One unrealistic thing happened so far--I accidentally nailed Eckstein with a Santana changeup with 2 outs in the top of the 4th. I have Cuddyer leading off for me with Morneau on deck. Carpenter drilled Cuddyer with a fastball and then served up a beach ball and allowed me to tie the game at 2. Somehow I think LaRussa would have waited a bit for retaliation, like when Punto was on deck.

I definitely need to tone down the pitch speed, I have no clue if a pitch is a ball or strike early enough at this point.
Now I've read that if you put the "zoom" in the clasic camera settings to 100, it's easier to see the ball when hitting. I am going to try this tonight.

Press the Xbox Button in the middle of the controller then go to the personal settings or whatever the 2nd option (right above the media player) is.

WTF is wrong with 2k sports and bugs in their games.

Cards v Sox 1st inning.

Schilling pitches to Rolen who hits a hard pop up to CF. He misses the ball which goes inches underneath his glove. I press the wrong button and throw to 2nd as Rolen heads for three.

Rolen is on the bag at 3rd and gets called out. The Ump thought he was safe and makes the "SAFE" call.

2k Sports has some of the worst glaring bugs in any video game.

I had a weird thing happen today with the demo.....I had men on 1st and 2nd and i hit a gounder to short. They go to 2nd for the out and then to first and they called the runner safe when he was only halfway down the first base line! The weirdest part was that the announcers said it was a triple play!

Played my first game as Pittsburgh vs Cleveland and won 2-1 in a pitchers duel. I really like pitching in this game. I had my starter Zach Duke make it to the 9th with 2 outs before getting ejected after hitting a batter after Cleveland was warned earlier in the game for hitting one of my players, great stuff.

Didn't see any weird bugs in my game, it did take an hour to complete though by watching all of the cut scenes and replays. Now for a roster update so I can start a season.

Played a couple of games against by brother-in-law this evening. The games were quite fun, but what was most entertaining was some commentary that occured after my BIL found, quite by accident, the switch plate side button with a non-switch hitter. What's better is that there was custom commentary for switching him back! I think we did two complete switches and back and there were at least a couple of lines of for each switch. I did not play last year's game to know if it was present in that version, but it was some very funny chatter. I'd encourage any of you with the game to give it a try for kicks. Not entirely sure which button switches sides at the plate but I think it is RB.

Just had one of those great gaming experiences that I wanted to share.

I've had this game since the day it was released, and after only one game decided to start a 10 game season with the Padres (on Pro level). Well, I was 1-5 going into tonights game, still getting the hang of things. Sunday night game at Dodger Stadium, Lowe vs. Young.

My problems in the first few loses were a combination of learning the timing for the hitting, and learning how to not overrun the ball in the field. I've gone from the swing stick to the A button, back to the stick, and now back to the button. I've turned off the turbo option, and have the batting camera at 10, but otherwise it's stock sliders.

The Padres went on top in the first inning after Adrian Gonzalez knocked in Sledge with a double to the gap in right. That would be it for the scoring through 7 innings. In the top of the 8th, I had Sledge guess up and in and the indicator lit up. I pushed up and in on the left-stick and smashed a solo shot to right to put the Padres up 2-0.

On the defensive side, Young was pitching great and had 10 K's through seven innings. His stamina was down to 15%, but I brought him out to start the 8th, and he got another couple K's and sent the Dodgers down in order. I got Trevor up in the bullpen, but knew that I wanted to go for the complete game.

In the 9th, with his stamina down to single digits, Young couldn't hit the broadside of a barn! One thing led to another, and the Dodgers had 2 men on with 2 out and Ethier at the plate. (Yeah - I know that IRL Trevor would be brought in...) The crowd was cheering, Young was down to 0% stamina, and I did all I could to find the plate. The game ended with Young's 15th K of the game, and the players mobbed Young on the mound! It was a great, tense ending to a fantastic game.

Padres 2-12-0
Dodgers 0-4-0

Young, 9 IP, 4 H, 1 BB, 15K

Young also plunked two Dodgers when I came to far inside with a couple of breaking pitches. The great thing was that Lowe retaliated an inning later and was ejected!! Ha!

