I fail to see how Apple gets away with suing everyone and their mom for devices that "look" like their device, yet they copied nearly EVERYTHING from Android so far in today's keynote. I'm an Apple fan, don't get me wrong, an Apple TV, an Ipad 2 and a MacBook Air all reside in my house for my personal use...however, this is just hilarious. The new "features" in iOS 5:

Siri voice command - already done though not quite to the extent that apple did (so kudos deserved there i guess)
Find my Friends - google latitude
notifications - copied directly
icloud - google invented it
twitter integration - always been in android
wireless activation - android from the start

I just don't get the hype around the iPhone I guess. I used one for a year and the minute Android came out with their product, i was a convert. Oh yeah, apple stock has already plummeted today...DURING the press conference. LOL.

And no iPhone 5...wow.

Shocked they didn't go iPhone 5....the fanboys are going to be jumping off bridges now. I also am a fan of doing a demo and having the game stutter on the device that is supposedly 7x faster than the previous iPhone 4. That's classic Bill Gates BSOD right there. :)

Hey!

At least the 4S has a bigger screen! Oh wait...

Never mind, no upgrade for me at the moment, I'll wait for the 5.

Yeah...incredible. And they'll still sell a sh*t ton of them.

And don't get me wrong about the new "features" in iOS5...those are the main reasons I like Android better. The playing field is being leveled somewhat. Always a good thing. Just lets Android innovate with regards to features and iOS just has to catch up.

But hey...at least you can take a picture and make a card out of it and have apple send it for you. WTF?

Considering I've waited 2 months to replace a water damaged 3GS, this phone is a pretty significant upgrade for me.

As one comment at CNN.com read, Apple could have put the iPhone 4S into the hand of a cutout of Steve Jobs on stage today and sold 12 million by tonight. :)

Can't blame people for being disappointed in the iPhone 4S after months of speculation on the iPhone 5, I just want ios5 to be released.

I just don't understand how a 5th generation iPhone with an A5 chip and running iOS5 can be called anything but iPhone 5.

There would have been a lot less negative response if this phone were released back in the summer. Everyone was diggin all the iOS 5 stuff back when that was announced.

Seriously though...The guts on this thing seem pretty upgraded from the 4. Twice as fast processing, seven times faster graphics. I'm kind of happy not to see a bigger screen with teardrop design at the back (rumors for iphone 5). The box design of the 4 seems perfect to me (I guess they can keep making it thinner over the years).

File this in the crazy rumor. The iPhone 5 is exclusive to Sprint for $20 billion.

It's pretty simple actually...they will be back on the summer release schedule next year with the LTE and Wimax 4G versions. That's my bet anyway. They don't want to release the 5 and then have to do the same thing over again next summer when they have the new hardware ready. It's almost guaranteed that the 4G versions are going to have to be a bit thicker to house the new chipsets...so the hardware redesign goes into the next iteration. The LTE networks aren't big enough and still in their infancy when it comes to the control chips that it is going to take a while longer. That way they can go and release the 5 next summer and sell a bagillion of them. Mark it down.

And they definitely couldn't have released this phone in the summer. It would have alienated all of the Verizon customers who waited so long to get it. Can't release one 5 months after the Verizon version releases. PR nightmare. At least now, you have the incremental upgrade for 9 months before they drop the 5.

It looks significant on paper, but unless iOS 5 severely cripples performance of the current iPhone 4, it's gonna be very hard to justify spending the $$.

In my case, my upgrade eligibility kicks in on February, 2012.

By then, we could have a clearer picture of what the iPhone 5 would be, and if it's gonna be a summer or early fall release.

If the 4s would have had a 4.3 inch screen it would be a no-brainer for me. That's the only hardware spec I would love to have right now.

Since it's not, until my current iPhone 4 ceases to perform snappy and plays game perfectly, I would not take the plunge.

**In your case (current 3GS owner), updating to the 4s is an obvious and more than understood decision.

It is a risk to go over a year and then use the same form factor. One the one hand, iPhone 4 was their biggest hit. On the other hand, iPhone 4S doesn't give a lot of those iPhone 4 owners a reason to upgrade because the design is the same.

iPhone doesn't sell only on specs but on design and on features. We'll see if the Siri stuff is a big enough draw for people. I never tried the voice features they had already because I don't like those IVR systems that you have to deal with.

Really the only time people would speak to their phone and listen back would be when your driving or your hands can't easily operate the phone. But is that really a big part of everyone's day, driving and wanting to fiddle with the phone?

Yeah besides LTE, there should be a new case design, maybe that liquid metal stuff for iPhone 5.

They put in a beefy GPU, the same core as the one that will be in the Vita (which will have 4 of them). But it doesn't seem like there are a lot of high-quality 3D games, aside from Infinity Blade and Rage.

I'm in the 3GS boat. Get it now or wait until next year when the iPhone 5 is announced. I would love to switch networks but neither Verizon or Sprint (if they are getting one) will allow for both data and voice which is a big deal to me.

ATT blows and I don't want to keep paying the.

Not sure that has been confirmed either way. The fact that it's a dual mode phone with CDMA and GSM would lead me to believe you may be able to do both voice and data at the same time, assuming they used the correct CDMA chip.

For example, a device like the HTC Thunderbolt can do both data and voice on the 3G CDMA chip they used (even when ONLY a 3G coverage area)...whereas a lot of the other verizon phones need to be on LTE to do it. Might want to wait before you make that declaration for sure.

I'll be passing on the 4s. iOS 5 added to my iPhone 4 (and iPad 2) will do me just fine for now. Still getting great performance from it. I'll be eligible for upgrade come February. I'll wait for the probable summer release of the iPhone 5. The new features of iOS 5 will have just enough shininess for me.

Stick with ATT or go with Sprint? That's the question. Since I'm grandfathered in, I have the unlimited data plan. Completely unsure what to do regarding networks.

ATT in my area is terrible. Like you can't text inside of buildings.

So then isn't the choice obvious? Worst case, you try out Sprint for a few days and if it's worse, go back to At&t. They all have return policies with new service. No harm in trying. However, didn't you say you need voice/data at the same time? Sprint uses CDMA as well.
