I'm honestly starting to believe the people who claim the game was designed to have the most realistic stats on Varsity. I'm using Jistic's A-A sliders on Varsity, and I'm seeing very realistic passing and drop numbers from both teams.

Maybe it's my lack of skill at this game, I don't know. And I know that doesn't help the pigskin gurus who would dominate on any level but Heisman.

All I know is that I'm seeing more realism on Varsity with Jistic's sliders than I have in any football game I've played in a long time. It suits me perfectly.

If only you cats sucked as bad as I do ... then you'd be happy!

But it's so much smarter and worthwhile to come here and complain about the people complaining

For the record, I have no problem with people saying what they feel here. I don't think any of us are making these up just to feel a sense of self worth or anything like that. Not all people have the same issues with games, but that's why we all visit here, to discuss games, issues and all.

I just played 3 quarters of a game (had to give up the TV to my toddler..LOL) on varsity with Jistics sliders and the score was 7-7! It was a very entertaining game. I really couldn't say it was easier...just different and it seemed slower. Both teams passed for over 50% completion and running was challenging but fair (even with a CPU impact back). The worst thing was the super easy kick meters, but I had the most fun I've had with the game yet.

Hey, maybe I'm not insane! Seriously, I've played nearly all of my offline games of NCAA 06 straight and sober with Jistic's sliders, so this isn't an altered mind talking like in Rivals!

Then again, I'm not half-bad in Rivals, so maybe I should get f*cked up while playing NCAA 06. :)

Seriously, glad the sliders are working for you, too, Leebo. I've had a wide variety of games with the sliders, too. Had a classic 14-7 loss at Florida State in the rain at Tallahassee in my Syracuse dynasty, and the same night Michigan State edged me playing as Michigan, 46-45, at the Big House in my No. 1 All-Time game as I completely collapsed in the fourth quarter. That game racked up something like 1,900 points alone on the All-Time meter -- off the charts!

Really fun.

Late to the party, but played my first two complete games of NCAA 06.I used Kentucky, and matched them up with 1-AA Idaho State(their "gimme" game this year).
I went with AA default,8 min. quarters, for the first game.I won 81-41 in a game that featured 12 turnovers(6 per side).I returned 4 kicks for TD's,3 punts and a kickoff. That plus 300 yards rushing got me the win.
For the second game I went with default Heisman,8 min. quarters.
Idaho State's impact RB toted the rock 40 times for 347 yards,220 after contact.I lost,41-34.I "only" managed 1 punt return touchdown in this game.Is anyone else able to return kicks so easy?

I think the sub in/out slider is broken, players almost never come out of the game with the sliders maxed.

Evidently,RB ability is really juiced this year.
The passing and receiver drops are about on par with last year's game truth be told.

I think tweaking Heisman may be the way to go this year,as that game seemed less wild and out of control, like the AA game.Of course,I need to play more matchups, but this game is certainly feeling like a "Big Play Fest" so far.

#@! DAMN YOU PEOPLE. Here I am, with Almanac work to do, wife and kid in bed, and now I want to fire up the game to test out some friggin Varsity sliders because I want so badly for this game to be as good as it is for most everyone else.

JRod I hear you man. Nearly every game I play the CPU is under 50% passing as well. I have learned to live with that though since the game has always been like this. If it's near 50% for the CPU I'm happy. 6-30, yeah, thats just dumb.

As for the drops, my problem is this:

I can tweak the sliders and fix the drops. If I play 99/99 I'll have a game like Todd had where I drop 9 balls, but they are very rare. If I do that, though, I can throw deep at will. If I fix the deep ball, I'll drop 7-10 open passes a game and want to smash my controller. It's a terrible catch22, at least for me.

Truth be told, you played 2 games Tjung. I'd wait a little longer before you start making statements like that as a lot of people aren't having issues with the drops.

It's not RB ability that's juiced imo, it's the blockers abilities. Which I have remedied with sliders.

As far as the passing, I am not seeing this in any way, shape or form. On AA, I haven't touched the passing sliders.

I just went 13/16 for 135 yards with Reggie McNeal. Threw 1 long ball, and that was incomplete. On the season McNeal is completing 63% of his passes. I do rarely throw deep. Maybe once or twice a game, as I don't seem to have much success at it.

