Flyers Rangers again today. Man, a win would go a long way for my scuffling Flyers.

Wow...ugly 7-0 loss. Take the belt and shoelaces from the "typical" Philly fans.Diablo25 wrote:Flyers Rangers again today. Man, a win would go a long way for my scuffling Flyers.

What the f*** was that.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Corey Schneider has been backing up R. Luongo admirably this season and the only thing that was missing in his resume was a SO in his young NHL career. With his impeccable play not only he accomplishes that tonight, but also helps Canucks sweep SO CAL in blanking the Ducks 3-0 after dethroning the Kings yesterday.
More importantly, they finally won back to back games in about a month and showed some emotion that was sorely lacking in their recent home games and so far the current five game road trip is what they just needed.

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Kovalchuk continues to be amazing. A goal and a SO goal yesterday to give the Devils yet another win. It would be some kind of comeback if the Devils can make the playoffs. They are still a ways out, but within striking distance if they can remain hot. Both the East and West are getting very interesting now. I love this time of the year in the NHL leading up to the playoffs.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
It's an amazing race, especially in the west. You're right about the Devils, they're a far chance at making it but if they do reach the final spot, you get that feeling that no team wants to face them in the playoffs. Kudos for Lemaire for turning them around.toonarmy wrote: It would be some kind of comeback if the Devils can make the playoffs. Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
NJ is 8 points out with 17 games left to play. I keep waiting for them to come back down to earth. I agree about not wanting to meet them in the playoffs. Not only are they hot as hell right now, but their style could give a lot of teams trouble in the playoffs.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Match of the day: Habs-Bruins. Another brouhaha coming?
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
I'll definitely be watching this one. Habs are trying to play catchup to the Bruins and the Bruins have been pretty hot as of late. I think it will be an intense game to be for sure. Hell, we also have San Jose vs Nashville and Vancouver vs Phoenix -- what a great night of hockey. Thank goodness all three games are staggered somewhat because I want to see all three.10spro wrote:Match of the day: Habs-Bruins. Another brouhaha coming?
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
I am pretty sure Canucks will be playing their last game in PHO. What a mess. Thanks Bettman for dragging them along for another year.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
So who wins the Hart this year? Sedin, Thomas, or Stamkos? Pretty interesting year for the Hart since a goalie is putting up ridiculous numbers.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
It'll probably go the distance again. Stamkos has been cooling down, while AO has been tearing it up lately. Sedins as usual in their nonchalant ways are steady and Daniel has found his scoring touch lately.toonarmy wrote:So who wins the Hart this year? Sedin, Thomas, or Stamkos? Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Division titles dont mean s***. They never have.
For the Habs....
Hope to avoid injury. Get points( at least one) and get tp the playoffs without anymore injuries.
Hart trophy. I know Im dreaming cause its all about scoring but if the Hawks stay red hot and go into the playoffs that way it would be really cool if the award for most valuable to his team went to the player most valuable to his team. Toews.

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
I think I just cursed the Hawks. They are getting clubbed 3-0 in the first.
Early lead and a fight for the Habs. Only 44 minutes to go

Habs laying an asswhoopin on Boston. Shocking that Rask is in instead of Thomas.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
I know Chara isnt a goon but that was terrible.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
I don't think there was any evil intention on his part. The refs made the right call though for the game misconduct. According to the Habs website, Pacioretty is conscious and has limited movement. Scary.XXXIV wrote:I know Chara isnt a goon but that was terrible.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
I know he wasnt trying to kill him but he didnt have to do that. He wanted to. It was wreckless and without regard for anything.10spro wrote:I don't think there was any evil intention on his part. It was good to hear that Pacioretty is conscious. Lets hope he gets well without any lasting problems.
Sighs..............
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
That was some scary stuff. It looked really bad when the guy was nonresponsive the whole time on the ice. Chara has always struck me as a gentle giant who never throws cheap shots. I think it's just a case of a player getting hit in a bad way by a strong dude. I will be shocked if Chara does not get suspended, though, despite the fact he really didn't do anything suspendable according to the letter of the law. It's not a good time in the NHL to nearly kill a guy, intentional or not.
BTW, just saw Chara's comments after the game and he is very apologetic and says he in no way intended to hurt the guy. Seems like a matter of an unfortunate incident. If Cooke did this just imagine the uproar lol.

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
As good as their record has been, Canucks haven't been able to get a victory after trailing in the 1st period as they were in PHO. Both teams had good chances, Yotes of course are fighting for their lives these days off and on the ice but they fell short in the end as VAN played another strong road game and ended winning 4-3 in OT. 'Nucks are in the middle of a five game road trip but they've been feeling as if they were playing at home with all the support of 'Nucks nation which is well and lively as the fans just came in bunches in their recent trip to So-Cal and tonight in Phoenix.

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
I agree. Chara was just trying to finish his check. But he's a hell of a lot bigger than most NHL players, and I think Chara's mass just carried Pacioretty into the turnbuckle. This isn't Trevor Gillies or Matt Cooke territory.10spro wrote:I don't think there was any evil intention on his part. The refs made the right call though for the game misconduct. Scary, scary aftermath, though. Hope Pacioretty is OK.

I agree with this mostly.
The check was not legal, hence the penalty.
Just like a player is responsible for his stick, he is ressponsible for his mass. That was once again reckless and without any regard for the other player.
Hopefully there will be a suspension of some kind. Id hate the message that is sent to be that as long as you have been mostly clean most of your career that you get one free shot at decapating another player.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
I don't see much intent or recklessness by Chara. It was just a freak play. It's not like Chara should just let him go and get a possible breakaway because there was a tiny chance of a freak devastating injury. Any other spot on the rink it's just a nothing rub-out interference penalty.
Honestly reminds me of Randy Jones hit on Bergeron. Now the shoe is on the other foot for Boston fans who wanted to crucify Randy Jones.
1-3 games suspension. Any more just isn't justified IMO. You judge the actions of the player, not the injury result.
Also reminiscent of Bryan Marchment having seizures on the ice when he was clipped from the side in a similar fashion and went head first into the open penalty box door. Youtube let me down on finding a video of that one.

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
I agree with Bergeron's conclusion here, just interesting to hear from it a guy who wouldn't accept Randy Jones personal apology on a similar play. All a matter of perspective...Boston's Patrice Bergeron, who has suffered two documented concussions in his NHL career, called it a "flukey play."
"He [Chara] just tried to buy himself some time and kind of push him out of the way and his head got caught," said Bergeron, who missed the majority of the 2007-08 season due to a concussion.

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
I know I'm the biggest moaner about head shots in this forum, but I disagree with you, man. Chara didn't hit Pacioretty from behind. He didn't drive his head into the turnbuckle. He delivered a clean check on the boards, and the combination of Chara's mass and the direction in which both players were skating caused Pacioretty to hit the turnbuckle.XXXIV wrote:Just like a player is responsible for his stick, he is ressponsible for his mass. It was a freak, scary play, as Naples said. Nothing more.
This hit doesn't deserve a suspension. But Chara will be banned in the wacky world of Colin Campbell. Meanwhile, Crosby may not play again this season and may never be the same player due to two head shots caused by hits from behind within a week. Steckel wasn't penalized for the first hit, and Hedman received a two-minute minor for the second one.
Makes perfect sense in today's NHL. I don't even know why I bother caring about this league anymore.
