LOL! road outside is like a skating rink but once off the side streets things are okay - of course I'm in Surrey and the weather is a heck of alot better here than up north. Tuesday they're forecasting heavy snow for South East England though it looks like most of it won't get any further south than London. Following day forecasting heavy rain so mid-week fixtures could certainly be fun!

Best wishes,

Doug

Newcastle played a fairly solid match today but came up on the losing end. Giving away those two extremely early goals in the first minutes of the game pretty well sunk their chances at a win. Andy Carroll continues to impress, as he headed in his 11th goal of the season. This young man is golden and I hope to goodness Fat Mike does not let him go. I can see Newcastle building the team around him for years to come. I'm sure the big boys will be knocking on Newcastle's door to lure him away if he continues to produce, though, and who knows if Fat Mike will part with him if offered enough money. It will be interesting to see how Carroll performs in the Euro 2012 qualifiers. He may very well be a major spark to the team. Capello seems high on him.

Yeh not funny anymore and i see a rule of any team making the premier league the pitches need to be updated to the under soil heating.

Efoff Blackpool back to the minors.

I enjoyed Tevez's two goals today. The second one was a bit of a fluke but great timing on the 1st slider to roof daddy the ball.

Football miss of the year, says the title of Miget's video. I respectfully disagree:

Huddersfield Town vs Hartlepool United's tasteful orange away kit on Boxing Day. I remain convinced that something somewhere in this video defies Newton's third law.

Gareth Bale is simply the best player in the world right now. He reminds of how well Ronaldo performed in his last year at Man U. Bale isn't quite as prolific but from the left, no one is better at the moment.

I should have said best = hottest. Maybe he can't sustain this but over the last month or so, he's doing some amazing things. Including two Champ league game where he took the team on his back.

Well its below freezing so if any club doesnt have a way to thaw out their pitch its going to be like concrete thats why they are being called more so than snow probably from hard ground.

I'm sure Maicon would be suprised to know that he doesn't have pace. Players with pace havent slowed down Bale, but rather players that have bodied up to him and played physical. Everton, Young Boys, and Stoke(except for Bale's lucky goal) have been the most successful against him by being rough with him. The kid to his credit doesn't dive or go down on minimal contact.

Liverpool lose a relegation 6 pointer.

I did like the chants of 'Hodgson for England' at Anfield. :)

I know your away game at Tranmere was off because of a frozen pitch - pretty much all of the lower league matches in the north-west of England seem to have been called off so I'd imagine it's the same across the region, though Dave T's your man for that one. The pitch at Hillsborough is playable but with all the frozen and burst pipes, the twin threats of Health and Safety won't let anyone in to watch a match. It's about as good as the situation here in Hartlepool, where there might be a playable pitch underneath the snow but we don't have enough space by the side of the pitch to clear it all and find out.

The thaw is well underway, though, so with luck everything should be back to normal shortly.

TBH, I've only seen highlights and Youtube videos of Gareth Bale and he looks like an extraordinary talent.

That being said, I think it might not be accurate to say he's the hottest player in the world, given the way Messi has been performing in recent times as he chases the Barca and Spanish League scoring records of the real Ronaldo.

Or maybe Messi has reached a level where he populates a different planet.

"All I can say is I think it's time for people to really try to help us along because it's not through want of trying that we're not winning matches or didn't win tonight's game, it's because, I'm afraid, we lacked a little bit of quality and lacked a little bit of confidence.

"The negativity does affect confidence because players are a little bit anxious to get on the ball and do what they can do for fear they're going to make a mistake."
Are you freaking kidding me? First game back for your two best offensive players against a bottom-of-the-table team at home where they haven't won in 25 years and you haven't conceded in 4 games, and your squad "lacked a bit of confidence"?

Don't get mad at Woy, Rob. The media has informed me that it's not his fault, it's because Liverpool's squad isn't as good as Wolves'.

Hodgson for England.

Oh dear, Woy just blamed the fans. Even those fans who were giving him the benefit of the doubt will have had enough with this bellend now.

Seriously, just f*** off.

Jen Chang at SI has a great article on Hodgson that's definitely worth a read - he breaks down Hodgson's s*** tactics, amongst other things;
