That trade did wonders for both teams.
Abreu fits perfectly with the Yankees. He's not the best player and isn't looked upon by the other players. He just does his jobs and gets on base.
Meanwhile, taking Abreu out of Philly put Chase Utley in the 3 spot and the Phils' offense has become a juggernaut. Also, Utley has become the leader on this team. The guy everyone follows. It changed this team's attitude.
Another bizarre incident involving Jays coach J. Gibbons. With the Jays up 8-0 in the second inning I switched off the TV and went to the Golf range. After my practice I grabbed a drink with my buddy and watched some more of the game only to find out that the A's were only a run behind in the fifth inning and eventually went on to win 12-10.
After Gibbons decided that he saw enough of Ted Lilly, there was a clear altercation between both, where the pitcher went off calling him a "F***** A***" in front of the whole stadium.
Gibbons obviously didn't appreciate it and went inside the tunnel and confronted Lilly. With his past history with S. Hillendbrand and a recent one with catcher B. Molina it isn't hard to guess that he challenge Lilly to a fist match. He came back to the dugout wiping his nose, the rest is history. It isn't know yet the condition of T. Lilly.

Are you in Toronto 10spro? I'm asking because I thought it was a strange coincidence that I also turned off the game and went to the driving range at about the same time. Also grabbed a drink at the range and saw the update...Were you at "The Launch"?
Man, does the AL Central absolutely ROCK this year or what?!?!Dave wrote: HUGE four-game series between the White Sox and Tigers starting tonight. The Sox could sneak back into the thick of the AL Central race with a dominant series. I'm hoping for a split while the Twins head to Baltimore and hopefully take care of business.
It seems like EVERY week there's a "HUGE" series between two of the top three teams. Either that or they are hooking up in a huge series with the leaders from the East or West.
Good stuff. It's been fun to watch.
I only wish the Tribe would have jumped into the fray. Oh well, maybe next year.

Fanatic, I live in Vancouver, but I do travel quiet a bit to Toronto, the last time just a couple of weeks ago when I saw them vs the Orioles. But again with the score 8-0 in the 2nd inning I think we did the right thing to go golfing a bitfanatic wrote: Bizarre to say the least...

They all played great ball for about a month there (all three teams), but now they all are struggling to play .500 ball. All of them could take control if they'd just win 9 of 10 or something like that. It's pretty mediocre ball right now in the Central.lexbur wrote:Man, does the AL Central absolutely ROCK this year or what?!?!

What a rough weekend.
I'm giving up on the Red Sox season, throwing in the towel.
Schilling has been great this year, considering what happened last year, but the rest of the rotation has been a mess.
Beckett left his curveball and changeup on Florida... Clement is a mess... Wells is hurt, Wakefield is hurt. Oy.
The bright spots?
1. Papelbon -- kid has emerged as an All-Star quality pitcher.
2. Wily Mo Pena -- that trade, long term, will be a good one. That kid can mash -- and he's only 24. Arroyo added depth to a rotation, but in th AL, he's no better that a .500 pitcher with a 4.75+ ERA.
3. John Lester -- he's struggled, but he's a 22 year old pitcher getting valuable experience. That will help in in a year or two (a la Kazmir).
Time for Sox brass to bring up kids like Murphy and Pedroia, let them get their kicks in, and prepare for 07.
As far as I'm concerned... it's now football season.

One bad pitch by Izzy and they're running out of gas? Both teams had 8 hits. If Duncan doesn't drop the bloop flyball in the 5th, the whole inning changes and perhaps Delgado doesn't get that GS.Inuyasha wrote: How about the cards. It looks like they are running out of gas.
The Cards took 2/3 from Cincy and 2/3 from the Cubs. They're fine, this was only one game.

Yeah, Pronk's having an AMAZING year, 6 grand slams, tying the ML record. It'd be great to see him get number 7. We need SOMETHING to cheer about this year.snaz16 wrote:
Just an absolute dismal year for the Tribe.
But Travis Hafner is just killing the ball. D. Ortiz gets the ink, but Hafner has little protection that Ortiz is afforded w/ Manny. Dude is just a hitting machine.

Stud, yes. MVP? I dunno. Usually they give it to a player on a playoff team, and at a minimum a team that's .500 or better. Unfortunately for Howard, neither seems to be the case. I like him though, especially since he's a St. Louis guy and even went to college in the state too.Diablo25 wrote:MVP...period.

But Howard's numbers are just exploding.
I think it's a 2 player race now between Pujols and Howard.
For a time there I thought Beltran had a chance, but I think the fact that the Mets have been in cruise control now for almost 2 months will actually hurt him.
It should be Pujols mVP to lose, but if the Phils finish strong, I think Howard wins it.
