PS3 Impressions Yes Another One....

EXACTLY. I mean, really.. how is MS in trouble? You can't compare gaming libraries of the 360 and the ps3 at this point.LAking wrote:MS can easily afford to wait until right before the holiday season to make a price cut. Their console is STILL $100 cheaper than the PS3, plus it's got the great library of games.Danimal wrote:Well if it really is a retail wide cut and MS doesn't follow suit, they are in some serious trouble.
I doubt they're doing it on their own. The wholesale price to retailers is not that much less than the retail price to the consumers.
So CC would be taking a loss, for what reason exactly?
I think when the X360 was discounted last Xmas by Amazon and Microcenter, that was also with MS support. Again, these retailers have no incentive to sell for a loss. It makes more sense that MS, in an effort to hit their publicized year-end targets, ran limited promotions with certain retail channels to move units but not enact a universal price cut.
Sony could also run promotions like bundle games before they take the drastic step of enabling a price cut across the board.

Ok,I've had the ps3 for a week or so,and I have a problem with "The Show". I cannot get the newest rosters online, because the game freezes at the load screen when I got the internet connection enabled, Game plays just fine when I disable it. Anyone know of any workarounds? I deleted and reinstalled the game, but no luck.
Yes that's I would call a good value.skinsfan wrote:A 200 dollar Core with a 50 dollar 512mb memory card would represent a good value, especially for those who don't get into online gaming.Rodster wrote:I'm waiting for the Elite to drop in price so I can buy one. My hope is the Elite drops to $379, Premium $299 and the Core $199.

I am super excited about Unchartered after watching an interview with the Naughty Dog developers on Game Head. Is this the first game that is going to be on Blu-Ray disc?
Everything about the game looks fantastic. Now, this is a game that interests me more so than a game like GOW or Halo 3. I'll be there on launch day.

All PS3 games are on Blu-Ray.
Maybe you're thinking of them including HD video on it as an extra supplement to the game?
So far, most of the games have been on single layer or 25 GB discs (BD-25). More and more movies are using 50 GB discs (BD-50) but I haven't heard of any games yet. They could do it by cramming a lot of video in it. More levels, they will probably sell as downloads though, because it is expensive to generate levels with new art.
I think Resistance was suppose to be 16 GB or so.
Uncharted is by the people who made the Jak and Dakster series. They said that with this generation, they can have human-like characters instead of cartoony characters.
Yes the game has a lot of buzz because of the animation and environment rendering they've shown so far. But it hasn't been hyped for a new game as much as say Gears of War, even though graphically, it could exceed that game.

No, it definitely won't exceed higher sales than GOW, but without a doubt it has a greater appeal to me. I'm just so tired and bored of "alien shooters".
They did say the cover system is very similar to GOW which is great.
With this game, MGS, possibly Lair, and MLB The Show, I am an exceptionally happy PS3 gamer. Yes, the 360 trumps the PS3 right now in terms of quality games, but the future looks bright.

Look out for Heavenly Sword as well, which Sony should feature at E3 next week. That game has heavy production values and the best comparison to make would be God of War, with huge army battles and lush environments.
The new Ratchet and Clank game is getting noticed too, for great graphics.
I have high hopes for Warhawk (a downloadable multiplayer-only game) and Little Big Planet (also downloadable with user-designed levels and I believe multiplayer co-op) as well.
Also Assassin's Creed, which will be available on X360 as well.

I have read in several places that Heavenly Sword is pretty much God of War with a sexy female star. I wonder if that is one the mark.wco81 wrote:Look out for Heavenly Sword as well, which Sony should feature at E3 next week. I have also read in a couple of places that Lair may be in trouble (i.e. not very good). Sony really has to make the most of its exclusive titles if it has any hopes of keeping sales up enough to make sure third party publishers stick around.
I am not sure what I am most looking forward to this year. Nothing really, which is kind of strange to me. I am on the fence with Warhawk - I am usually not very good at games that require me to work both analog sticks. Little Big Planet could also be interesting, but that is a long ways off. I know Sony will not do it, but I wish they would bring back Gamebreakers. If their NBA game has wonderful graphics, and their MLB game makes graphics whore happy, I wonder what they could do with football.
I know one thing. I could care less about more FPS - Resistance is enough for me - but I know they put up good numbers, so we should see plenty.
Not to go too far off topic, but I really wonder what Nintendo is going to throw out that makes even more folks want a Wii? Same for MS - after H3, are they going to have any system sellers?
The biggest thing that Sony can do at E3 is announce some soft of software toolkit to help port games from PC/360 that allow developers to focus their efforts on taking advantage of the PS3 hardware. Or they are going to have to start offering free consulting services to the third party developers to help them with their porting efforts. Sony is not careful, they really run the risk of turning into the Nintendo 64 and GC - great 1st party game, but no variety because of lack of 3rd party support.

Doesn't EA have the exclusive NCAA rights as well? If so, then Sony can't bring back Gamebreakers.
If APF is a success at all (500,000 copies?), then Sony should seriously consider giving 2k an exclusive for the next APF game. 2k could optimize the game for the PS3 the way they used to take advantage of the XBox (compared to Madden which was always built for the PS2). If EA/Tiburon is still running Madden at 30 fps, that could be a big factor for people looking to buy only one football game. Plus, maybe deep pocket Sony could give 2k some extra cash to bring in even more of the Legends.

