All I can say is thank god Andruw was not traded. My love affair would have had to transfer to Francoeur or McCann.

Very cool, Soriano is still a National. Now, if they can lock him up for a few years, we may have the start of something......

The nats just need to figure out how not to get 50% of their pitchers on the DL.

Even though I think the whole clutch hitting BS is way overblown, you have to marvel at how uncanny Ortiz is in those situations. It's really amazing.

Beer-belly Wells was horrible, but I wouldn't count him out just yet. He always bounces back.

Crucial three game series between the Yankees & Jays tonight for a spot in the playoffs run. With the acquisition of Abreu, where will G. Sheffield play once he comes back from his injury? DH? We'll see which A.J Burnett shows up tonight.

Huge game tonight...let's see how the boys bounce back after a tough time out west.

AJ will be roasted in the media if he doesn't come up with a solid outing.

Utley's streak is to 34 games now. Unbelievable.

I wonder if I would be looking too hard into the 5-1 record the Phils got going since the Abreu trade as meaning something

What's sick is that the Phillies are only 3.5 games out of the wildcard. The NL is dismal.

But, knowing this team, they will lose 5 in a row very soon.

With J. Varitek out for the season, BOS had to do something now that the Yankees are hot, so they get Javy Lopez behind the plate. Any hope of the Jays getting a wildcard spot is pretty much gone as they lost all three games to NY.

Andruw Jones put on waivers by the Braves and claimed by a couple of unknown teams.

Braves have 48 hours to trade Jones to the team with the worst record of those who claimed him or stick with him 'till the end of the season.

Jones gains 10 and 5 rights in august 15 so after that he could veto any trade involving him.

Boy, he must be a happy camper right now...

To get to the White Sox, Jones would have to pass through the entire NL and then all but the Tigers, Red Sox, and Yankees. At least I think that's how it works...and I hope it is!

Dave is right. First he would have to get through the entire NL from worst to first before getting to the AL.

Yes he is but Javey Lopez made it through to the BoSox just fine...The rumor I just read is that the team that claimed him is the Red Sox again..

I like how everyone is making a big deal of this. Virtually all of the Braves pass through waivers EVERY year (that's how Scheurholz does it)...just because he's almost a 10/5 player doesn't mean he is going to get moved. The Braves got a hometown discount for him the first time, and they will likely get the same after he becomes a FA next year. He is not going anywhere.

100's and 100's of players get put on waivers every year...and they get claimed every year. All the team has to do is pull them off of waivers and everything is back to normal. Javy didn't get claimed because he is GROSSLY overpaid and only the richest or most desperate teams (Bo-Sox fit both categories nicely) put a claim on a guy like that. They only put players on waivers to see if they will pass through and be available to trade to ANYONE. Now that he has been claimed (which he has been claimed the last 4 years now), they can only trade him to the team with the worst record who was awarded their claim. That severly hurts any chance of Andruw getting traded, especially when the other team knows he's going to be a FA after next year and he's a 10/5 right after they get him.

I'll be pissed if he gets traded, but it's really really not very likely. It's the same s*** every year.

You like....
"It'd be nice if somebody from the Braves' [front] office came and told me," Jones said. "I think it's rude. Somebody should at least call and say, 'Hey, it's nothing,' or maybe, 'It's something.' "

And would it be offensive if it were something?

"Yeah, it'd still be messed up, because you're talking about one of your players that you've had here forever," Jones said of his career with Atlanta, which will reach its 10th anniversary on Aug. 15. "I don't think they would do that with Chipper [Jones] or 'Smoltzie' [John Smoltz] if it happened when they were available for stuff like that."
When you play the game, you don't think about that stuff, you just go out there and play," Jones said. "It happens or it doesn't. I would just appreciate it if somebody, [Braves general manager John] Schuerholz or [assistant GM] Frank Wren, would pick up the phone and say, 'Andruw, it's just rumors' or whatever.

Your boy doesn't...

Andruw responds to rumors

He wasn't traded...which was my point. And he won't be anytime soon. I don't know what the hell you're babbling about.

Of all the people A. J. Burnett ends the Jays' 7 games skid as he outpitches J. Contreras.

NYY's J. Posada plays his 330th start as a catcher and with that he jumps to a nice 12 million salary increase for 07.

Against the Tigers tonight, Justin Morneau became the first Minnesota Twin to hit 30 homers in one season since 1987. Talk about an embarassingly long drought.

Hey Dave,

Garza looks like he's the real deal. Got roughed up in his first inning, but you can see the unlimited potential this guy has. Great curveball to go along with a blazing fastball.

Let's just hope the Jays beat him tonight, but all the success to him and the Twins!

Looks like the only thing unlimited will be his ERA for awhile...
