It also didn't hurt that Mario told him that if he did any more stupid stuff he would be without a job on the Pens.pk500 wrote:Another example of the irrational sliding scale of NHL justice.toonarmy wrote:Gotta wonder if Shanny is feeling the heat from all the criticism in the media and from fans over his leniency. The NHL needs to SLAM each and every one of these offenders, regardless of injury, prior offenses or the status of the series. Then players will change their ways.
Matt Cooke is a perfect example. He was one of the league's most notorious head-hunters, like Torres. Then he was suspended the last 10 games of the regular season and for the first round of the playoffs -- which the Pens lost -- last year for his brutal hit on the Rangers' Ryan McDonagh. From what I've read, and Pens' fans can support or refute this, Cookie felt he really let the team down by missing the playoffs and vowed to change his ways.
Guess what? He did. Cooke had 44 PIM's this season compared with more than 100 each of the last three seasons. Yet he's still a physical, effective player.

I guess the Penguins aint ready to go just yet.....7-3.
Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
As bizarre as it sounds, after that lengthy suspension Cookie did change his game.
And this is not a playoffs hockey game anymore, Pens will survive one more day, one hopes that nobody gets injured now as both teams practice with their special teams.

Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
Bryz getting pulled maybe gets in his head for the rest of the series? I can see this coming down to a game 7 now.

Much of this depends on the idiots in stripes. I have zero confidence in gary's kids.10spro wrote: one hopes that nobody gets injured now as both teams practice with their special teams.
Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
Switched back to the OTT-NYR game. It's 2-2, after a pissed poor start by the Sens and hearing a load full from the coach, the home team is alive and crowding Kings Lundqvist' crease more. Tight one going.

Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
good gut check by pitt. i'm turning over the NYR too. i dont think philly is coming back tonight.
Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
9-3 in the second. Are you kidding me?
Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
Well thats a good bet. At 9-3 they only need 7 unanswered to win.Lancer wrote:good gut check by pitt. i'm turning over the NYR too. i dont think philly is coming back tonight.
Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
Already without Alfredsson, Spezza was checked in the head and gone probably for the game. Big loss to say the least, the Rangers just stopped skating it seems.

Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
Only bad thing for Pitt tonight is maybe they're using all their goals up for the rest of the series.
This period has been great for MAF, not many shots his way.

Which is a bit hypocritical considering all of the thuggery the Pens have inflicted during this first round.toonarmy wrote:It also didn't hurt that Mario told him that if he did any more stupid stuff he would be without a job on the Pens.
Think Mario will read the same riot act to Neal? Of course not: Neal scored 40 goals this year.
Plus Mario whined left and right about head-hunting last year in the NHL when Crosby was hurt. Yet his players have been running Flyers' players in the head and Adam's apple during this series.
Mario is just as complicit as Shanahan in the hip-deep hypocrisy and lack of logic in the NHL.

Good news for the Sens as Spezza seems to be fine. Anderson has taken a couple of pages from Lundqvist in the 3rd.

Wow great win by the Sens. Exciting!
Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
BC boy K. Turris with the OT winner in OTT. Good comeback for the Sens.
Close game so far in LA, but I am disappointed at how the 'Nucks started the game. There's no urgency at all, too complacent letting he Kings carry the play so far. You won't see the high scoring fest in this game.

Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
What the hell was that Raymond? You Sir needed to step big time tonight and you let Kopitar skate by. Disappointing. Someone tell the 'Nucks they are down in this series 3-0.
Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
Ott has done well against NYR in the regular season, so it's no surprise this series is 2-2. It's hard to believe NYR will lose the series though with Lunqvist in net.
Kings off to a good start, 1-0. LA will have a nice long rest if they pull this one off. Not sure if that is a good thing or not, though. A long layoff could cool them off some.

Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
If it wasn't for Schneider the score could easily be 3-0 for the Kings.

Best Kings period of the series by far . That means nothing in this series. How can there even be a question is the right goalie in for Canucks Schneider has been unbelievable in both games so far.
Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
Yeah, and not that Luongo was to blame for the first two games of the series. But win or lose, GM M. Gillis will have an interesting summer ahead as to what to do with a Bobby Lou if he's not to be the 'Nucks #1 stopper.Jimmydeicide wrote:Best Kings period of the series by far . Agreed it was just for a change in momentum wasnt it? Put Luongo back in please im much more confident Kings will score when hes in net, not with Schneider now i know how you feel with the way Quick is playing.10spro wrote:Yeah, and not that Luongo was to blame for the first two games of the series.
