And being able to actually activate your phone without plugging it into a computer. Progress for Apple...catching up with Android 3 years ago! Woohoo!Murph wrote:Notifications was definitely a weak point, but I have to say iOS 5 overall is looking sweet!dbdynsty25 wrote:LOL...Apple finally realized that notifications are handled WAY better in Android. But yeah, agreed...the OS is looking better and better. Finally starting to be able to compete. Now if only they'd actually release a 4GLTE iPhone and I'd think about it. But alas, not this year (allegedly). Maybe the iPhone 6 will bring me back.

After watching the iOS 5 video, I don't see any reason to jump back to Android anytime soon.

Re: OT:Smart Phones
Hey gang, I'm looking for some advice on a bluetooth headset or car kit for my new Nexus S. I used to have a Nexus One (until I dropped it and shattered the screen) and recently got a new Nexus S from Telus for less then it would have cost to fix the N1.
With my N1 I had the car dock, which I found a nice thing to have so I could use Google Navigation, and it also had the bluetooth speaker for calls and such.
It seems there is a car dock for the S, but I can't find it on the Samsung site anywhere?
So, if there isn't one, i was wondering if anyone knew of something similar, that would hold the Nexus S, and provide bluetooth capability for calling too.
Failing that, I was wondering if anyone had a good car kit to recommend. I could just get an earpiece, but since I really only want it for the car, I think a speaker would be better.......

If you're looking just for a speaker, hands free Bluetooth, I recommend the BlueAnt ST3 and it works like a charm. Just slip it over your windshield visor and it's all hands free. Not as expensive as a year and a half ago either.Gangrel wrote:Hey gang, I'm looking for some advice on a bluetooth headset or car kit for my new Nexus S. Re: OT:Smart Phones
I got one from Costco, forget the brand but they make the headsets too.
Battery life is pretty good and the speaker is loud. Was about $70. I'm sure they no longer have the same model but they have something like it.

Re: OT:Smart Phones
Assuming you are staying on T-Mobile...I'd go with the HTC Sensation at this point. It's the best T-Mobile phone at the moment. However, I'd actually wait a little bit. The Samsung Galaxy S2 should be coming to the states in the next month or two and that's pretty much a superphone at this point. It's ridiculously good. Specs are very similar to the Sensation so you can't go wrong with either really.
HTC makes the best software modifications to Android itself, and the hardware is really good as well. So that's where you should go. LG has fallen off and their Android offerings are mediocre...so skip the G2x.
Sensation by a mile.

Thanks Scott.
Ill try to wait for the S2 but if I must, I will grab the Sensation.

Re: OT:Smart Phones
Go check the Sensation out...there still hasn't been an official confirmation that the S2 is even going to come out in the states, but I'd imagine it will. With T-Mobile you can probably even buy a European unlocked and use it on the network. Not sure if the 4G frequency bands matchup though so I'd probably wait for the official version. But again, who knows how long it will be.XXXIV wrote:Thanks Scott.

I'm rocking the HTC Thunderbolt and the HTC Incredible 2 right now, which are both behind the Sensation spec-wise and I love everything about them. HTC does a great job with their phones.

Re: OT:Smart Phones
Oh, and if you want one with a keyboard...the MyTouch 4G Slide has arrived as well. This review gives you a really good idea of what to expect software wise from HTC...software is similar on the Slide as it is on the Sensation (a few more t-mobile tweaks on the slide):

Agree with all of em...even the Thunderbolt. It's the reason it's not my daily phone...the horrible battery. But when I go out of town and want to tether to my Galaxy Tab or my laptop, it comes with me because the 4G is absolutely bad ass.Murph wrote:Five Android phones to avoid...according to the author.

Oh and the random restarts and bad switching from 3g to 4g were rectified about a month ago with a software update, so the author needs to get up to speed before spreading false info.

The Dell Streak is the oddest to me. It really seems as if they couldn't decide between a tablet and phone.dbdynsty25 wrote:Agree with all of em...even the Thunderbolt. RIP WebOS...that was quick.
Now if only Microsoft can quickly put an end to Windows Phone then we'll be down to the three Operating Systems that matter. It'll be a good day.

I was just reading on a Tech site that Best Buy had like 200K of the HP Touch in stock.dbdynsty25 wrote:RIP WebOS...that was quick.

Yep, I saw on WSJ the other day that Best Buy stocked 275k units, and had only sold 25k of them. They are trying to make HP take them back.Rodster wrote:I was just reading on a Tech site that Best Buy had like 200K of the HP Touch in stock.dbdynsty25 wrote:RIP WebOS...that was quick.

That article was referring to the Dell Streak 5, not the 7, which I have BTWMurph wrote:The Dell Streak is the oddest to me. But I agree.....it makes no sense as a phone, but the Streak 7 makes a great tablet. I'm sure Mr Hammerslag probably thinks
it sucks compared to the Galaxy 7, but I wasn't willing to shell out all the extra $ for the Samsung. The 10" size of the Ipad
and Galaxy Tab makes it a little cumbersome for a "reader" or for playing games where you are actively tilting the screen around.
I find the 7" size to be perfect....big enough but not too big to carry around. For the $200 I spent on it, it has proven to be money
well spent. I might trade it in for something else when the holidays roll around and the Tablet Wars begin, but for now,
it's great.
Re: OT:Smart Phones
I guess that explains the crazy sales the last couple of weeks where the HP tablet was discounted to $300-400?Naples39 wrote:Yep, I saw on WSJ the other day that Best Buy stocked 275k units, and had only sold 25k of them. Somehow I smell HP Touchpads as Deal of the Day on Woot.com in the next month or so. Estimated price? $200?

Hell, I didn't see this sale at Woot before my previous post. Honest!
http://www.woot.com/Forums/ViewPost.aspx?PostID=4579730
There were a whopping 612 takers two weeks ago for a heavily discounted TouchPad on Woot. Ouch.