It will be interesting to see what the 2K football game does (and by platform should also be interesting). I am not pre-ordering the game, but I may give it a rent.
To be honest, I am not that big of a frame-rate person. It does not bother me that much that PS3 NCAA and Madden are running at 30 FPS instead of 60 FPS. I can pick up a poor frame rate (i.e. slowdown), but I assume that the past PS2 titles have been 30 FPS. If that is the case, and EA gives the PS3 version 1080p with no slowdown, then I will be happy.

Last year both Madden and NCAA on the 360 ran 30FPS. It never bothered me at all. Sure 60FPS will always be nicer because the changes in animations are more fluid and subtle.
I have both machines and i'll get it for the 360, but I think too many are making a big deal like the gameplay will be terrible only because it's running at 30FPS, not true.

I just pre-ordered APF for both the 360 and PS3 at Gamestop yesterday. I much prefer playing games on the PS3, but I like 60 fps enough that I know I'll also want to play it on the 360. To be perfectly honest, I really don't mind giving 2k the $120 or whatever it is as a show of support, either. That's 2 copies sold anyways.

Sony has made some real blunders with the PS3 and exclusives, but I canNOT see them passing on Madden and going exclusive with APF. AFAIK, Madden PS2 is the best selling football game period. Someone correct me if I am wrong. No way Sony cuts off Madden for APF because Sony needs a successful Madden far more than they need a successful APF.GTHobbes wrote:If APF is a success at all (500,000 copies?), then Sony should seriously consider giving 2k an exclusive for the next APF game. 2k could optimize the game for the PS3 the way they used to take advantage of the XBox (compared to Madden which was always built for the PS2). Another issue that is not being discussed is the challenge in developing for the PS3, especially porting from the 360. The 360 version uses unified shaders and the RSX is not a unified shader architecture and is not as powerful as the Xenos in the 360. I have a feeling that since Sony is finally updating their dev kts and tools that Madden 09 will have a much better chance of being 60 fps and competing more capably with the 360 with another year of development and experience with RSX (Sony's nVidia garphics chip).
I agree with Divot. Madden is a far stronger franchise than APF as it's still unknown how gamers will react to the product. We'll see soon enough regrading sales and I hope it does well. Be that as it may, at times Sony is dumb and sometimes stupid but giving an exclusive to APF instead of Madden is downright suicide. I don't see that happening.
What does one thing have to do with the other? By giving an exclusive to APF, that just means that APF could not be sold on the 360. It wouldn't mean that Madden couldn't be made for the PS3. Or, are you saying that would give Microsoft the incentive to give EA/Tiburon an exclusive for the 360? They'd have to come up with a helluva lot of cash to make that worth EA's while. I don't see that happening, or it would've happened already. MS is already spending $1B to fix the red ring of death problems, I seriously doubt they'll feel like funding EA's stupid deal with the NFL just to counter Sony's exclusive with APF.
My guess is that somebody at Sony has already given this some thought. Again, if APF is a downright flop then none of this will matter.

If Sony doesn't get a kick start and get more units in the hands of consumers, I don't see 2K Sports giving an exclusive to the company with a much smaller userbase.
It's obvious that this year the game will sell more on the 360 just because of userbase alone. The 360 is currently on the pace of outselling the PS3 (on a monthly basis) nearly 2-1.
I don't see 2K passing on the 360 market.
Also, hasn't 2K already stated publicly that they do not intend to release this game on a yearly basis? I presume they'll probably release enhancements, legends etc via download.
All speculation, of course.

If Sony is hell bent on signing APF to an exclusive then it proves my point they are dumb, borderline stupid. Why not go after a mega exclusive like GTA IV, Ace Combat 6, Devil may Cry 4, or MGS4 (which is rumored to appear on the 360).
Those titles make sense because they have a lot of hype and sell systems, APF 2K8 doesn't. I prefer to play licensed NFL games not some fictitious Legends game at full price..ouch, no thanks !
Going after APF with an exclusive is like EA doing a College Baseball game. They only did it because they lost the MLB license but even they admitted Baseball games in general lack the sales punch of Madden. I might be proven wrong but I put APF in that category. It won't help Sony and they're just throwing money away.
It would have been much smarter to lock down a mega game that will sell millions rather than a game that has it's fanbase that's made up of NFL2K5. I hope i'm proven wrong but until 2K Sports gets a shot at the NFL license and I hope Roger Goodell is smart enough to allow multiple parties to share the license I see APF as a marginal success. I know i'm not paying $60 bucks for a non NFL game.

I agree - just said the same thing a few posts back. At E3, Sony really needs to announce what they are doing to make porting PC/360 games to the PS3 easier, and allow developers to more easily take advantage of what the PS3 has to offer. I understand that it may require a lot of re-work to port the games, but Sony needs to understand since they game of the gate second, many developers are going to start with the PC/360 first, and then consider the PS3 second. I am sure that is what happened with Madden/NCAA - there was already existing code on the 360, so why try to rewrite everything for the PS3?DivotMaker wrote:Another issue that is not being discussed is the challenge in developing for the PS3, especially porting from the 360.

I misunderstood you then as I wrongly assumed you meant that Sony would make 2K8 the exclusive football game on the PS3. My bad.GTHobbes wrote:What does one thing have to do with the other? I think others have stated that there is no real incentive for Sony to do an exclusive for a title like 2K8 because today, they just don't have the userbase to make that kind of deal worthwhile. In a year or two they might, but by then, who knows what the console football market will look like....