Everything about the game was great, from the twilight to night lighting affects, to the presentation, to the gameplay. I know that I'm going to be in a minority with this opinion, but I'm having more fun with MLB2K7 than any other baseball game ever. That includes High Heat and MVP 05. It's not that it necessarily plays a better game of baseball (although I think it's damn good), but it keeps my interest through all 9 innings, something those other games could never do consistently.

This game has really turned me around. I haven't even touched the show tonight, all I did was play this.

One bad thing I noticed tonight, I played a random night game at seattle, and it was very hard to pick up the ball because the way the field is lite up. No biggie, but hard to pickup the ball on the infield.

You know what this game reminds me of now. MLB2K3 on Xbox. Remember that game, it was the game with the Cursor batting but imo was very fun to play (2k4 was the one with HH batting but very boring all around to play). This game reminds me of that but on Next Gen Steroids.

I had a strange thing happen last night, it was late but i am almost positive that this happened. I was playing as the marlins vs. detroit and i was winning 4-1 i put in a closer and he starts to get shelled a little and i am thinking i am going to blow this lead. With 2 runners on the batter rocks a shot in center for a double, scoring the 2 runs, I'm like ok great here we go, but i settled down and got the game done..... wait what the??? score was 4-2 not 4-3. Joe even said they had brought this game within one run. I'm not sure what has happened and i wish i was paying more attention but it seems one run didnt count. Now i'm not sure if thay runner changed his mind and held up at 3rd, since i was working on one more out and the win. If it was true i hope it freakish and rare. Anyone remember back with HH03(i think?) they had a debug mode when something like this happened, you could just adjust the score/out if needed.

what would be nice is they collect bugs for a month and release a patch as a touch up

Very deep. You can't edit hair or facial hair, but there's an incredible amount of accessories you can add to your player.

One option that was sorely missed, unless I just can't find it, is the option to have the pitcher's ball cursor invisible to start. In a two player game, you end up waiting for the thing to go away rather than tip your pitches so it adds a few seconds per pitch in addition to potentially tipping your spot if you forget. I'm guessing that this problem should not exist over Live, but is a considerable annoyance in face-to-face play.

Agreed.

It also provides a nice challenge vs. the CPU when you really want to make it tough to hit your spots all the time. I'm not sure if it's possible to have "control problems" in this game.

has anyone confirmed that you can influence the hit's direction with the left stick as you swing? I thought it was just to guess pitch location before the pitch and then it "locks in" when the pitcher starts his windup.

Diablo25 wrote:
kevinpars wrote:The hitting seems to be zone based much like MVP was. Hitter's eye is basically a risk/reward for guessing the correct location, but after that is completed, the left stick seems to pick the location where you 'want' to hit the ball. For example, if you are batting left handed and want to pull the ball, you would push the left stick to the right. If you want to go the opposite way, you would push the stick to the left. I assume that if you try to pull the ball and the pitch is way inside, you would either miss badly or weakly pop up.

If hitting works the same way in the HR Derby as it does in the regular game, you can test this out. Go into HR Derby and try to hit the meatball pitches down the line, the other way, straight away and use the left stick to do this. It is an exaggerated test, since you are hitting meatballs, but if the hitting truly works the same way in the real game, it is a good way to get comfortable with it.

EDIT: I tend to agree with Diablo, but I do think it allows the user to try to play 'station to station' baseball, where you can try to move the runner by hitting behind him. But it is not like real baseball. I haven't played enough to determine if it is done well in the game.

But I am enjoying the game more than past iterations. It still takes too long to play a game, but I think that it is hard to make a baseball game that plays quickly. Pitching and defense require a lot of thought if you want to win. If you have first and third and no out, as a pitcher you need to think about pitch placement and as a manager you need to think about fielder location. How important is the runner at third? Can I risk letting him score and try to avoid a big innning? If you choose wrong, it can cost you the game - but it takes time for strategy. But at least you have the save game to fall back on if time is an issue.
Kevin, I don't mind the ability to be able to pull/go the other way (THAT is realistic) but the fly ball/ground ball thing bugs me. Sure, in certain situations hitters will try and hit a ground ball (man on 3rd, less than 2 outs and the infield is back) or a fly ball but having the ability to do it all the time is what gets me.

I have to say, I am very happy with the amount of walks you can draw if you are patient at the plate. The AI will nibble at corners a lot and if you have good eye, you can draw a good amount of walks...and that is with default ALLSTAR sliders.
