I love the voice commands for the TV, etc. That's it. I would want some kind of mic functionality to be able to to that stuff if the Kinect goes by the wayside.

10spro wrote: Never liked it since day one. I understand it can work wonders in simplicity when the voice commands works but the only command it recognizes in my house is 'Xbox turn off' and even then it's failed to do so lately.

And with the latest beta dashboard preview, the 'Cortana' message comes up here and there, even though we didn't ask Kinect for anything and Cortana is not even available yet in Canada.

Same here, it's all controller for us.
It's always worked great.. I figured it was the kinect so I tried another one and it's back to the same thing, so maybe it's the console itself which is now out of warranty. It's not like I've really had issues with any console, I'm just a little unhappy with the functionality we used quite a bit.

That is weird. The new S console drop Kinect, but puts an IR blaster on the fron of the console so that you still get the universal control stuff. I've come to grips that the Kinect will be gone soon. Still wish hey would release a standalone mic.

But last night I left TiVo paused, and when it used up its buffer the TV started blaring. I was in my office, but used Smartglass to mute the TV. I'm nowhere near ready to give up the TV integration.

What exactly is the IR blaster for? I read that there is a free adapter for the XB1S to use Kinect with one of the USB ports.

I doubt I'll get an XB1S with the Scorpio coming next holiday. I need a 4K tv first :D

It's for using the XB1 as your hub. Turn on the console, and it turns on the TV and your receiver or soundbar, and it turn everything off. Also, if you use the One Guide to channel surf, it will change the channels on your cable box/DVR.

Is Project Cars GOTY edition worth $26? That's part of Microsoft summer sale. I remember PK and several others b*tching about the controls. I don't know if they were fixed by the developer.

I would say no. Controls are still pretty touchy even with adjustments, and the online netcode is lacking.

PCars is a classic example of a PC sim ported to consoles with zero consideration for the unique elements of console gaming, such as programming controls to work with a stock controller. PCars is a pain in the ass with a controller, frankly. It's made for a wheel.

I still have PCars, but I play F1 2015, Forza 6 and DIRT Rally far more often. The only reason I still have PCars is because Best Buy only offers $3 for a trade. Might as well keep it for that meager return.

Red Dead Redemption coming to Xbox One on Friday (Xbox 360 backwards compatible). I just repurchased the game for $11 on Amazon. I never really gave the game too much play when I had it. Looking forward to playing through it this time.

Ah. Same here. Never gave it much of a chance. But can't ignore it for that price. Plus my eldest son might like it if I don't.

Can the game be purchased on the Xbox Store?

OK, thanks for the info. So they never fixed the controller issues. Oh well I may pickup Shadow of Modor GOTY for $10 instead.

You should be able to after you log in with your MS account. When you go to Xbox.com it has the summer sale splash screen so I see why not and after all, MS has been integrating the console store and Windows 10.

Not really. You can work around it with controller tweaks, but the game isn't worth the trouble. I would go with Mordor GOTY for $10 every day of the week.

So it does what the Kinect already does mninus the voice functionality.

I have no problem if the get rid of the Kinect but they should build a mic right into the console for voice functionality. Simple.

Good point! It's better to build on the graphic library assets already created by the developers rather than start over learning a new architecture.

Well as long as they used AMD chips, they were going to have fairly easy backwards compatibility, although the early word is that games optimized for Neo may not necessarily be backwards compatible with PS4, at least it won't be automatic.

My understanding is the Neo can play both but Sony never said the same for the PS4.

Since Sony doesn't have EA Access.. I think I'll stay with MS for my next console, just no more kinect.

Sticking what in the slot? The disc? Only the digital version was backward compatible, I thought...?

BC games on XB1 can be accessed if you have the disc or a digital copy. If you use the 360 disc, it will first install the game to the HD.
