I am fighting that same impulse also.
I want to see these guys in blu but I think the extras will still be on DVD?... Making them a duplicate buy.

Correct, the extras are just ported over and in standard def.
But Best Buy has the set for $70, and I figure the individual movies would probably still be at least $20 on BR, so it's not really an outrageous price. And I have wanted these on BR more than anything else for the last couple of years.

Me too. Held out on the regular blu versions for the extended.
I have true grit blu I have yet to open and I might return it towards this.
I indeed caved and picked up the LotR Extended Edition Blu-rays. Only sampled a few scenes across all three movies, but they look amazing, especially The Two Towers and The Return of the King. Watched some of the Siege of Minas Tirith and all I can say is The level of detail and clarity in the picture is remarkable. So I'm glad I bought the set, especially since I think $70 is pretty reasonable considering how much is packed in the box.

In a way I was hoping you would say they sucked ass or at least that they were not worth the upgrade......You sir are the devil.

LOL, well, further viewing hasn't changed my mind. Watched disc 1 of Fellowship with my wife last night, and it looks quite awesome. There's been some bitching on the AVS forums about the color being a bit green, but I didn't notice except for maybe a few shots in the Shire. The opening sequence with Sauron and the ring looked incredible, as did Rivendell.
The bigger pleasant surprise is the sound. The extended DVDs sound great, but this set is sonically out of this world. The dialog is really sharp and not drowned out by the booming sounds or music of bigger scenes. I'm not even listening to it in full uncompressed glory -- I have a receiver that predates the DTS-HD standard, so I get just DTS -- and it still blew me away.
So you may as well fork over the cash while it's on sale

I know, but much like the ring itself, I am drawn to its evil power. I will need serious help if I ever get around to shopping for a new surround setup.
really terrible selection of new release movies out right now, but I did watch a gem from a while back yesterday....
"Up in the Air" with G. Clooney was just a great, great movie. Unexpected twist at the end and very thought provoking.
If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it.

Agreed. A very good, character-driven adult drama. No special effects, no BS -- just excellent acting, scripting and cinematography. A rarity these days in Hollywood.

Saw it on the plane, pretty entertaining. The guy plays a character much like the one in the Office -- earnest rube from a small town, goes to a less small town and learns about the ways of the world.
Worth seeing. Don't know what else is out for rental right now but not something you can't wait to see on cable.
Once Upon A Time In The West on blu....Yes!!!....10/10...beautiful...Everyone is great in it and it is my favorite Cardinale....If you love you some Leone and you have a blu ray player its a must get.
The Way Back on blu....8.5/10...Gripping, gritty, heart wrenching stuff.
Watched "Take Me Home Tonight". Ever since I saw the original trailer I wanted to see it. Any movie set in the 80's is right up my alley. I really enjoyed it. 8.5/10

The wife and I watched it last night. We both enjoyed quite a few laughs. You pretty much knew what was going to happen from the beginning, but it was entertaining and the sound track was pretty good. It reminded me a lot of the movies from the 80s. Good cast of characters too.
