Anyone see any good deals on a PS4 Pro. I've been searching but don't see anything.

It's not 4K for games, only for 4K Blu Ray, right?

Correct. Well, streaming 4k too Netflix and the other usual suspects offer 4 k content.

make sure the Netflix and other streaming apps are updated and support 4K. I think right now only the apps on my KS8000 support 4K streaming, unless I'm mistaken.

I'd be wary about using apps. on TVs. Notorious for spying, like active mics. Vizio and Samsung are especially bad.

But for another year or two, the only way to get 4K HDR streams may be through those apps. since they want to showcase the TV's features.

The set top boxes should catch up though. I think Roku already has a 4K box and Apple is supposedly upgrading theirs to 4K.

So Xbox One S, Scorpio and PS4 Pro should be good options, though they may not have all the streaming services.

Waiting for the new season of House of Cards to resubscribe to Netflix. Was hoping the youtube app on the Xbox One S would support 4k but looks like it doesn't, it's a pain navigating the youtube app with the tv remote control. Ghost Recon looks a lot better with HDR. Will check out Blu Ray upscale sometime this week, now they just need to release all the Star Wars movies on UHD.

I found most games look better on the XB1s then on the regular Xbox, whatever upscaling they are doing makes it look better. I'm buying a PS4Pro today for Horizon tomorrow so we'll see.

As in, it's not an XB1? As in, games aren't Xbox One compatible? Or PS4 to PS4 Pro?

Supposedly, all games must be compatible with both.

So it probably means that they'll develop the game for the old system, and then simply boost resolution or eye candy for the Scorpio version--similar to what they do now on PS4 Pro through game patches.

Teal keep in mind no one knows when it is coming out officially. If E3 comes and they don't do a big thing on it, no way it come out anytime soon.

I sure hope so. One of the only reasons I went ahead and got a system now was because I was under the impression that the Scorpio was just a beefed up XB1, like the PS4 Pro. In that case, I don't care. But I'd read that the Scorpio was coming at the end of this year, possibly, and that it was a completely new console. I just don't want to have bought a brand new condo to learn that it's being vacated for a newer condo...lol.

Oh, it's a beefed up XBox One. But, like...from a slim jim to a T-Bone steak type of beefing up.

They'll throw out all sorts of terms like teraflops and how much the console can actually push--and the PS4 Pro dwarfs the Xbox One (and XB1 S), and the Scorpio's raw power will dwarf the PS4 Pro...allegedly. Nobody knows for sure yet, but they know the basic nuts and bolts inside of it. But how they allocate the memory, what they reserve for the OS, etc...nobody knows.

But bottom line, it will still be an XBox One. Same games. It's always up to developers to prove how far they can push it. Look at Naughty Dog with the PS3 and The Last of Us. Which, even on the outgoing console, looked better than most PS4 games for quite some time.

Xbox One is under 2 TF. PS4 Pro is around 4 TF. Scorpio is suppose to be about 6 TF.

MS boasted that Scorpio will have "real" 4K games whereas PS4 Pro depends on checkerboard rendering and other workarounds than fully rendering in 4K resolution.

Actually the PS4 and X1 didn't even render in 1080p in most cases.

There is some skepticism about games using 4K resolution, because developers would have to trade off more effects and filtering for higher resolution. There's a good chance they will render games at greater than 1080p but scale up for 4K TVs.

Even next generation, which could be 2019 or 2020, may not fully render in 4K.

As long as that's all it is, cool. I just didn't want to be left holding the proverbial bag. My fear was more along the traditional track of "wait, I just GOT this Xbox, and there's about to be an Xbox 360?" As long as I can still play whatever game online with DSP buds, I'm fine. Hell, if they'd have done that between the 360 and the XB1, I probably would still be playing the 360...lol

Microsoft claims it is taking the smartphone/tablet approach. All games work on all systems going forward. You can play the same games on an iPhine 5 as you can on an iPhone 7. Of, course, they don't run the same. I would imagine games will have settings to target specs. But all games should be playable online together, too.

