They did look sharp. I'm getting the vibe the Flyers are going to be hot and cold for a bit until they figure out their identity better. They looked unstoppable the first two games of the year and then extremely ordinary the past 3. I still like the acquisitions and look of the team. Wayne Simmonds jerseys are sold out at the Wells Fargo Center. Philly loves him. Pretty cool column about his impact so far below.

Simmonds is great but Schenn seems to have disrupted the chemistry.

UGLY high stick catches Pronger in Flyers Leafs game. He went directly to locker room. Hope it's not too bad.

Post game reported the swelling was too bad for the eye specialist to diagnose. It's a wait and see.

Pronger is a renowned macho man. He could set a hell of a good precedent for the NHL if he returned with a visor. There's no valid excuse not to wear one.

Geez, it just pains me to see guys not protecting their eyes. Look what happened to M. Malhotra. He literally almost lost his vision in a freaky accident last season and still hasn't and probably will never be 100%.

Yzerman has tried to get his guys to all wear visors. The NHL just needs to make it mandatory. People may say that players should have the right to choose, but to me this is no different than the mandatory helmet rule. There was some complaining when that rule came into play but players got over it real quick. The same would be true with visors. The teams need to be able to protect their investments and a mandatory rule would save the macho guys any shame since they would all have to wear them by rule.

How many breakaway chances did TO allow #68 tonight? He still got the hands and I always liked his patented salute.

J. Markstrom absolutely stoned the Habs tonight. Kid was amazing, reminded me of the performance of H. Lundqvist against the Canucks early last week although the Swede was perfect. The heat is on J. Martin in 'La Belle Province' as they can't buy a win at home, but personally I don't think he's the problem.

The word on Pronger is bed rest for a few days and will rejoin the team in a few weeks if everything goes well. The Flyers will also make him wear a visor at that time.

Between Malhotra and Berard, eye injuries not good news at all.

Crazy Flyers game against Jets. Was 6-2 Jets, now 7-6 Flyers!

I almost turned it off when the Flyers conceded 5 straight to make it 5-1. Then they go on their own 5 goal run to make it 7-6. Of course that lead lasted about 30 seconds, and 8-7 Jets. When the Flyers tied it 8-8 I thought they would win. Ah well, 9-8 Jets and the Flyers lose again.

The lack of defensive effort on the ninth goal was particularly disgraceful.

Good Lord! Did Hawerchuk suit up for the Jets and rekindle his glory days from the early 80s?

Can't remember ever seeing anything quite like the Jets game tonight. How do you blow a 4-goal lead, twice? Awesome to see the Jets bounce right back after Phi tied it at 8. Happy for their fans.

When the 4th line is your most consistent line for the month of October it just tells you how much Canucks have struggled so far. With the high powered Caps in town, the team raised their game level up a notch while the grinding line of Lapierre, Wiese and Volpatti continued to play well. There are still some loose screws on D that need tightening but overall a much better collective effort at home.

Five games suspension for A. Sutton for this hit to the head.

No problem with that. His head was always at that same height. No excuse for nailing his head.

Early Early prediction. Barring a slew of injuries, I think the hawks will be skating the Cup again. They are deep and they are good.

Sutton was a head-hunter in Atlanta, too. Looks like the change in address hasn't resulted in a change in attitude.

Sutton plays like a moron way too much. Glad to see him get that suspension. Well deserved.

Can't really figure out the 'Nucks so far in this young season. Needless to say, it's been frustrating to watch them. They started their 6 games road trip this week with a walk in cowtown beating the hapless Flames in their own yard 5-1, only to lose by the same score against Minny on Thursday in what was perhaps the most appalling non show this season by all the players except C. Schneider. A much better effort against the Blues last night but felt short 3-2. The D is still playing as if nobody knows anybody out there, no chemistry at all, and when you have Sami Salo (who's got a groin injury) at 37 being your most consistent D-man, then this team has a serious hangover from the SC finals, something similar happening in Bean town.

Hope the match up on Sunday against the Hawks wakes them up a bit, if that rivalry doesn't, they'll be in trouble. Of course injuries always play a big part but guys need to be stepping it up more.

Needless to say the surprise of the West so far are the young Oilers as the Bulin wall continues to shine and those bloody Leafs in the East who seem to score at will.

The big difference for the Oil: Khabibulin is sober. I'm not joking, either.
