Also, there is a very good article about the Historic Edition in the April issue of Golf Digest for their Masters preview.
If you're talking about the tournaments I believe those are set automatically but in a simple practice round, as long as you turn off the Live time of day, you can pick which time period you play in. If that makes sense. It's in the options after you select the course and before you tee off.

Your practice rounds you can set up however you like. You can use live time of day and weather if you want to. I am not sure about the career mode as I really only play DSP country club or xbox live tournaments. Those are the same...can be setup by the admin however they choose. The career I would assume might be the same way...choose random weather or set to live.

DB beat me to it.

Thank you!

I am going to pick up the Historic Edition when I get back from vacation. Hopefully, the patch will be out soon after.

Seriously?

You go to DSP Country club

Tournaments

1 day or 4 day
Well, which one are we supposed to pick? 1 day or 4 day? does it matter?

You can play either or both. I also meant round not day, so we typically have a single round tourney set up every day and then a 4 round which runs for a whole week.

You can play both or either. It will only let you play tournaments that are current. There's always one 1 rounder and 1 4 rounder that are available for play.

I guess I don't see the big issue with putting camera to the extent that it would keep anyone from buying the game. I don't mean to sound like I'm doggin people, it's just that not once have I missed my 2nd putt attempt because of the terrible camera work on my 1st. As matter of fact I can count the number of times I've 3 putted on 1 hand.

I guess I'm just bummed because the OCC seems to be severely lacking when compared to last year. That, more than anything, is what makes or breaks the game for me.

There are plenty of OCC with more active members if that is what makes or breaks it for you then I'm sure you could find another one.

Even last year by the time we got to the 4th or 5th event we were down to maybe 6-8 people finishing events. Most would shoot their +21 in the 1st round and bail. Which is the sole reason I didn't run one this year. So JC has the honor of owning the first and only DSP Cup trophy which I am sure he proudly displays in his garage. :)

I haven't had time to even turn on my Xbox in the last 4 or 5 days but what keeps me playing this year is the Live events. I actually feel like I can place in the top 10 on sim settings and have yet to see ridiculous scores. I'm holding off on SP until the patch but I'm a little concerned that it doesn't use the TPC pack downloads I bought.

Speaking of the 4 round tourney. I finished the first round at +12 and it won't let me play any other rounds fir some reason. Looking forward to the next 4 rounder starting up.

As I've learned, this is a highly subjective issue and one that neither side of the discussion can explain to the other why it should or shouldn't matter. In an ideal world, we would have options for three or four camera presentation types. In my case, it's not just that I don't get what I consider a good read for my comeback putt; it's as much I feel like it's a sensually inconsistent presentation mode that doesn't blend into a congruent experience. I feel like I'm yanked out of the moment and taken to a disconnected viewpoint that's often more distant than the virtual spectators point of view... it just leaves me flat. I don't know how to explain it any better than that.

In my mind, if I'm playing a golf game using the "Follow Camera" presentation presentation option, the camera should stay behind the ball and "follow" it. It does that now from the tee until you get to the green, then it becomes a broadcast presentation mode, and for my tastes, an all too often poorly directed/produced one at that. Poor in that the camera angles are often zoomed out further than what would be seen in a real broadcast production. Still, I'm not even sure this mixed-mode presentation would work for me if the broadcast cameras weren't so distant.

While I'll admit that I'm a bit of a freak about this sort of thing, I'm not so blinded by my obsession with it that I can't see that there is another larger segment of the audience that couldn't tell you what camera mode they were looking at if you asked them. Many are probably not aware that there are even two options. The producer admitted that the game's code originally "pointed" to the Follow putting camera type we're going to be getting "restored" (his word) in the patch. He added that the change to the Broadcast camera for putting in the Follow cam mode was a 'decision' made late in the development cycle. That decision wasn't well received by enough people who voiced their disapproval for it to the degree that EA decided it would be best to go back with the original plan.

The larger majority of Tiger Woods 14 gamers probably aren't going to even notice the difference in the putting camera after the patch, although I'm sure there will be some who will want it back the way it was. In the end though, I think they will have appeased more buyers and potential buyers with the new Follow putting camera implemenation.
I guess I'm just bummed because the OCC seems to be severely lacking when compared to last year. That, more than anything, is what makes or breaks the game for me.
Yes, the OCC didn't get some of the upgrades I'd hoped for: an exclusive club lobby where private club competitions could be created and launched without every other clubs members on line at the time stumbling into the same lobby, an in-game tracked and scored club tournament season or 1 and 4 round Live Tournaments, and a more sortable club stat function.

The enthusiasm is down for the game this year compared to last, and I think that's keeping most of our group away. My enthusiasm has been restored with the patch news. I think this will now be the best Tiger ever, but will the news get out and bring folks back? That remains to be seen...

We've got 4 new members pending. I think KID LOCHEM and southernSNIDELY are active, but there are two others who haven't gotten all their i's dotted yet. I think this one *may* pick up after the patch and we see how much more stable online multiplayer becomes. H2H matchplay is broken online, AFAIC.
So JC has the honor of owning the first and only DSP Cup trophy which I am sure he proudly displays in his garage. :)
Au contraire... that trophy sits on our curio shelf, above our 60" HDTV on which I play Tiger 10, 13 and soon to be 14. It's become quite a conversation piece. That reminds me, I've got to get my daughter to photograph it so I can post it here... it's a treasure for sure! Look for that by tomorrow!

Good advice... I think we'll see an upswing here of people playing after the patch... I'm the prime example of that as I've only played for the duration of my 2 day online pass that was part of my rental copy. There are others who are frustrated and put off by the career stats and scores. The broken online multiplayer, in non simultaneous modes of play is keeping others away. I'd withhold judgement until a couple of weeks after the patch.

