You know if we ever met I would have a delima. Shake your hand or kick you in the nuts. Just to be safe you might consider wearing a cup.dbdynsty25 wrote: I know, that's why it was REALLY funny. It just goes to show that even DSPals aren't immune to a light ribbing.bdoughty wrote:You know if we ever met I would have a delima. Shake your hand or kick you in the nuts. You really didn't just try to tie in someone's political affiliation with their video game preferences did you?GTHobbes wrote:Guess I got my answer then. The same guys who have loved Madden for all these years aren't about to change now. Out of curiousity, Scoop, Dan, and Boom, you guys are all Republicans aren't you? Just a guess. You'll always have guys like me so long as there are guys like you who like to keep their head stuck in the sand.
To answer your question, no, I'm not a republican. In all honesty I hate politics as much as I hate organized religion. Why, you ask? Because people who follow either/both closely tend to try to tell me how I should feel or what I should think instead of being accepting of how I feel or what I think. Pretty hypocritical if you ask me. I share beliefs from both sides of the political spectrum so i guess you can call me a Demolican.
I'd rather have my head in the sand than up my ass.

I couldn't agree with you more Scoop i've been doing this since the stone age of video gamesScoopBrady wrote:We get it, you don't like Madden 360. It looks like the same old, same old to you. You're not going to get the game. Yada, yada, yada. I'm getting it because it's a football game on a new system. Football games are my favorite and the best thing to me is playing a new football on a new system. I got a DC because I had to play NFL 2k. I got an Xbox because I had to play Fever. Now I'm getting a 360 because I've got to play Madden. I know you don't think it's a new game but to me it looks new. The graphics, presentation, animations, and the way the players move make it look like a new football game to me. I can't wait to get some time with this in all of it's High Def glory. These net videos are nice for a tease but it will look much better in HD.GTHobbes wrote:Is anyone really impressed by the new (11/10) videos over at IGN? Based on that other 360 thread, it seems like this game is on everyone's list. For the life of me, I can't figure out why everyone around here is so willing to drop $60 on this one, other than the name. I know you have to give a game a chance, but I think I've seen all that I need to see.
Hmm, it would be interesting to see a geographical distribution of game sales. NCAA probably would have more sales in the red states than Madden would, especially probably in SEC areas.
I think there's guarded optimism about Madden 360. IF they did nothing else but up the resolution and geometry, it'll still have some appeal to a lot of people who can't afford or are interested in a PC rig.
It may have a lot of the same animations and flaws like suction blocking but the overall feel of it and how it plays will be different. Believe it or not, Madden 2003 plays differently from 2004 from 2005 and from 2006. You can't play them the same way or use the same tactics across these games, even though the basic engine is the same and they only tweaked the gameplay while hyping up new superficial features like the Hit Stick. These cumulative tweaks add up to a substantially different experience. You can't run the exact same plays from last year's playbooks and expect the same dynamics and results.
The people who preferred NFL2Kx games and are embittered by the exclusivity deal need to let go. If you like sports games, then you won't take part in any silly boycotts. Can you deny yourself a football game for at least 5 years and still consider yourself a sports gamer? Isn't that more important than party affiliation?

I'd be willing to bet a paycheck that most of EA's (and Sony's PS2) sales come from Wal Marts in the red states. They see the EA box and it's like Pavlov's dog.wco81 wrote:Hmm, it would be interesting to see a geographical distribution of game sales. LMAO!dbdynsty25 wrote:Kinda like what happens when you see an EA thread maybe?GTHobbes wrote:They see the EA box and it's like Pavlov's dog.
The funny thing is I gave NFL 2k5 my GOTY for the Scoop On Sports Awards before I shut the site down. I guess I'm a freak of nature.

yeah, sorry that was an accident. I originally meant to post the 1up link, but in a rush i copy/pasted the OS thread link by accident. it took me time to view my reply and say to myself.. "oops!" to fix it.bdoughty wrote:Would you mind posting a link to the video for those of us w/o an OS account?Boom wrote:Here's some more madden info / gameplay from the 1upShow.
Very good stuff. You others with your head in the sand should check it out.

