I tell you the most exciting game I have seen thus far is The Division. That game looks outstanding and I love the concept.

Agreed. Wow. But I'm not quite sure I understand the MMO implementation. The demo shown seems like a single player experience but everything I read about the game says it's an online MMO shooter. ???Danimal wrote:I tell you the most exciting game I have seen thus far is The Division. It's certainly the most innovative and unique. Truthfully, though, I'm looking forward to a full slate of 360 games. The XB1 ain't even on my radar yet. Splinter Cell, Battlefield 4 (is the 64 man MP just on the next gen systems?), AC:BF...I'll be spinning the full circle machine for quite awhile yet...long enough for the market to work and balance out all the missteps and false starts, at least.

far as E3: not interested in either future console, at this time. That said, my vote is for Sony and don't expect that will change. For me, the mandatory internet connection and Microsoft's zeal to restrict freedoms for vidgame usage are definite red lights.
not too long ago, i remember being anti-Playstation and in favor of Microsoft and their brand new suitcase sized Xbox. And i couldn't wait to purchase one (and did). Fast forward to 2013 and Microsoft (Xbox One) have completely alienated me as a potential customer. To me, their decisions and marketing are sucicide, but that's me. And whether i borrow/lend/buy/sell used games etc, it doesn't matter and it's not the point. I will personally boycott their system, to deliver a F*ck you, to their decision makers. How can I? Because other options are available.
far as software, the #1 vidgame on my radar is MAD MAX.

Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
That's the one that has piqued my interest the most too, Vinny! I think the Just Cause guys make great, fun, open world games full of chaos, so they should be right at home with the subject matter!vinny-b wrote: far as software, the #1 vidgame on my radar is MAD MAX.A film (Mad Max 2 specifically) which is actually not overrated IMO, is what the medium of videogames exist for. Hopefully the makers of Just Cause will be faithful to it's production and origins.

It's an RPG / Shooter.
You drop in and get matched up with 3 other players on the console and 1 person can be on a tablet. So a squad of 5 (I think I heard that right)
It's open world in the sense that there are target hot spot areas and then you can encounter other squads.
Now how many squads can be in an area at once I don't think they have said.

Yea the dude controlling that remote thing in the video is supposedly on a tablet. When you play like that you have you own skill tree etc. What I like about this game is it's classless. Meaning you build your own class based on what you like to use etc.

Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
The Show + $100 cheaper + no spycam is making it difficult for me to think about XBox over PS4 even though probably 70% of my console time has been on the 360 over the PS3. On top of that, I have been fare more excited this past generation about the Sony exclusives of The Show and Uncharted games than MS exclusives. I like Forza in theory more than practice and really don't like Halo any more. I stuck with the 360 mostly because of the controller, XBL, and an addiction to achievements

Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
This is why competition is so good for the consumer. Sony got arrogant with the PS3 and got b*tch slapped by MS. Now after success with the 360 it's MS turn to become arrogant. Sony sucked it up and decided to put the consumer first. I don't like the requirement of Kinect 2 and all the side DRM the whole package brings.
And given the fact that this generation multi-platform games looked really close, they should look even closer with both consoles using similar CPU and GPU's. I also prefer Sony exclusives.

Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
That's an acceptably cynical way to look at it. Another interpretation might be "People already buy millions of XBL games all the time and don't seem to be up in arms about the fact that they don't get a physical disc they can give away or sell second hand, so we think in the real world application of this the negative backlash will be mitigated by the increased convenience and ease of use for most consumers."webdanzer wrote:
That's right, boys, amidst the smoke from BF4 and craters from Halo, they won't notice what we slipped by them until it's too late!
If they can succeed in "Steam-ifying" the console experience to a degree, including price breaks (and somehow finding a way to limit the risk people take when buying $60 games that might suck), I think a lot of the feelings of indignation would be forgotten in the wash.
If "available for download on release day" and "always on" mean that I could pre-pay for a game the day before its release, and my machine will download it automatically at midnight so that it is ready when I wake up, or even better if I decide while at work to buy a game and connect via smart glass on my iPhone and purchase it, and "always on" means the game is downloaded and ready to play that evening when I get home, well heck, that would be pretty fantastic for me and frankly far, far more convenient than anything I know of except buying games for my iPad.
And that's probably not even scratching the surface of those types of features or how they could develop through the 7 to 10 year cycle of the machine.
One thing I like about having Kinnect "shoved down our throats" as well as having "always connected" being a built in feature of the system is that it avoids the dreaded contradictions and complications of the "add on device." With Xbone, every developer knows the machine will have Kinnect and will be accessing the Internet, so they can concentrate on exploiting those features fully and innovatively rather than worrying about making sure their product works for a non-Internet, no-Kinnect consumer. Yes, they'll lose out on an increasingly shrinking sector (non Internet), but the kinds of things they may come up with that could really add to what games are and do would truly make this next machine "next gen." Also, if the Xbone wasn't "always connected," it would be just about the only device in my apartment that isn't always connected to the Internet except maybe my coffee maker and my microwave. And maybe in five years, those things will be too.
I do think MS's messaging has been clumsy and frankly rather awful. Failing to take into account that there may be knee-jerk "you're treating every consumer like a criminal" reactions for "always connected" is indeed pretty bad. And then they haven't done well at all at showing or explaining how these features could actually lead to benefits for their consumers. And they haven't been terribly nimble to react as things play out.
And I do find Sony to be pandering to the basest fears and sense of entitlement the vocal hardcore gamers are prone to. They saw an easy opportunity to get the big cheers and they took it, kudos to them, but I'm not that interrested in subsidizing the continued success of GameStop or Best Buy by forcing publishers to make millions of BluRay discs for games I could just as easily download. No one is shedding any tears these days for Blockbuster video or Tower Records as we have all moved on to instant streaming movies and purchasing music online. Steam shows the same thing can work for games, and why should GameStop be able to siphon off money out of the loop between developers, publishers and consumers? MS has been clumsy about it, but I think we will all benefit if they can forcibly push the whole console ecosystem to where in the end I think everyone agrees it should be in three or five years' time.

Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
It's the "we want what we want, and damn the torpedoes (or the cost, or the pitfalls to the provider of our entertainment)", from my perspective. Sony's announcement was last-minute, and technically, was not much more than a PR stunt. A good shot across the bow, to be sure, but they didn't decide the DRM course of action until MS showed their cards, and the reaction was seen. Truthfully, the only games that aren't subject to DRM at Sony are the first party titles. It's fair game on all the rest of them, and make no mistake...it will be done. That's why I think E3 is largely useless from a hardware perspective. It's all smoke and mirrors, and sleight of hand. Gotta hand it to Sony...they pulled a sleight of hand that Kris Angel would be proud of. But it just isn't all that it's being made out to be.webdanzer wrote:What do you see as the sense of entitlement, here?Zeppo wrote: And I do find Sony to be pandering to the basest fears and sense of entitlement the vocal hardcore gamers are prone to.

Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
I never owned the Kinect and only used it a handful of times but I'm exciting about what developers could do with it now that they know every XB1 owner will have one. Personally, I think it would be great if I could call out line changes or strategies on the fly in NHL 15 using the Kinect. I've always found using the controller to quickly do line changes rather cumbersome, especially when trying to concentrate on actually dumping the puck into the zone.Zeppo wrote:One thing I like about having Kinnect "shoved down our throats" as well as having "always connected" being a built in feature of the system is that it avoids the dreaded contradictions and complications of the "add on device." I agree. MS should have done a lot more to show the convenience of online digital distribution instead of just assuming people will "get" it. Maybe I just haven't been looking hard enough but I haven't seen any demos of the way you can access your game library. They should be showing how you can pre-purchase a game and watch as it pre-downloads before the game is released so it's ready to play as soon as launch day arrives at 12AM. They should have had videos of the game library screen, showing off features such as sorting games by genre or ESRB rating. They should show that it can automatically download and install updates for games BEFORE you even get the desire to play said games. They should basically be showing everyone how awesome Steam can be and how they are going to do the same thing and more.Zeppo wrote:I do think MS's messaging has been clumsy and frankly rather awful. I think Microsoft is moving in the right direction. They know that this is the future and they are making the necessary steps to get there. They've just done a poor job of conveying to the consumer why they think this is important and how it can be a benefit to everyone.

Same with me. 99 percent XBOX 360 gamer this gen, XBL member since day one when it came out on the first Xbox. But if the arrogant smug execs over at MS want to flush that history and loyalty down the toilet, be my guest. I'll take my loyalty over to Sony and be a 99 percent PS4 gamer next gen.
Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
I'm trying really hard to see what is meant by "arrogance". Seems to me that the hyperbole in here far exceeds any arrogance over there. They made a business decision. You don't like it. So....tell me how that's arrogance again? I would agree that it wasn't the best thing to tell people who don't have an internet connection that they can buy a 360. Better to say, "you know what? I understand the concerns. I really do. And we looked at them long and hard before coming to the decision we made. It wasn't easy, but there's so much to balance, and we want to bring the best we can to the world we live in now" or something of the sort. "Let them eat cake" wasn't prudent.
But really now...how many of you DON'T have an internet connection, or DON'T currently have XBL? If you have both, and aren't planning on living off the grid anytime soon...what difference does all of that make? Now new games, used games...I sort of get all that, but if the developers are going to go the nickel and dime/DRM route anyway, then all that used game stuff won't matter much anyway. Besides, it DOES hurt the developers and lines the pockets of the Gamestops some of you love to loathe so much. So I guess I'm a little lost as to the charges of arrogance and loyalty and all that. Would it be more loyal for MS to come to E3 and announce "hey, we love your loyalty to us so much, we're just going to stick with the Xbox 360 for another 8 years", or "The Xbox One is going to be exactly like the Xbox 360". Truth is, Sony isn't offering much different, despite the smoke and mirrors brashness.
I honestly don't get it.

In an interview filmed prior to Microsoft’s E3 2013 press briefing and published on GameTrailers, Microsoft’s Don Mattrick has addressed concerns about the compulsory connectivity requirements of Xbox One.
“"Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity; it’s called Xbox 360,” said Mattrick.
“If you have zero access to the Internet, that is an offline device.”
That's not arrogant????

Jason,
It is often about principal. If we (consumers) let companies keep pushing the line, then there is no line.
As far as the Division, I have no idea what it is about and I watched it with no audio.... but it looks amazing. The UI looks fantastic. I am going to show it to some people at work to see if we can incorporate some of the navigational elements into our UI.
As someone that has been doing games and simulations for 3 years now, I couldn't imagine working on a project like that. I can't imagine the number of artists it took to make all of those textures.. and the effects like smoke coming off the buildings is pretty complex... good stuff.
