Might be worth mentioning Best Buy has a deal this weekend if you buy a Sony HDTV and I think 1 game and 1 BlueRay you get a PS3 for free basically.
You're going to see a lot more of these bundles as Sony tries to move their surpluss inventory and I bet a better deal is coming shortly. But it's begining.

It's been said, but blu-ray is just so freakin' cool! I watched only a little bit of The Prestige last night, but it looks absolutely amazing. I just have to figure out to get my surround sound working now.
I really feel like I'm in gaming heaven with MLB The Show and movie heaven with blu-ray.
On a side note, Netflix's delivery is fast as heck! I guess there's a sub station here in St. Louis, so it only takes one day for them to receive my movie back, and another day to receive a new returned to me. Unfortunately, the 4.99 deal only allows for 2 movies per month. That's kinda weak, but two blu-ray rentals for $4.99 is a good deal. It's just going to be hard watching movies on dvd again.

200 new software titles along with 180 downloads for the PS3 between now and March of 2008? I'll believe it when I see it......

Router Help
I am considering getting a new wireless router for my setup. I currently have a Linksys WRT54G ver. 6.0 and it has been giving me problems with the 1.80 and 1.81 updates. Its the media server/disconnect issue that many are having. If I get a new router I want to get one that is confirmed to work with the updates. Any recommendations? Your input is appreciated.

Re: Router Help
How can you be sure that future updates 1.9, 2.0, 3.14, etc. are going to work with any new router you would buy? I would just buy the best router and prayDiablo25 wrote:If I get a new router I want to get one that is confirmed to work with the updates. Any recommendations? Your input is appreciated.

Are you sure it's the router and not the DLNA implementation on either the Sony or your PC of whichever device is serving up the media?
I hear DLNA is a very immature standard so companies are almost on their own, pioneering different techniques and features.
It's too bad they don't support Zeroconf (what Apple calls Bonjour) as an alternative since there Bonjour is installed with every iTunes copy.

I'm not sure what DNLA is, or how to tell whether the problem is with the router or something else. All I know is I'm able to stay connected just fine with a wired connection, but when I switch it to wireless, it times out after 10 seconds or so, then it will log back in, log out, etc. I just switch it over to the wired connection and I'm fine, but it defeats the purpose of streaming from my laptop.
I have not had any problems with my wireless router and PS3, granted it is not that high end or anything - Linksys WRT54GSV4. I have also not even touched DNLA ...
I keep thinking I am going to upgrade to N-Band, but will probably wait until I get a new laptop later this summer.

Don't know how I missed this one, but this pre-release footage for "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune" is looking pretty cool.

I'm still at a loss when it comes to streaming video to the ps3. No matter what software i use (Tversity, Window media Connect, nero) the videos do not play smoothly. They play for about 2 seconds, pause for 2 seconds, play for 2 seconds. Rinse and repeat.
I don't have this issue watching videos on my 360, so I am starting to wonder if it is the wireless connection causing the issue. Because my 360 is a wired hookup and the PS3 is wireless.
Is anyone streaming videos to the PS3 without issues from a PC? Also has anyone figured out how to view / listen to your iTunes library?
Thanks

According to sources, the 1.82 update is going to add AVC-MP4-H.264 high profile and this may finally open up AVC-MP4 conversion as the main way to go. And there is better software that will write AVC-MP4-H.264 high profile at the higher bitrates and 1080p resolution.
I am connected wirelessly also and my video streaming is not any better.

If I have my PC and a PS3 in the same room, can I use a $20 Ethernet Switch to connect both devices to my Cable Modem, or do I really need to get a router?
Dynex® 5-Port 10/100 Ethernet Switch

Switch is good.
In fact, look into a Gigabit switch. I think PS3 has Gigabit ports but I'm not sure.
There are NAS units which gigabit switches so if you want to set up a media server with DLNA on an NAS, you would get max throughput between the devices through a gigabit switch.
That's more of a long-term idea though.
As for sharing your Internet connection using a switch, make sure it has a DHCP server, which all routers have. Other thing routers have is some rudimentary firewall and other security provisions.
If wireless router, get at least WPA support.
Of course, one of these days, 802.11n certified routers should come out.
