I picked up the Lunar White controller when GameStop had their awesome trade in deal for them. The build quality is a step up, the grip texture on the back is really nice, and getting the headphone jack on the controller is a great feature that should have been there day one.

I may pick up a Forza controller to replace my other controller. It has the grip texture, while the new Halo controllers do not. Plus, the Forza controller just looks nice, as opposed to the cheesier Halo designs. I may pick up an Elite, but for just improving on build quality and getting the current features, the Lunar White and Forza controllers are a great option. You can also get the basic black controller with the new bumpers and headphone jack, but I have no idea if it will feel as nice as the others.

My guess is that I will find an Elite on EBay or Craigslist, or maybe a great sale down the line. Regardless, if you are willing to wait, I think there will be cheaper ways to get one than Tge $150 price tag.

I recently acquired two gift cards so my nerd/technology addiction pushed me to preorder the Elite Controller.

Where did you preorder it? I tried at the local Gamestop and they told me that they cut off preorders shortly after announcement. They're setting one aside for me anyway, but I couldn't actually preorder the damned thing.

Amazon maybe 2 weeks ago. If you go there now it says that its out of stock and they don't know when or if it will be back. Like two days after I preordered they had a notice up saying that if you preordered after like 10/10 they couldn't guarantee shipment for October 27th. I guess I got in under the wire. The Microsoft Store had a deal too. It said if you preordered before 10/23 you would get it the day it was released BUT a few days ago the ship date changed to 11/2 and now its 11/16. I guess they are getting hit hard with preorders by nerds like me.

As far as the controller itself...I saw a few hands on videos and the extra long sticks looked like they helped alot with driving and shooting games. You can also set the sensitivity of the sticks which would play well in FPSs. I think I posted a video above where they go thru the app that customizes the controller. Its pretty expansive.

I picked up the Xbox one halo guardians controller a few weeks back and it's fantastic. The look is really cool and the shoulder buttons are improved. Overall it feels more solid than the original black controller. The mic port is a nice addition to so I can finally play gta on Xbox.

Engadget reviewed the Elite Controller. From the review...

I've been using the Elite controller for almost a week and I haven't wanted to put it down

For Halo 5: Guardians, I stuck a standard stick on the left and one of the twice-as-tall options on the right. With Forza Motorsport 6, I reversed that. Why? With shooters, the extra height gave me more leverage and ensured I wouldn't hit a face button by accident while aiming my assault rifle at my quarry. In a racing game, the added height made steering a lot easier.

More dramatic is the difference the levers make in Forza 6, where they serve as paddle shifters and a clutch for manual transmissions. They're really useful; I've never been comfortable using a stick shift with a gamepad, but since I don't have the space in my apartment, a racing wheel isn't feasible.

Well, I went ahead and ordered the Elite controller last night. I had $15 in certificates to use by 10/29. I figure I'll see how it works with Forza 6 to gauge whether it'll be a nice substitution for a racing wheel. I'm really excited to try it!

Yeah I saw that too. I am a member of the preview program so I should be getting it soon. It looks a lot cleaner/faster.

I don know that it is a forced shortage. They are designing it for a smaller demographic of pro and competitive gamers. I think they are surprised that it resonated so well with average gamers at that price point. I'm not surprised that retail has been hesitant to go all in on them.

My local Gamestop said they weren't sure if they were getting any in other than their preorders. Walmart's website has had it as a December release since it was annouonced. MS's own store was sold out of preorders over a week ago. Part of me thinks MS wasn't expecting the demand to be this high. They have said all along that it was geared towards 1%-2% of gamers. $150 is a lot of money but I guess the interest is higher than expected.

I should have the controller later this afternoon. Will post my early impressions. Not 100 percent I'll keep it, but am interested to see how it works with Forza 6 along with some FPS. I am not buying Halo at this time, opting to pick up WWE 2K16 for my son.

Got mine today (arrived from Amazon). Gonna fire it up in a bit but I have to clean up a network issue first
