You'd leave the Blues if you had a chance, too. Did anyone believe Weight a couple of weeks ago that he wanted to stay in St. Louis?10spro wrote:Carolina is serious for the Cup folks. Dougie Weight waived his no trade clause and will be playing for them in exchange for a 1st draft pick and 3 other players.

Carolina could get scary-good right now. It already has the best record in the league and has two of the better setup men in the game not named Forsberg on its roster -- Stahl and Weight.
Take care,
PK

It's crazy in St. Louis right now. Blues actually get 3 players and 3 draft picks. Blues get one stiff in Jesse Boulerice, and two suspects in Mike Zigomanis and the rights to a swedish forward currently playing for Frolund in the swedish elite league. Where the Blues make out on the deal is they they get Carolina's 2006 #1 pick and two 4th rounders one which is in the 2007 draft. The 3 draft picks alone for the rebuilding Blues make this a great deal considering that at this point Carolina is basically renting Doug Weight for 2 months.10spro wrote:Carolina is serious for the Cup folks. The Blues also traded Mike Sillinger to Nashville and Dallas Drake was rumored to be cleaning out his locker this afternoon but no word on where he's been dealt yet but you know it will be one to of the cup contenders.

Weight is also on record as saying that if were to be traded that he would be very interested in resigning with the Blues next season and finishing out his career in St. Louis. The Blues have 3 players under contract, a new owner with deep pockets(annoucement soon), possibly the #1 overall all pick in June as well as a late 1st round pick, and will be in a good situation next year with the deepest crop of UFA's the NHL has ever seen. The rumor is that John Davidson will be the new Blues President when the new ownership group takes over.pk500 wrote:You'd leave the Blues if you had a chance, too. The only bad thing about this deal is that Weight is a UFA after this season. So he is the NHL equivalent of David Cone in the 90s in baseball -- bring him in at the trade deadline to help you win a title and then let him go because of salary concerns.
Weight makes $5.7 million this year. At 35, I can't see Carolina paying him that sum next year, especially with talented young players like Stahl commanding big bucks as the future of the franchise.
Dougie better not buy a house in Raleigh ...
Take care,
PK

JD, huh? Very interesting. He's a sharp cookie and can't do any worse in the transition from the booth to the front office than Matt Millen has done with the Lions.

Yeah Tim, I also believe that Weight is also a rental property as he becomes a free agent at the end of the season. Rumours are that a guy from NY will buy the Blues. The only guy left to be traded is K.Tkachuk who's making a ridicolous 7.6 million for being fat when he comes back from his hand injury.

Wow -- Carolina is stacked at center:
Weight
Brind'Amour
Stahl
Cullen
Adams
Any NHL team would give its left nut for that kind of diversified strength down the middle. Weight is great on faceoffs and a great passer. Brind'Amour might be the best faceoff man in the NHL and is a tough leader. Stahl is a VERY gifted scorer and passer. Cullen has 20 goals this year. Adams is one of the most underrated defensive centers in the NHL.
Wow. I may have to tune into Carolina more often on Center Ice. I watched the 'Canes quite a bit early but let them slip away on my dial. I need to tune in again.

Well he's well respected and trust me our current guy Mark Sauer is a complete joke. Remember Sauer is the guy that singlehandely destroyed the Pittsburgh Pirates in the late 80's early 90's. JD is just a rumor but he does appear to have close ties with the new owner Dave Checketts. Former Ranger GM Neil Smith was also rumored to be the new Blues GM on Checketts first go around which never went through.pk500 wrote:Tim:

Drake, McAmmond, and Weinrich have all been mentioned as pretty much out the door as well. Tkachuck is on record saying he will not waive his no trade clause and that he's going down with the ship! However the Blues may try and force him to waive it buy trading everybody. Tkachuck is by far and away our best player, the guy puts out 110% every game when he's in the lineup and he was on a tear before his latest injury. He's got nobody to get him the puck now. Tkachuk is also a bargain next year something like 3.5mil for the season. The Blues may not want to give that up.10spro wrote:Yeah Tim, I also believe that Weight is also a rental property as he becomes a free agent at the end of the season. Leafs snap their losing streak!
Tucker with another goal, and Luongo made this closer than it should've been but Belfour also had his best game in over a month.
With McCabe back in the lineup tommorow night (he could've played tonight, but with Florida having the worst ice in the NHL and the Leafs playing back-to-back he didn't want to run the risk of re-injuring himself), Toronto could be back on the upswing. I hope.

Pitkanen is having an amazing season. Shame on any other Flyers fans who stopped watching when Philadelphia went 2-0 down in the third period like I did. But luckily I turned the game back on just in time to see Pitkanen's game winner.Diablo25 wrote:...and win it in OT!!! Pitkanen with a blast top shelf!
I know they looked pathetic against the Lightning but they have so many injuries it is amazing they are in 1st. Their road record is something like 16-5!Feanor wrote:Pitkanen is having an amazing season. Last night's Wild-Red Wings game had a very spirited 3rd period. I didn't catch either of the first two, but the Wings went for 4 in the 1st and the Wild answered with 3 in the 2nd. I thought both teams were really going for it and it was really physical but never dirty.
The Wild have played better but their lack of talent is so obvious against a team like Detroit. Have to give them credit for the Rolston signing, compared to some of the high-priced turkeys skating around this year, he looks like an absolute steal.

Special thanks last night to St. Louis and Detroit for beating Calgary and Minnesota, respectively. My Oilers thank you!

How 'BOUT 'dem Blue Jackets!!!
8 out of 10... 5 in a row... a franchise record!
PK, the Oil never had a chance last night!
J/K, it was a good game though. Too bad it's probably too little too late for the Blue Jackets. They'd have to keep this up the rest of the season just to have an outside chance to make the playoffs.

Canucks will be battling with Flames tonight for 1st place and tomorrow against the other Alberta team. Oilers are having trouble at home this season with a mediocre record and VAN haven't done much with those Alberta teams either. Huge points this weekend at stake, too bad I am about to board another damn plane to Osaka now and miss it, including SuperBowl sunday. Arrrgghh.
On another note, one of the great D's will have his number retired tonight as bone-jarring S. Stevens will see his #4 in the rafters. I am sure E. Lindros doesn't miss him one bit.

As if the NHL is not having a bad enough week, J. Theodore is tested + for propecia, a recent banned substance and confirmed by Montreal's doctor Mulder. They downplayed the incident so far but I have a feeling that the NHL drup policy officials may have another take in this and worse case scenario, Theodore would be banned in Int'l competition for 2 years.
