So...
$499 for a retina display iPad 3
$399 for a iPad 2
$349 for a refurbished iPad 2
Good luck selling those $300+ Android tabs.

DB this sh*t is your expertise. For a non iPad owner would you suggest an iPad2 or HD?

Not that you asked me, but I think the $100 difference ain't enough to not get the HD iPad.Rodster wrote:DB this sh*t is your expertise. For a non iPad owner would you suggest an iPad2 or HD?

Re: IPhone/ITouch/IPad Game App Thread
Not even close, the new one. The resolution alone will be a hellova lot nicer for web browsing and reading. That's the one thing that irritates me about the iPad 2 I currently have...the resolution. There are so many better screens on Android tablets so I always am wanting those, but work only supports iOS so I have to live with it. Hell, my Galaxy Nexus has a significantly higher res screen than the iPad and it's 5 inches smaller! The new one will be so much better in that regard. Plus it's a little quicker. So spend the 100 bucks extra for the screen...without a doubt it's worth the price.Rodster wrote:DB this sh*t is your expertise. For a non iPad owner would you suggest an iPad2 or HD?

Rod...look at the macro shot on this page. That is where your 100 bucks goes.

Still only 100 dollars difference. 32gb iPad 2 is $629...new iPad $729. $200 only if you got the 16gb version of the iPad 2.Rodster wrote:Make that $200 cause i'll be getting the 32GB model.
Just ordered two 32gb At&t versions.

Re: IPhone/ITouch/IPad Game App Thread
I read that the pricing for the new iPad HD will be $499 (16) $599 (32) $699 (64). Is that correct?

First...it's not called the iPad HD. So the price will be 100 bucks cheaper for each version of the iPad 2.Rodster wrote:I read that the pricing for the new iPad HD will be $499 (16) $599 (32) $699 (64). Is that correct?
Second, those prices are for the wifi only models. The model with the At&t or Verizon LTE built in adds $129 to each.
Re: IPhone/ITouch/IPad Game App Thread
Yeah I forgot about the 3G model. I just want wifi so that works for me.

Re: IPhone/ITouch/IPad Game App Thread
Why AT&T instead of Verizon LTE? I thought you were a Verizon guy?
Besides the screen Rodster, it's got better SOC.
So now, it's got the same 4 GPU cores as the Vita. Of course, we don't know how much RAM or what clock speed but it means hardware-wise, this New iPad (stupid name) is as fast or faster than the Vita. Of course, since the OS does many other things, it has more overhead than the Vita OS.
That and the resolution is much higher, so developers can make games with higher resolution or render at lower resolution and use more effects and filtering such as AA. They now have the keynote video up and the games they demo'd looked pretty good, though they may have stuttered in some places. But they said the developers didn't have long time to work with the new hardware.
I'm hesitating on preordering right now (for one thing, I haven't been able to load the online store page) because of the way they branded the A5X chip and the New iPad. There are rumors about an A6 chip later in a newer iPad. A5X makes it sound like half the step that they planned to take. But regardless of when you buy, there will always be better thing next year.

Re: IPhone/ITouch/IPad Game App Thread
At&t LTE because of my area of Los Angeles. I'm right between Calabasas (the northern most part of LA County) and Santa Barbara. Basically a dead spot for LTE in Southern California. I don't expect it to be updated or expanded anytime soon...since it's probably only like 5 or 6 towers that cover the entire area (around 75 miles). So yeah...At&t's HSPA+ is much faster than Verizon's 3G...plus, we have repeater At&t towers at the two hospitals I work at so the coverage inside each building is quite a bit better. If I was in a place with great Verizon LTE coverage, no doubt I'd have ordered that, but given the fact that work paid for the device, I should probably get the one that works the best at work.

Freakin' Apple issued me two 32 GB Wifi models when I only wanted one! What a pain in the arse it was to go through the ordering process, but at least I don't have to stand in line next Friday.

Just hope the demand is really high and you'll be able to flip it on ebay and make a little money. Odds are in your favor.sportdan30 wrote:Freakin' Apple issued me two 32 GB Wifi models when I only wanted one! Re: IPhone/ITouch/IPad Game App Thread
I was able to cancel one of them thankfully online. Tried calling but obviously their call volume is through the roof. I'm glad I checked my account as I thought I wouldn't be charged until it shipped.dbdynsty25 wrote:Just hope the demand is really high and you'll be able to flip it on ebay and make a little money. On another note, I'm surprised at the negativity from many people (vocal minority I suppose from macrumors) who are not exactly happy with the new Ipad specs.

Re: IPhone/ITouch/IPad Game App Thread
Looks like that is what happened to me. I tried to order from my phone with the Apple Store app when i was at work and didnt think it went thru when it actually did. Then I ordered on my pc when I got home. Just got two separate order confirmation emails. I simply cancelled the one and kept the other.dbdynsty25 wrote:Just hope the demand is really high and you'll be able to flip it on ebay and make a little money. Crap now I can't pull the trigger on buying one. I rarely use my tablets with the exception of the Kindle Fire, just seems like i'm blowing money if I buy one.
Re: IPhone/ITouch/IPad Game App Thread
Well I get no signal on the AT&T iPhone downstairs in the home, so I may try VZ.dbdynsty25 wrote:At&t LTE because of my area of Los Angeles. But looks like VZ doesn't have a $15 option like AT&T does. Only $30 and up. I thought they said that both supports EVDO and HSPA+ as 3G, the only difference would be the LTE bands. Wonder if that would mean that you can get a VZ iPad and use AT&T 3G on it, though you'd probably need an AT&T SIM.

That's true of just about every Apple product launch. The rumors get always ahead of what's likely or even technically feasible at the time. The technophiles slag on the actual product because it's never as good as the rumors but then the product sells like crazy.sportdan30 wrote: On another note, I'm surprised at the negativity from many people (vocal minority I suppose from macrumors) who are not exactly happy with the new Ipad specs.
That was the case with the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S and it'll be the case next year too.
I will say though that the timing is bad for chips because the next generation of ARM and SGX graphics chips are due later this year or next year. So this new iPad has the same ARM CPU and the same IMG SGX GPU cores (though 4 cores instead of 2). And it appears they may have doubled the RAM, so that could mean better performance with Safari, especially multiple tabs.
But still, you are ending up with same CPU and GPU as the Vita, with possibly more RAM and with a much higher resolution screen. It'll be interesting to see the final releases of the games they showed. Looked good but looks like there were some moments of slowdown.
Re: IPhone/ITouch/IPad Game App Thread
Outside of the retina display, I don't think there's much to the iPad 3. I didn't expect much but I thought they would have one or two features that distinguish the iPad 3 more. I don't there is.wco81 wrote:That's true of just about every Apple product launch. The rumors get always ahead of what's likely or even technically feasible at the time.
