Anything I convert to MPEG using the Xbox360 Videora converter seems to work. I think the software converts files to MPEG2's. Only certain file types work on the PS3 so certain ones need to be converted.ScoopBrady wrote:How do you get that all set up Diablo? I was able to get music to stream but movies would not show up. If it was a small file it would but if it was a full length movie I converted for the PSP it wouldn't. I'd love to be able to store movies on my PC in the basement and stream them to my PSP in my bedroom.

Even with the discounts/sales at Amazon and deepdiscount, the Blu-ray versions are a lot more expensive than plain jane DVDs. I understand that the format is new, and maybe there is some sort of license fee. With that said, why do Blu-ray versions of movies cost so much more that DVD versions?

Manufacturing costs are higher, especially in the case of Blu-Ray.
DVD by now has huge economies of scale and the process is as refined as it's ever going to be in terms of yield and cycle times.
If each DVD can be pressed in 1.5 seconds and Blu-Ray takes 5, you can see where the volume production is.
Blu-Ray disc structure is completely different, which is how they have higher data density. But they also have to put a hard coating on which adds to cost. Without hardcoating, BR is very vulernable. With hardcoating, much more durable than DVD.
Plants also have to make a multimillion investment in new stamping and mastering equipment whereas HD-DVD can just upgrade some DVD lines.
Backers of HD-DVD claimed a huge advantage in manufacturing cost which would give it a leg up in format wars. But if you search for prices, you see that HD-DVD is not being priced much lower.
So the real answer is, the studios price these at a premium for now. They're happy with the revenues from DVD sales and if they get something more from high-def, that's good. The volumes are low and the market is really still upscale, even though prices on players are much lower than at a comparable point after DVD launch.
Studios would price at DVD parity if they see DVD becoming obsolete and high-def as the replacement for those revenues. That day may never come though, because a lot of HDTV owners are satisfied with DVD or think upscaled DVD picture is just as good as Blu-Ray or HD-DVD.

By obvious reasons (don't own a 360 anymore) I have to say I will go the PS3 rout all the way.
I've really enjoyed my time with it this 2 days.
My systems has been on almost for 2 days now downloading demos when I'm not playing MLB. No freezes, no problems whatsoever.
MLB 07 is just phenomenal. It's ALMOST perfect out of the box. I'm playing it on HOF and I get great scores. It still will need a bit of tweaking, but I find it much better out of the box than the PSP version.
PS Store is simple, but it gets the job done.
Did I mention MLB 07 is great?
Oh and a great DVD player/BR player to boot.

For those of you using your PS3 for DVD/Blu-ray movies, what remote are you using? I had the Sony brand one for my PS2, but I do not have a PS2/PS3 adaptor, so no idea if it will work on the PS3. I have read that the PS3 remote is OK, but not really that great a purchase for the price.

Works fine, lot better button placement than the original PS2 dvd remote.
I just registered on netflix. 2 movies for $4.99 for me since I'll be just renting BR movies.

For those who own a PS3 and are looking for PS2 games that they missed out on, i picked up God of War (the original), Rugby 06, and Socom 3 during the Gamestop 3 for 2 used sale last week.
While i haven't touched Socom yet and Rugby will take a while to get as i have no clue how to play Rugby (although they have a solid tutorial) i can absolutely see why God of War got so much praise. This game is absolutely fun as hell. Best thing about it is with Widescreen on and Progressive scan on, this game looks far better than i thought it would for a PS2 game.

If this happens sooner than later, would this be the quickest price drop in console history??

I'm starting to get this freezes in The Show too. Hasn't happened playing a DVD nor BR movie.Danimal wrote:Is anyone else experiencing freezes with thier PS3? While playing the Show and watching some Blue Ray movies occasionally my system will freeze for 20-30 seconds and then continue.
It's too late to go back to the store and return it for another, so anyone have an idea who I call to find out what is going on?
I think it's has to do with the internet connection. I've noticed that when the game freezes the blue light(wireless activity) stalls in blue. Then 15 segs later it starts flashing again and the game resumes.
I'll disable the internet connection and try it again. If not, I'll try connecting the PS3 via wired connection. Maybe it's a wireless connection issue.

Getting a rash of complaints about the sound going out completely on TW07 for PS3 after this update. The remedy I am hearing is to turn of DTS 5.1 to get it working again. You might try that....I don't have a PS3 right now to confirm....jLp vAkEr0 wrote:I'm starting to get this freezes in The Show too. The only game that freezes for me is the Show and it only does it when the Internet is connected. It comes back for me after about 30 seconds. It's a pain in the ass so I always disable my Internet connection prior to playing.jLp vAkEr0 wrote:I'm starting to get this freezes in The Show too. I pulled the trigger on the Ps3 and "The Show" and DL'd the update before loading the game. The game was stuck at the loading screen,to the point where I thought I had a bad disk. Until I remembered this thread. Once I disabled the internet connection, she loaded up. So I was able to get only 4 innings in,and my impressions are..WOWLeebo33 wrote:The only game that freezes for me is the Show and it only does it when the Internet is connected. If you put this one away in a "couple weeks" i'll be shocked. This game has more staying power between RTTS, Franchise, exhibition games, and online (when you can get one in) than any other sports game i've ever played on any system. I can't remember the last time i was two months into a game and still had the "i can't wait to fire it up again" feeling.I guess I know what game I'm going to playing for the next couple of weeks
Enjoy.
