So, I had my mind sort of blown last night with the whole Jon Snow revelation. Since he's the offspring of Lyanna and not Ned...that means that he's Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark's child. So he's a Stark AND a Targaryen?!?
Which would make him Daenerys' Uncle, I think...and the Targaryens typically wed brother to sister. Too convenient that they bring up the "who will you marry?" question to Khaleesi, and then suddenly we find out that there's a surviving member of the Targaryen line, and the two of them could simply marry and build this alliance and run roughshod through the Lannisters.

10 months is a really, really long time to wait.
Jon is Dany's nephew---son of her brother. Took me a minute to figure that one out.
The show is finally getting to plots points that I foolishly thought it would hit at the end of season 1 when I started watching (winter arriving, Dany crossing the sea, finding out Jon Snow's mother...). White walkers still just kind of chilling though.
Thanks for that. That's the part I wasn't sure about, whether Rhaegar was the brother of the Mad King (whatever his actual name was!) or her brother. I guess a little more thought about "Prince Rhaegar" would have eventually had logic win out, but still....crazy to think of what might be coming.
Still weird that she's supposed to be his Aunt, but they appear to be around the same age on the show. It's all set up too nicely.
Great last few episodes, got rid of some characters to clear space for the wind down. I just wish they got to this point a year ago because what comes next will be far more interesting and they will have less time to play it out.
BTW does causing the death of three of your kids promoted you to #1 villain in TV history?

I think this was the best season finale for GoT so far. Usually the pattern has been for the ninth episode to be big and the tenth to be more subdued. This managed to do both, with two surprising deaths (to me anyway) in Margaery and Tommen. I was disappointed in Margaery's death -- I liked her character and thought they were setting up something interesting with her "faith." But wildfire don't give a damn about interesting characters. Tommen's suicide got rid of a boring character while also providing one of the best twists in the series.
Overall a terrific return to form for the show after a poor season 5. The most boring storylines have been resolved, the chess board is set up, and only the most interesting villains remain. If only the wait for next season could accelerate like the ability of characters to travel across Westeros!