Online, I have been under 50% passing in just a handful of my games. Most of the time I am in the 55-65% range.

But alot of people on message boards are.
Go to OS or read Bill's blog.
Remember,I was using default sliders.I will max the catch sliders and go.The drops weren't a game killer for me last year so I'm sure they won't be this year.

Pk,

I suck as bad as you, so I'm sure an online game against you would be an instant ESPN Classic. That said, I'm going to try Jistic's sliders on Varsity this evening. Do you just enter in the code or did you manually change the sliders?

EDIT: How many revisions has Jistic made? There's over ten pages of discussion on his slider post. Do you have a link to the ones you are using?

Thanks.

Dan:

I entered the sliders manually. There aren't that many, and I wanted to be sure.

I'm using Version 3.

I'd like to play you some night online! We can call the game the inaugural Toilet Bowl. :)

Take care,
PK

Thanks. I look forward to trying them this evening. I am this close to shelving the game or trading it in towards Madden. If these sliders bring the "fun" back in to this game, I'll gladly hold on to it.

Toilet Bowl indeed. Lets put it this way. I've started my Kansas dynasty now three times. My first opponent is the ever powerful Florida Atlantic, or I assume that's what FAI stands for. Anyways, they're airing the ball left and right against me. Deep ball, play fakes, bombs. I swear it's like the seniors against the freshman. In reality, KU isn't that great but their D is fairly solid. Still, they should beat this team anywhere from 14-21 points in my estimation. I was getting my arse kicked up and down the field.

Just remember to use these sliders on Varsity. Jistic designed them for All-American, but they're working great for me on Varsity.

Don't worry. AA is no joy. We all play at different levels, and I've come to accept my mediocre talents with many video games. Truth be told, without message boards I probably have been enjoying this game for the past couple weeks instead of becoming more and more frusturated. See, I have a habit of thinking that the skill level the majority of folks are playing, I too should be playing. WRONG.

Thanks again.

Also, the first code (offense) I believe the k should be lower case. He has it as upper case.

I tried these last night. Played Purdue at ND(me). My first drive I went right down the field, mixed some nice runs and passes, scored a TD. Then held Purdue 3 and out, then drove again for a field goal. At this point, I am thinking it is too easy. Well, the Purdue D stiffened and their offense came alive. I fumbled once and threw a pick and at half was down 17-10. The game was about my speed. I had some time to throw and running got to be more difficult. Because I put it to 9 minute qtrs, I had to stop at halftime. I don't know if the 9 minutes is needed to keep it realistic, but that will be some long games.

I'm in the same ship as you. When I tried these sliders at A-A and got killed, I thought, "What is wrong with me? Why is everyone else on Heisman, and I get blasted on A-A?"

Then I said, "I don't give a f*ck" and switched to Varsity with these sliders. It's been pure bliss since then. I'm having fun -- that's all that matters.

I'm using seven-minute quarters. I end up with around 110 plays per game, which is a bit short of reality. But the stats are pretty good, and it does save a bit of time from an already long game, 75 minutes or so.

I'm glad I'm not the only one still playing Varsity. For me, there's enough challenge on this level at this point. Perhaps some day, with hard work and prayer, I, too can make the leap to AA. But for now, count me in among those playing in the TBCS (Toilet Bowl Championship Series)

I use 7 minute quarters.

The other night I was playing on AA and struggling on defense and my wife said, "What are other people saying about the game? What is it like for people that don't suck?"

I'm content at leaving the quarters at 6 minutes. I'm not that in to realism. Six minutes a quarter is still around a 40-45 minute game.

I just had possibly my best game ever in video football. I was Ohio State at Michigan and won 37-34. I got lucky to win because I converted a 4th and 10 on my last drive on a tipped ball that bounced right to a WR. I think Henne was 14/24 and 200. Hart had 136 on 24 carries. I passed 17/24 with 3 picks. 2 were totally my fault and one was a tipped pass. Michigan shut down my running game for most of the game, but I hammered away for 120 yards on a lot of carries.

My biggest complaint is that Michigan kicked off deep with 1 second left in the first half and I took it back all the way.

Having the run blocking sliders at zero for the human seems to be the key.