The issue is, Scorpio is a massive jump. I do think they are trying to jumpstart a new generation. And when Sony puts out the PS5, MS will refresh Scorpio to match or exceed the specs of the PS5. Their hope is that they can keep gamers in their ecosystem and then slowly build it up.

You are not wrong to be concerned. But I don't think we will know anything concrete even when Scorpio launches. It will take a couple of years to shake out.

There was also the rumor in January circling that Scorpio will actually bump up to 8 TF.

Regardless, unless developers learn how to harness it, it's all just numbers. I know my ridiculously powerful PC struggles to maintain 4K on many games at good framerates (I only want to run near 60 FPS), so unless consoles can manage to squeeze in a pair of 8GB GTX 1080s, I doubt that's happening any time soon.

I realize the target with consoles always seems to be 30 FPS, but if the Scorpio is a consistent platform and pushing 8TF, I could see them hitting 4K at 30FPS in native.

Supposedly (we'll find out tonight!) the checkerboard rendering that Guerilla used in Horizon Zero Dawn is the most amazing thing that DigitalFoundry had ever seen, *almost* matching pixel-for-pixel against native displays. So when Developers learn the engine and know what they're doing (helps that Guerilla built their own engine that Kojima then licensed for Death Stranding), they're capable of some pretty amazing things. But a system is only as good as its games, which are only as good as the people who make them

I don't have to see anyone else's graphics, TV's, or any of that, so still, that'd be fine. But I had a 360 for nearly a decade. If I get left behind after a year? Oooh...buddy...

That's always the worry if you buy in late. On the plus side, I paid $500 and dealt with all of the issues MS ironed out before you jumped on board. You spent a lot less on a One S, while I still have the original. To be honest, the reason I never got the One S was that I wanted to see Scorpio first. So I don't get to see the extra purty FH3 or access to the UHD player.

Electronics is always that game. No matter what you buy there is always something better coming soon. Hopefully Scorpio plays nice with the One S in MP titles, and you can choose to upgrade when it fits your schedule. PS4 Pro owners may run into the same issue, and there is zero word that they will be adopting Microsoft's strategy. And I truly believe Microsoft wants to force Sony to jump to the PS5 much sooner than they are ready. They are not interested in watching the PS4 obliterate the PS2 records and lasting for so long.

In that regard, Scorpio really is a new gen. Microsoft is just trying to do it on a bit more customer friendly terms. They thought XBL was enough of a tie-in to keep their customers in their ecosystem. With Scorpio they are expanding that to all of your games. Scorpio will be running all of those 360 games that are BC, too.

Besides, I suspect Scorpio is gong to run $500. some people are claiming $400. If it's $400, then it will definitely be a new generation. If it's $500, it is just a placeholder for the next gen. I don't think you were going to spring for a $500 Scorpio. So getting the One S now means you get more time with that console, while you wait to see when the right time to upgrade is for you. And likely, they might mean waiting until the PS5 launches.

And at that point, depending on how the game play and such, you could jump into the Scorpio 1 for much less, and get basically the same console as the Scorpio 2. It's like folks that stay one gen back on iPhone. You avoid the bugs, the premium price, and still get a console that plays all the same games and resides in the same ecosystem as those that paid more.

I really have no idea how well this will play out for MS. It could be a massive crash and burn, and we will all be buying PS5s.

This is a good sign, Teal.

In the coming days, Middle-earth: Shadow of War will be available for digital pre-order on both the Xbox Store and Windows Store. As an Xbox Play Anywhere title, if you purchase a digital version of Middle-earth: Shadow of War on either the Xbox Store or Windows Store, you will automatically have access to the game on both Xbox One and Windows 10 at launch – and for Project Scorpio at its launch this holiday season – at no additional cost.

That's what I want to see. The only game I should not be able to play on my Xbox One is a PlayStation exclusive. LOL
