P. Sykora, you're alive! Bring on game 6 baby. Pens fought hard for this one, well deserved.

AND SYKORA CALLS THE WINNER 8O :D :D :D

Man, I'm glad it came on a legit PP also, those first two in OT for Pit were total bs. The longer the game went, the more I figured it would hurt Detroit if they lost. Let's see if that momentum carries over to Wednesday. Fleury, what more can I say???

Why aren't they playing don't stop believing now?

Hell yeah, I'm up for another hour at least after that. I was really dragging too that third OT, the nerves from the first two periods really wore me out, I had about zero emotion until Sykora's winner.

I think the last three games have really shown how much the Pens have grown this series. Those first two games weren't even competitive, but now they've shown they can compete with the best in the West. This experience is going to have to be a big boost to the franchise down the road, Fleury especially.

I was ok with those calls HipE i dont think the players should be able to just charge into the crease out of control and be able to take out the goalie like that, its hard enough for a defensemen as it is under the new rules now you wanna give them the disadvantage of a forward just trying to power his way around you knowing he can just ride you or himself into the net.
I was more upset with the Sykora penalty even tho it was Legit call any other time but it just looked like a weak call with all that game was offering up.

Anyway game six man cant wait hope it goes to 7, then i wont mind who wins.

I am not so sure jimmy. Those two calls on DET during the first couple of OT's were dubious. Add a few cheap calls during regulation and I thought for sure that PIT bought them out to set up game six. D. Cleary was going at full speed as he tried to jam the puck into Fleury, and with so little real estate to work with at the end at that speed, the contact is inevitable.

But in the end I am glad that they didn't win it in a doubtful call and give Pens all the credit especially a monster performance by Marc Andre. He stole the show especially during the third period when the home team was all over the ice, and also during the first OT. I am just glad that we are going to game six and if E. Malkin finally wakes up; (some of his neutral zone passes were scary and created many turnovers), he's finally got his first point of the series, anything can happen.

I know what your saying 10s but i just dont think its fair a forward can use his momentum to basicly dislodge the goalie. On the 2nd call he didnt have to make contact with the goalie at all, he could have made an attempt whilst going by the net, granted you wanna stop and dig for a rebound but you need to be in control then to be able to do so , dont use the goalie as a back stop.

It will be interesting to see if NHL make an adjustment.

I agree i hate it when a dubious call ends the game which is why i thought Sykoras was weak at that stage of a game (swallow that damn thing ) but they almost had to call it after the calls on Pens plus it is a deffinite penalty his stick was parallel to the ice.

Give me a break. These things even out over a series. I hate it when there is so much focus on officiating. How different could game 5 have been if Crosby gets the penalty shot awarded when the Wings player clearly shot a portion of a broken stick towards him? And was it game 4 or 5 that also had the ridiculous diving penalty called on the Pens that wiped out a power play? I dont' think the goalie interference penalties were that much worse than the call against Ryan Malone in an earlier game.

Considering that the Red Wings got a grand total of 3 penalties in regulation, one of them a matching roughing call and one an interference call that I don't recall a lot of controversy over, I just don't see "a few cheap calls." I saw one incorrect tripping call that looked like a trip at full speed.

I stayed up, and glad I did! What an epic game. One I'll remember for a long, long time.

Fleury was unconscious -- he should have received all three stars a la Rocket Richard back at the old Forum.

Pittsburgh needs to play a power game for the rest of the series. It simply can't skate and dipsy-doodle with Detroit like it can with Eastern Conference teams. I think Pittsburgh showed a considerable amount of sandpaper down low along the boards, cycling and forcing Detroit turnovers with forechecking pressure. The Hall-Talbot line was really effective at that.

Malkin finally showed up in the last two OT's, playing his best hockey of the game. It was really the only time he was visible in the series outside of Game 3. His work along the wall was instrumental in keeping Detroit pinned in its zone in the later OT's.

And what balls shown by Gonchar and Malone to return to the game, especially Malone. It reaffirms the greatness of hockey to me to see guys like Malone return to the ice with a "Friday the 13th" face when guys in other sports miss games because of hurt feelings and hangnails.

The officiating was maddeningly inconsistent throughout the game. I don't think this crew is doing a great job. The call on Datsyuk was horrible. But I think the officials are doing a universally mediocre job at best, so it's hard to say they're afflicting one team more than another.

While the first two games of this series were snoozers, the last three games have been world-class entertainment, hockey at its dramatic, skilled, honorable pinnacle.

Roll on Game 6. Can't wait!

Take care,
PK

What a great game...the Igloo's gonna be rockin' for Game 6. Let's go Pens! I called Sykora before the series so, if anyone's drinking and playing from home, have a drink on me.

A break? This is the Stanley Cup finals, and to reach this stage you have the best two teams representing their conferences. The same goes for the Zebras as the NHL picks the best of them to call a game. Last nights's game was too good to focus on the officials and believe me, they've been some screw up calls in the previous games.

It shouldn't be about evening out calls when there isn't one just to cover your a$$ for a previous bad call, I know they tend to do that a bit during the
regular season but for what's at stake, their performance has been very
inconsistent to say the least. And when you're in doubt, especially during OT's don't call it, but again to be fair there's been some very questionable calls on both teams throughout the series.

I am glad PIT stretched the series, that place should be rocking on Wednesday.

McGuire may be obnoxious, but the guy spots a lot of things between the benches and offers good insight on the game.

I think McGuire's hyper personality is ill-suited for the booth or studio, but the frenetic pace and tension of being at ice level suit his personality perfectly and make him very effective as a reporter between the benches.

Emrick was actually tolerable last night, as he let the drama of the game tell the story instead of regaling us with endless stats about guys' careers in the AHL, juniors and bantams.

Milbury is a blowhard, and the NBC host who replaced Bill Clement is simply dreadful. I have no idea where that guy came from, but can he be returned?

Take care,
PK

I wonder who'd win a fight between Mike Emrick and ESPN football expert John Clayton.

Hes still a knob. But hes not as bad as that harwood guy omg i cant even watch his interviews they are just uncomfortable.

I like Martha Stewart tho she probly is the best down stairs reporter of them all, she may be versus.

I just hate all the between the bench guy and the interviews while the game is going on its unnecassary i mean how often do we get good information realy.

Babcock is awsome tho, realy is doing a good job keeping his team even. Met him around the Socal rinks, his lad was in the same division as mine and was always nice to our kids and always had time for them even if we where about to crush them on the ice.

Clayton's neck is so skinny that I think the first shot to his nog would render him unconscious.