You must have been directly on my heals if you caught the original link to OS. It had been there for a total of 20 seconds tops.
With that broad brush you're using, I'm surprised you don't work in EA's art department.GTHobbes wrote:I'd be willing to bet a paycheck that most of EA's (and Sony's PS2) sales come from Wal Marts in the red states. You know what, dipshit? I have a master's degree, I can't stand George Bush, I've voted for Republicans and Democrats, I've lived in states very blue and very red, and I like Madden. It's a good football game. There are things I don't like about it, and I have enjoyed lots of other football games, but most years I think Madden is pretty solid.
We've watched videos so far. While it's perfectly reasonable to comment on those, making sweeping declarations based on those snippets is worthless. No one really knows how this is going to play and won't know for a couple more weeks. So if you want to discuss things like an adult, please pull up a chair and join us. If you're going to continue shitting the same three talking points into your posts, please return to the kids table.
You have a good weekend, too, there Brando.
My point was, plenty of people thought Bush lost the election. The Republican response: tough s***...if you don't like it, too bad.
Plenty of people don't like Madden: The typical Madden lover response: tough s***, don't buy it.
Never met a more closed minded person in my life than a big time Madden fan. Some Republicans come close, not all, but many. Just belittle anyone who disagrees with anything they say. Juvenille name calling is another big part of their shtick. (What's the name of that Anne Coulter book again?)
So my attitude might as well start changing as well: If you don't like it, tough s***, dipshit.

Who said tough s***?
Anyways, an election is a touch more serious business than video games so the comparison seems labored.
It seems for some people, it's not enough just to not buy Madden. They have to convince as many others as possible not to buy Madden.
I understand the idea of trying to punish EA for not doing a good enough product or for anti-competitive actions. But a grass-roots consumer action such as a boycott rarely seems to work. I think DiVX is a notable exception but otherwise, it seems it's not that easy to generate enough collective outrage for such actions to work, despite this communications medium called the web.
I have no plans to buy it either but that new-football-game-on-a-new-console may get me yet.

Plenty of Republicans wanted Clinton impeached for the whole Monica Lewinski ordeal. What was the Democrats response? Somewhere along the lines of tough s***, if you don't like it, too bad.GTHobbes wrote:You have a good weekend, too, there Brando.

I've never met a more closed minded person in my life than an anti-EA activist. You haven't even played the game yet but you've already formed an opinion about it without all the evidence. Seems pretty closed-minded to me.GTHobbes wrote:Never met a more closed minded person in my life than a big time Madden fan. Some Republicans come close, not all, but many. The Poli Sci 101 comparison between Madden and political affiliation may be anal, but it's not analysis.GTHobbes wrote:You have a good weekend, too, there Brando.

The only thing more annoying than the fanboy is the anti-fanboy, the person who has to don his hairshirt and rail against the mindless masses who do what they are told and buy games he deems contemptable.
Actually, I think most Democrats' response was, "You're making this big of a deal over a blow job??" And for the record, I'm more independent than I am Democrat. When the best a party can come up with is Al Gore and Joe Lieberman, you've lost my vote.ScoopBrady wrote: Plenty of Republicans wanted Clinton impeached for the whole Monica Lewinski ordeal. Took me awhile to figure it out, but I guess if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.ScoopBrady wrote:I've been getting that impression before this post.
To be honest, Brando, I could give a rat's ass what game you blow your money on. It's a free country. If you want to spend $59.99 + tax on the latest trash from Tiburon, be my guest. But the beautiful thing about this great country of ours is, if I don't like the product that EA/Tiburon is offering, I'm free to speak my mind without getting hauled off by the secret police. You and plenty of others might be tired of reading about the GLARING problems with Madden. Too bad Tiburon also isn't tired of reading about them, to the point where they'd do something to fix them.Brando70 wrote:

Why would you say that, Boom? Because I'm letting a few Madden fans get me all riled up? Don't worry, there's plenty of people who feel just like me. They just don't care enough to keep rehashing the same old arguments. To me, it never gets old. If it did, I just wouldn't read the post/thread.Boom wrote:I think maybe you still haven't figured it out.
Hope I don't piss off any veterans here on veterans day by staying with the politics stuff in this thread, but here's the first paragraph of the lead story over at USA Today:
"President Bush, in the most forceful defense yet of his Iraq war policy, accused critics Friday of trying to rewrite history and charged that they're undercutting America's forces on the front lines."
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington ... -day_x.htm
Like I was saying,
"Don't like what we're doing, tough s***...and let me turn the tables and try to make you look like an idiot for even having the balls to question us in the first place." I think its all pretty ironic, and I don't mean to offend anyone who has actually served anywhere...especially not today. I might not agree with the war, but I damned sure don't have anything against any one who is in the service.
