I think it's well known that I am an XB1 supporter. I love the console. That being said, this game is so much prettier on the PS4. Just clearer, sharper, etc. Love it.

Only 5 holes in but you gotta try Pinehurst #2 if you haven't already. Very nice, fair, challenging course. Gorgeous course. Whoever designed it did a great job. Donald Ross would be proud. The country club 5 minutes from my house is a Donald Ross design so I have a soft spot for his courses. Trying to beat Merace's +2 right now :)

Shot a +4 74 and worked my ass off for it! Must have been a great round to get your 72 Merace. I saw you bogeyed #18. Damn good round. Thoroughly enjoyable course. By far my favorite to date.

Not with a full shot. If you have what the game considers an approach shot (I think it's anything less than 75 yards), you can move the yellow aiming marker of the green fringe and hole, and it will tell you the yardage to the marker. If you click to view #4 (the highest swing camera view) it allows you to get a better angle for what you're trying to do. I have done this on occasion, but I then switch back to view #3 for swinging.

No, not specifically for DSP. We tried one about six weeks ago, but we only had two participants. I still don't think there's enough interest in it here to warrant one, even after the patch, and now the recent, game-changing update. There might be 6 to 8 active XB1 version gamers here. I play the XB1 version maybe 30% of the time, PS4 - 60%, and PC -10% (mostly just to gauge relative frame rates using FRAPS).

One cool think about the XB1 version, post update, is it just has an inexplicable new play quality about it now. If they can get it to 900p, as I'm pretty sure they eventually will, I can see it getting equal time on my HDTV with the PS4 version.

Pinehurst #2 and Killebrew Folly came out this same day this week and they are now my #1 and #2 courses for The Golf Club. I would like to see a version of this same Pinehurst #2 course that plays a tougher, one with firmer greens perhaps? This one plays just a wee bit soft and/or slow, IMO. I've shot 64's on both the PS4 and XB1 versions that would have been 70's on the Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 version with the fastest green setting. There's a fine line here though that just going up one speed or firmness in The Golf Club might make Pinehurst #2 unplayable, at least on some holes.

Thank you Jc.
Only played 2 rounds so far and am enjoying it and learning how some things work. Graphics are literally rough around the edges i'd hate to have seen it before the update geez.
Has the thing with the swing not registering 100% been fixed? it seemed my first round it was relatively easy to hit 100% swing every time but my next round seemed like i was getting a lot of 95% shots.

I hope you've tried it with the Follow Camera set to "OFF". I find it much more immersive to view the shot from my golfer's perpsective and the then switch to Follow camera (press the "A" button to switch) at a point of my choosing, late into the shot. I think the game looked worse, overall, after the patch than it did at launch. This update, especially with the option to turn off Depth of Field was a big improvement. It still has a ways to go in the graphics resolution and frame rate department, although there are now plenty more playable courses on the XB1 after the 15 to 20% frame rate improvement it saw with this update.

I've taken my PC version of this game and viewed it at 720p and then 900p on my 55" HDTV on which I'm playing the XB1 and PS4 versions. It's astounding how much difference that jump makes in cleaning up the appearance. HBS has a stated goal to get the XB1 version up to 900p. The way they're progressing with the new XB1 SDK, I'm confident they'll get there.

This can vary from course to course, based on frame rates. Honestly, on some of the courses that have faster frame rates, I find it's easier to fall back on the slowed down swings you HAVE to use to cause the golfer to make contact with the ball on laggy courses like Ross Hollow. Generally though, I'm usually able to attribute my sub-100% swings something that didn't feel right in my swing. The opinions on this vary though...

Followed your ghost and ended up with a +1. You're right about getting a workout. Boy those greens were buttery slippery. Along a swirling wind of 11-12mph I never knew where my shots would land and even when they landed on the green it would sail long to the rough typical of Pinehurst.

Loved it though.

You should have no problem beating my score of 72 after playing this course a few more times.

I'm getting better at the game since I'm not having the 92-94% power on full shots problem since the update. 8)

playing against Hogz and Diablo at black brook i never new you played against the actual character thought it was just the ball , very cool.
BUT i think Ramjagg is involved in this game for Diablo as on the first hole he parred it and it gave him a birdie and he is blasting 2 ft putts by the hole by like 10ft
Hogz is just playing a solid round.
Am i right in thinking it may take the overall round score and randomize where the birdies or bogeys came from or is it an exact replica of the round they played?

 Diablo do you remember blasting short putts by the hole ? probably from one of your first rounds maybe?

Cant wait to play a live round with you guys who needs NHL this is the perfect hang out and have a laugh game.

Can all who have it post their gamer tags if you know im not on your friends list please even if it means for more ghosts to play.

My tag is "The Deicide"

J_Cauthen - how come when I play some courses my PS4 sounds like it's going to take flight? It's like a revving sound but it doesn't use a disk so not sure what it is.

is that dangerous? would it cause overheating and kill the system?

No, according to Sony, no harm to the PS4 at all. Don't hear this on mine....

Happens on ANY course for me. Only game I own that does it. I saw the threads on the official forums where the devs said this doesn't happen on their systems, and followed that up with the comment that Sony wouldn't have approved it if it would harm the system. They either develop in an igloo or aren't telling the truth. Bugs the crap out of me. I don't like to have to turn up game sound to cover the sound of the system fan. I'm sure it's a stress on the system and components to some extent...

I read the official forums too and some other forums and you're right, it stresses the system out since it uses all the components. Nobody has reported that their system has broke because of the game though. But ya , it's scary. I wonder if this happens on XBO as well? So far only PC/PS4 I've seen it reported.

I don't play this game maybe more than 45min to an hour so I think it should be ok. But say you're playing 2-3 hours, who knows. $400 system put at risk by a $40 game?

And I'm certainly not trying to stir up trouble. In the end, I trust Sony's criteria for game acceptance. That said, if they are pushing the graphics chip that hard it sure would be nice to see nicer shadows from trees around the green. :?

I don't understand how a golf game would stress a system today. Fifteen years ago the Links game played and looked great on my old PC.

Are you guys serious w this fan nonsense? If the system gets to a certain temp the fan speeds up...lots of reasons for this. Ambient room temp...location of the console (closed vs open vs airflow)...and then...load on the system from the game itself.

It's fine. It'll be fine. Simple thermal properties dictate the speed of the fans.
