the well disguised head shot on Crosby in January and now this. You get a sense that along with the mess going on in Phoenix, Atlanta and lately things have been spiraling to hell quickly for Bettman and the league.

Hockey players have a great sense of knowing exactly where they are all the time. Its almost second nature, at least I can speak for myself who still plays this contact sport. For the Pros playing the sport their whole life, they are very very aware of that part of the hockey rink and how dangerous it can be. Its a commonly known part of the ice rink that can cause serious injury and every player knows this. With that being said, Chara new exactly what he was doing and was very aware of where they where on the ice. The big Bruins captain may not have had any intent to injure Pacioretty but he should be held accountable for his hit.

In my view that extra shove to the turnbuckle could have been controlled by Chara knowing again the part of the ice that the play took place.

Now knowing fully how incompetent Campbell and CO are at handing out suspensions, where are the players, Union PA in regard to these incidents?

Emphasis on the "maybe". I thought having their marquee player out with a concussion would prompt the NHL to act far more sternly with regards to head-shots but no dice and who knows when Crosby's coming back. Maybe if Pacioretty had died Chara would have got a 1 game suspension. As it stands Pacioretty has a fracture of his C4 vertebrae - basically, for all intents and purposes he broke his f***in neck.

I like Chara and don't see him as a goon but I also don't buy he didn't know where he was on the ice. Even in rec hockey leagues people yell out when the bench doors are open and as others have said these guys know their location on the ice at all times.

Whatever. An absolute joke of a league.

You better believe the NHLPA would have a much louder voice about head injuries if the Big E still worked for the union. Concussions ended the careers of Eric Lindros and his brother Brett.

The San Jose-Vancouver match up was one helluva of an entertaining game, one of the reasons I love this game when the game is being played so well by both teams, with lots of emotions and scoring chances galore on both sides. The game was decided in a SO after the Sharks tied the thriller with 20 seconds left and the last 5 minutes of the game was just wild. If these two teams end up playing each other again in the playoffs, it'll be a fun ride for sure.

Amid all the bad rep that the league is getting these days, if you were at the Shark tank tonight, you certainly got a lot of entertainment value for your buck, one of the best games that I watched this season.

No one ever said he was. This isnt about his saint hood or about the Habs and bruins, its about cleaning up this garbage before someone gets killed.

He should have been suspended for that moronic and dangerous play . Read above flow chart.

Thats the whole point. This crap has to go but it never will as long as these same clowns run this league.

We could go on all day posting plays of players delivering dangerous head blows that were not acted on by the league.

Here we see Chara twice in one game take Grabovskis head. Once into the boards and then into the glass and he is a " clean" player never worthy of suspension.

Shame and disgrace. Disgrace and shame.
From the fake chara hearing.....campbell's chimp, murphy.
"In reviewing this play, I also took into consideration that Chara has not been involved in a supplemental discipline incident during his 13-year NHL career."

Just another NHL lie as he was suspended once before and had another automatic suspension overturned. Looks like the chimp had no access to charas records????

Maybe.... I just figure the incompetent part goes without saying when it comes to bettman, campbell and his chimp.

Seriously. If thats going to be one of your two -three major points in why you made your irresponsible decision it should at least be true.

EDIT: Why couldnt they have just given him 2-3 games?...sighs...They have tired me out :P

Pacioretty or however you spell it is a rat to come out and make those statements about Chara when he has done similar things. I think Long Island cops should investigate him and bring him into court in handcuffs for that hit on Eaton!

I don't think this hit is a good one to use to push for more protection to headshots because it's an unusual play and a rule addressing it would just end being an albatross. "Bad facts make bad law." The NHL should be trying to target the types of plays where players get preyed upon and the vast majority of head injuries occur, rather than one freak result.

OTOH, no one is pleased with how the NHL handles these situations in general, and I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see a house-cleaning in the offseason. Campbell out with new policies for league discipline, and Bettman out in favor of a commish who will actually show some leadership on on-ice issues rather than being smarmy and utterly unconstructive.

I love Big Joe since he plays for my Sharks, but wish he would have kept his mouth shut on this incident. His comments come off as being bitter and conspiratorial. I'm not sure Boston fans would agree that the NHL favors Boston after nothing was done to Cooke when he essentially screwed Savard's career and after mild action was taken following the Bergeron incident. All this crap about the NHL favoring or not favoring certain teams is pure hogwash. The truth of the matter is the NHL is just flat-out incompetent, run by incompetent idiots who make a lot of inconsistent and arbitrary decisions. I'm actually glad that if anything bad happened it happened to a Hab because maybe something will change now. Habs fans won't shut up about stuff and let it go, and will hopefully not let this incident go without the NHL changing some things.

Canucks were down already 2-0 against the Flames in the first 5 minutes of the game in CAL, but they never got rattled despite their early mistakes. They finished with a perfect road record of 5-0 after playing without much emotion in February when they were playing at home alternating wins and losses at Rogers arena.

It's a quiet confidence that I see in the team, as long as they continue to play with emotion and use their speed, they'll be fine down the stretch.

K. Bieksa and A. Alberts should be back in another week and A. Edler will be ready by the playoffs. Without them, the back end has not been as stingy as they can be but the good tandem of Luongo-Schneider have been closing the door when it mattered the most.