I'll look into that and see what's going on.... I'll be back. I think the 4 rounder I set up next was due to begin like an hour after the one Dan had set up ended. Lemme see though....

Thanks Tim.... that is good news on the patch!

I've found that our club's Sawgrass 4 rounder ends today at 5 PM. The next 4 rounder starts on 4/3/13 (can't tell the time of the start on the website tool). You should be able to go in on the DSP CC's Live Tournament page in the game, and see a future 4 Rounder for TPC Louisiana on the 3rd. It will tell you when the start time is when you click on it, even though it's got a clock icon on it showing it's a future start.

Same here. Post-patch and post-price drop or sale.

Honestly, neither was I....but the full game.....oh yeah, having more fun playing video Golf than I can ever remember. At this point, I recommend anyone on the fence to wait til the patch drops and read the feedback.....so far, I have seen 3 issues (2 of which I saw once and never again) and the other only happens on between hole stat screens regarding the previous week's tournament scores and nothing else. Your mileage may vary.....

Completely agree. The Demo was so ho-hum I cancelled my pre-order. Then decided to get the game anyway just based on the fact that it was harder on simulation difficulty. It certainly is. So I'm happy I picked it up, but I definitely don't have the time to devote to it like a lot of you as my attention span w/ one game is about an hour and then on to the next one, but I can still see keeping this game for a while and slowly building up my character. I'm glad I didn't pass on the game because of the horrendous demo.

I thought the demo was too dark and I really couldn't stand playing it. But I really liked the simulation mode (especially the use of the right stick this year) and saw the potential so I took a chance and caved. I'm so glad I did. It is so much more fun and challenging than any other golf game I've played (and I liked last year's version a lot).

I've seen the following issues: freezes when leveling my golfer (read about a workaround at OS) up, overlays and player names staying on screen until end of hole, occassional stuttering audio, and information on the screen between holes that starts to display but then nothing comes up even though I didn't hit any buttons. My putting camera doesn't change that much so I can live with it.

I've mainly been playing the DSP tournaments (poorly) and some random rounds so the tournament scoring bug hasn't bitten me yet. I just made the Web.com tour offline.

I can totally understanding people waiting for a deal and a more stable product (having $25 in BB rewards made the decision easier for me), but just wanted to let others know that there's a pretty good game in there already.

Well, I've played both the PS3 and 360 demo over the last couple days. I much prefer the 360 demo, mainly due to the controller. It just feels more natural, precise, and comfortable. But also, the lighting seems better on the 360 version (brighter perhaps) and graphically it's subtely crisper looking. Planning on picking this game up either today or tomorrow. I was quite satisfied with the demo, and news of the patch has me more interested. I do have a few questions if anyone can assist in answering.

Preference over the historic version versus the standard version? Btw, I highly doubt I'll purchase additional courses as 20 or 26 should be sufficient for me.

I haven't played a TW game in a few years. What's your suggestion on the first thing I should do? Create a player, start on easy, use a Pro and play 9 holes, etc. ?

Do you guys use your created players for tournaments? If so, can't someone just completely level up their player to a ridiculous skill?

I assume I cannot change the gameplay settings to fit my skill level in a tournament or club?

Can anyone comment on how the single player career is with this game? I assume I'm going to suck badly and the Live tournaments will become frustrating over time. More than likely, I'll spend most of my time offline, or at least in the beginning.

1. Yes most of us use CAG's and my understanding is the points distribution is capped at some number 560 maybe.

2. Now if you play a club tourney you play by the rules set for it. Otherwise it would be unfair if one guy was on arcade and another on sim.

3. I believe I have commented a lot on SP. For me it is broken because of the cut line bug. Once fixed I will play the hell out of it.

Sucking badly is part of the fun! There have been scores posted ranging from just under par to +45 for a *round*. I've been in the +15 range but there are usually a few people within striking distance of me to try to beat.

Here's my advice:

- Since this isn't for money or anything and doing well is important to you just play the tournaments with a Pro until you get a golfer with decent stats and get a feel for the game. The downside is you will miss out on XP you could use to build your golfer.
- Play offline in the hardest mode you can handle and still do good enough to build your golfer quickly and have fun. Last year I think I played career mode in Tour. This year I am playing it on simulation just because it is a lot more fun.
- I wouldn't get too used to playing on the easier levels though.

I find leveling up the CAG to be less of a chore this year it foes pretty fast and you can spend coins at lower levels to go up a level pretty cheaply. Not like the coins are good for much else.

I ordered the Masters Historic Edition yesterday from Amazon.com, using their Super Saver, free shipping option. They always say 8-10 days for that option, but I've never had anything take longer than 5 days, with 3 or 4 being more the norm. I still have my rental copy but I haven't touched it since last Friday. At least once I get the Historic Edition in the mail, I can access the DSPCC in the game and track things there again. I doubt I'm going to get back into the game much until the patch is out, but I know I'm going to hit the Augusta putting green so I experience the patched putting camera that we'll be seeing in the game. I need to work on my swing and keep it toned up at the practice range also!

Leveling your CAG is easier this year. Once you get in the 70's, you've got a fighting chance off the black tees, but you can breath a bit more once you hit the 80's. I did most of my leveling by playing in connected tournaments.

Just wanted to introduce myself as a new member of the DSP country club. I'm really enjoying the new simulation mode and looking forward to fixes with the upcoming patch.
I was playing a country club tourny the other night and I saw HOGZ join in a few holes behind me. I finished -1 and he was at 16 at -1. It was cool to be able to spectate as he finished his round, especially since we were so close in score - real element of fun competition. Hate to admit, I really wanted him to miss the putt at the last hole!!!
Anyway, look forward to seeing you guys on the virtual links. Thanks for allowing me to join your country club.
