Yeah i'll be happy when I can buy a PS3 for $299, that's my goal.sportdan30 wrote:And if they came out with a $200 price cut, then you would say they really need a $300 price cut.Rodster wrote:The PS3 in reality needs a $200 price cut. Only then, will sales surge for the PS3. I expect Microsoft to counter with a price cut of their own.

There losing there ass at $600 but since they're not selling they have no choice but to drop the price so at least they can keep the game companies happy. A $100 price drop will help a little but if MS counters with a $100 of their own then it's back to square one for Sony.sportdan30 wrote:I do agree a $200 price cut would really boost sales, but they gotta be losing their shirt big time just by reducing it by a $100.
I gotta think $299 will be the going rate in 2-3 years.
I read a headline today that Microsoft is spending (has spent?) $1 Billion (with a "B") on 360 repairs, so I'm not really sure who's losing their shirts more. Hopefully someone other than EA is making money because I'm loving the current state of gaming and would hate to see any of the Big 3 (Sony, MS & Nintendo) leave the console market like Sega did.

I do agree the lack of the games is frusturating. However, for me personally I do not need a handful of A+ games all at once. I'm quite content with MLB. Actually, it allows me to concentrate on one game rather than buying the next best game. I think it all boils down to the particular gamer and how much time he wants to devote to the hobby.10spro wrote:$100 dollars cut would get a lot of gamers on the fence looking for the PS3. But it is still about the games. Other than MLB 07, F1 and Resistance, I am still looking for a better library. Let's put it this way, I have more BR movies than games.
I'm not worried about the lack of games. Sony will deliver. It's whether or not you have the patience to wait.

Same here.
Plus, you can still get so many good games for the PS2 at cheap prices.
I went ahead and bought Maximo for $3 at EB a couple of days ago. Now I can finally dedicate myself to finish it.
Rented God of war and it looked great pretty good with the PS3 upconvertion feature. I may end up buying it too.
So what's your stance on the next 3 sports games (NCAA, Madden, and NFL 2k8) coming out at double the framerate on the 360 compared to the ps3?sportdan30 wrote:I do agree the lack of the games is frusturating. It's probably a moot point for me since my third X360 is about to bite the dust. I'll keep the console through the 3 year warranty but I may not invest in many new games.MizzouRah wrote:So what's your stance on the next 3 sports games (NCAA, Madden, and NFL 2k8) coming out at double the framerate on the 360 compared to the ps3?
Has Madden or NCAA ever been 60 fps? What games are 60 fps right now? It's not like I've got a framerate counter in the corner of the screen. I find it hard that anyone can have a stance until they've played both or at least read some reviews/impressions from those that have. I have no problem with picking up the 360 version if the gameplay is significantly better, but I just don't have enough information right now.

Todd,
My stance on the PS3 football games was initially disbelief. Then anger, and now disappointment. However, until I play each one for myself, I can't completely form an opinion. It's quite possible the framerate might not be too noticeable, but then again it might.
I guess my question to you is, how happy are you about MLB 2K7? From your postings, it seems like you're quite content with the game. That game certainly is not as buttery smooth as The Show on the PS3. However, it really doesn't kill your enjoyment of 2K7, does it?

No, but if it was at 60 fps and buttery smooth on the ps3, I wouldn't be happy. Don't get me wrong, I don't think it will make you throw the controller through your TV, but it would be disappointing and have me considering a 360.sportdan30 wrote:Todd,

That's the one thing I liked NHL 2k7 over NHL 07, was how smooth it played at 60 fps vs the 30 fps NHL 07 plays at. There's definitly a difference.

I hope everyone realizes this is not a Sony price cut and just an alleged Circuit City sale. Retailers have so many PS3 sitting in inventory they are just trying to move some.
But from what I have read this is not a PS3 price cut from the mothership unless the story changes in a week.

Yes, Sony is denying a price cut, but two things make me skeptical...
First, aren't there usually significant restrictions on resellers dropping price on consoles? Bundles and pack-ins I can understand but this appears to be an out-and-out "price break" (usually permanent for CC) as per the circular.
Second, the timing of this to follow E3 is hard to ignore.
I suppose it's conceivable that CC is acting on its own here, but you would think it would chafe SCEA that CC either stole their thunder *or* created an embarrassing situation as a major retailer takes it upon itself to significantly discount a piece of hardware in the wake of the biggest industry trade show.

The only 'evidence' is the CC flyers, but the rumor is the cut will be enacted everywhere.Danimal wrote:I hope everyone realizes this is not a Sony price cut and just an alleged Circuit City sale. Retailers have so many PS3 sitting in inventory they are just trying to move some.

A PS3 price cut rumor spread like wildfire across the Internet this afternoon when several sites spotted a new advertisement from Circuit City. The ad as seen on Kotaku lists the PS3 console at $499.99, $100 less than its current price.
It wasn't clear at first if this ad was a special deal specific to the electronics retailer or if it's indeed a retail-wide price cut instituted by Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA). As it turns out, a merchandising manager (who wished to remain anonymous) at one of the world's biggest retailers has confirmed to GameDaily BIZ that the price drop is indeed retail-wide and it's scheduled to take place on July 12, although the first wave of ads to promote the PS3's new price won't kick in until Sunday, July 15.

Not saying the linked site or its source is particularly credible, (nor do I believe that Sony's denials are, either
MS can easily afford to wait until right before the holiday season to make a price cut. Their console is STILL $100 cheaper than the PS3, plus it's got the great library of games.Danimal wrote:Well if it really is a retail wide cut and MS doesn't follow suit, they are in some serious trouble.
