I've gotten hooked on the engineer class; there are many matches where I don't fire a shot, but rather find a good defensible spot and toss the UAV up for my teammates the whole round. I also spend most of my time in the 'single bomb/carry to a spot and detonate' mode. It's great to be able to fly the UAV and spot the bomb carrier for the team, provided someone doesn't shoot it down or toss an EMP grenade in my area.

I'm really looking forward to this game the more I play it. The level of teamwork and strategy is better than anything I've played recently.
I like the game a lot. But I have spent most of my time in the beta just trying to get used to the feel, pace and maps. I am a tad confused on all the gadgets and classes. Which is a bummer because I know that's where the game becomes more interesting and strategic. Like I cannot figure out what my "alternate" camera gadget does. And I still am not really sure what gadget is the one that makes the other team show up red. I have no idea how to "hack" into an enemy. I haven't even seen a UAV yet. Etc, etc... I guess I'm getting old and need a tutorial or a manual or something before I jump into these games.

So - put it this way - I definitely see the potential and will be buying it on launch day, no question.

My gripes at this point are the map sizes and lack of dynamic terrain.

I'm going to pass on this one for at least a week or two after release day. I sense limited hype and enthusiasm for this game at DSP, and if a steady group of DSP cats aren't playing online, I'm not very interested.

Sad to say, but this game appears to have "Flavor of the Month" written all over it. Hope I'm wrong; I'd love to see a good military shooter have the online popularity and staying power of Tiger Woods 2013 around here.

But I'm going to wait to see if either GR: FS or Sniper Elite V2 catch fire here. Both of them won't -- guaranteed. Neither might, either.

Smart move. I'm going to try it out and I REALLY want to like it. But I have some credit at GS so it's not a big deal if it doesn't last. The thing that is a total seller for me is the 4 player co-op for the entire campaign!

That's a big plus. Four-player co-op in OFP: RR is fantastic. One of my most enjoyable experiences since returning to consoles last November.

The other thing that this game has that will help give it DSP legs is actual private matches!!!

Finally tried the demo tonight. Man, this game is doing absolutely nothing for me. Such a far cry in both feel and execution from the brilliant GR games of long ago.

Is there any way to switch to first-person view all the time? It's disorienting as hell to switch between third-person out, third-person zoom and first-person zoom.

Not impressed. Will try more, though, before I leave for Indy next week.

I don't ever use the FPS view. This game is more like GR2, which was totally third person, if I remember. My original impression wasn't altogether positive, either, PK, so keep at it. The default game type isn't my favorite, either. I like it, but I don't love it. The sabotage (or whatever it's called) mode, where you have to work together to get the bomb, then deliver it to the enemy site and detonate, is wonderful stuff. But it took a few rounds for me to get the vibe of the game. I absolutely can't wait for the full release now.

Someone asked what the camera you place on the ground did. It will highlight enemies who may be attempting to flank you, if you place it in a blind spot. The engineers have a 'reveal' grenade that does the 'turning dudes red' thing. The cool thing is that the enemy doesn't know when they've been revealed. The UAV also highlights any enemy it 'sees' within a particular area you have it pointed. (and no, you can't kill anyone with the UAV by 'landing' on them...thank god)

All this came about as I continued to play it. I have to admit, my first impression wasn't terribly favorable, but as I've kept coming back, and started to rack up XP, and figure out all the little things, it's become a joy to play. Private play looks like it will allow a whole slate of 16 players in vs mode, which is fantastic.

All that to say, if your first impressions aren't good, my suggestion is to keep playing. One night early next week, I'd even like to get a few of us together and work as a team; that might really help.

Wow Teal - GREAT call on never using the fully zoomed in aim (unless sniping). I just improved my game SO much by only using the regular aim trigger and not the full zoom click. There is no need for it. It doesn't seem to increase accuracy and just shrinks your surrounding awareness.

I need a few DSP escorts to show me the ropes. Maybe there's a great game in there somewhere, but I can't find it.

If you have an Ubisoft Uplay account you should really check this out:

It's a 20 minute prequel to Ghost Recon: Future Soldier.

Would love to get a roll call of who's planning on picking this up next week. Very curious if we'll have enough folks to be able to do private matches.

I'm getting it.
