It confirms what I thought all along, that Madden moments were not going to be free after the first batch. Still it's not really that bad because you get 20,000 coins with Madden 11, so i'll use them to buy MM until I run out of coins. ;)

MM like MUT is something I don't really care about nor will ever use so it's has no impact on me. I do know a lot of people that are hooked on MUT, I just don't get it.

There are some things I like about Madden this year, but it's not enough to make me take time away from NCAA 11, or NHL 11, so it's getting traded in.. probably for NBA 2k11.

Same here but at least I now have an excuse to use 20,000 coins.

When you do a 2nd season of online franchise, does the schedule just repeat the 2nd season or change?

It changes. Just like in the real NFL, it rotates to a different division in the opposite conference and depending on what place you finished in your division will determine who you play from your own conference.

ESPN has been using Madden 11 for some of their NFL highlights. Man the game looks pretty bad in replay mode. I know the game looks ok while playing it but you'd expect more from a next-gen title. :P

One fun item and one actual cool item from recent Madden games. . .

Fun Item: My Doritos Crunch Time Play against the Redskins during my offline Bears Franchise:

The Thrilling Extra Point kicked by Robbie Gould. Sure it technically broke the 27-27 tie, but really, an extra point? :D

Cool Item: The Bills host the Bears in Rogers Centre in Toronto this year and sure enough, the game has the venue right for the Franchise, so that was pretty cool

Now if we can only get the Winter Classic into NHL we'd be all set. . .

Apparently the new patch is out, PS3 only at this point.

Hopefully makes the game playable

Supposedly the patch fixes special teams blocking, pass defense, and play action protection among other things.

Does anyone else feel that with the current engine, certain things in the game are just going to oscillate back and forth between too hard and too easy, without much balance in between?

Early impressions of the 3rd patch over at OS are not too good -- sounds like little has changed, other than they drastically slowed down the kick meter for online play. So far, nobody's really noticing a difference in the other areas it supposedly fixed. It will be interesting to read impressions here.

That's the inescapable conclusion across all these versions.

They're either doing it deliberately or they're incompetent to allow regressions to not only re-occur but actually ship and then have to patch.

We see things like poor pass defense, poor OL AI, etc. in one year and then they go away then they come back.

This isn't the first year for example that you could roll up ridiculous passing yards and points and if the historic pattern holds, it will happen again and again, maybe not next year, but eventually. They've had to fix this in new versions or if the complaints are loud enough, through patches. That's why a lot of guys when they get the new version, one of the things they look for is the robo QB.

Yeah. It just seem by design or not, there are so many things that they can't get to balance out. And when they do, they do something else that knocks that out of whack.

Take the Show. Regardless of your preference, from a sim standout, it's a well-balanced game. For instance, doubles, like a million other things, are a component in a baseball game that happen with a certain frequency. In the Show, they occur just about at the perfect rate. Not too many, not too few. Just about right. Many things in the Show, like doubles, strike a good balance, which is why many appreciate the game.

For people interested in an accurate simulation of a sport, Madden is just in this perpetual state of imbalance.

Not a single impression about the 3rd patch that came out last week? I don't think I've ever seen that happen before for any sports game around here -- how odd.

Nah...just no point in posting about it. People have made up their minds by now. People who won't ever play it won't change their minds, and some of the things that have people fed up will always have them fed up.

It's kind of a dead horse at this point. I'll continue to play it (as contrary to popular belief, the patch did fix some of the major things I had been annoyed with), but it's pointless to post about.

Haven't really had time to try the patch yet. I played a 2 vs 2 OTP with Terry, Vader and Todd last week and that was fun but really not played it solo. Frankly with Civ V out, NHL which is really good to me, NCAA OD which is also fun and a slew of other games including FIFA out this week I haven't had much interest in booting up Madden.

The though of doing a coach only franchise is on my mind and I might try that just for s*** and giggles.

Wow, no kidding?

I will just say I'm looking forward to FIFA11.

Edit: Just checked and it's $35 for the X360 version and $31.25 for the PS3 version.
