DIRT 2

Yes, there is definitely rumble in the final release.
People continue to gush about this game:
Team Xbox (9.2/10)
A lot of times when we review games here at TeamXbox, we don’t really end up playing them all that much after the review is done—even the good ones. But Dirt 2 is one of those games I can pick up at any time and still have a great time. And that simple designation is the best recommendation I can possibly give a game.
Strategy Informer (9.3/10)
DiRT 2 is without doubt the most comprehensive and utterly playable off-road racing game we’ve ever played. The overall racing experience is never anything but pleasurable, the depth and range of challenges on offer lending massive longevity and the presentation is also nothing short of exceptional. A pitch perfect balance between immediate arcade playability and detailed realism make DiRT 2 a rally game for every race fan out there. Put simply, this is without doubt the best racing game you’re likely to play this year.

Dirt 2 sounds like fun. I'll get it for sure but once it drops in price. It'll be interesting to see if Strategy Informer gives Forza 3 equally high marks.toonarmy wrote:Yes, there is definitely rumble in the final release.

I went back and played more of the demo and its growing on me very quickly. That race where you are on a staggered start racing on a long winding course that ends up going thru a little town near the end, is just a blast. No way is this too arcadey! It's tough to keep your car on the track when you really push the speed. You have to learn throttel control and braking to take the turns properly. Having 3 replays helps tremendously
I went from maybe getting this to now definitely.

I'll probably cave and get it tomorrow, so I'll be around to race wit youze, Mac!
These great review scores are freaking me out. I mean, they are some high scores! And while it appears there is a lot less regular rally content than last time, I'm not sure what to believe. Everyone said the last game didn't have much rally content, whereas the reality was there was quite a bit of rally content under the surface, while the career progression mode indeed had little in comparison to the other goodies.
So I don't know what to believe. But these ridiculously good reviews are making it hard for me to wait for the gamefly.

I read some article that said a good friend of Colin McRae's is in the game, and he made sure there were some traditional rally stages in this in honor of Colin. And yeah, the great reviews are beginning to have an effect on me, as well. I re-downloaded the demo, and decided to try NOT to scream around the track like an idiot with the gas pedal to the floor. Surprise, surprise...I did much better, and had more fun.Zeppo wrote:I'll probably cave and get it tomorrow, so I'll be around to race wit youze, Mac!

Mine too and "Keep It's" only $43Naples39 wrote:My gamefly copy shipped this morning meaning I will likely get it Friday.
Between the improvements to car handling found in the demo (ie braking, throttle control and sliding are actually present in the game), and the absurd reviews, I am hoping for the best.

I totally forgot to ship Prototype back because I thought this game came out next week. Needless to say Gamefly didn't ship me a copy and I doubt that I'll get it in the store with NHL 10 and NHL 2k10 coming out next week. Oh well, I'll send back Prototype and hope DIRT 2 gets to me by the time it is still in rotation here.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

Much easier to bump fenders in this game without sending your car spinning off of the track. I'm only rolling a single notch up from the default difficulty though so I'm sure they've got some kind of steering assist. That being said it was nice not to be sent flying off when someone gets into me from behind.
I'm loving this game:)

This game is everything I hoped for, and then some. The rally racing is incredible. I absolutely love the way the cars handle on the narrow rally courses, flying around corners, pushing things to the edge. The sense of speed is great. I have had a couple real nail biters so far, winning by a tenth of a second or so. The races get pretty intense, with some banging around. However, I never feel like the CPU vehicles are cheating me by ramming into my vehicle unfairly -- just good balls-out racing. I know we try not to be too big of graphics whores around here but, my goodness, this game is gorgeous. The voice work is also done well. I might as well go ahead and install this game on the hard drive. It will be seeing a lot of play time.
I didn't get to play much of the full version of DiRT 2 so far but I definitely liked what I've experienced. The only traditional Rally race I've gotten to is the Hairpin Run course from Croatia. I heard a co-driver barking out fairly detailed pace notes and everything. This game looks gorgeous, as toonarmy already pointed out. I raced in some Rally Cross rookie level event in London... and my goodness! Everyone just has to see it how nice it looks. Went over a muddy water puddle located in the middle of a slow left corner during the race and I couldn't see s--- in the dark. I still tried to power down hard on the throttle while drifting out of the exit and then suddenly "WHAM"... almost totaled the entire right side of my car. Heh, I don't think I need to explain what happened next.
There are lots of cool events in this game and the track design in these various events are fantastic. I love traditional point-to-point rally racing as much as anyone, but once you guys get a taste of these other events in DiRT 2 you really won't think about the little bit of rallying you actually do. Don't allow this single factor to deter you from getting this great game.

Okay, I have one big gripe with this game...
Why dear god does the cutscene where the 1st person view looks around the race crew area right before going back into the trailer have to happen after every race?!?!?!?? It's like he's drunk and it seriously makes me motion sick EVERY time. I have to look away now.
Race ends, the cutscene goes back to the race crew spot where the trailer is and the 1st person view looks left, then right, then spins around to the left and back into the trialer. I swear I'm getting dizzy just remembering it.
Other than that this game is tits!!!

I've barely scratched the surface, but so far I'm glad I bought this game even though it's not at the top of the rotation for me right now. The gma eis really fun. It does look like there isn't a lot of true rally stuff but as Kruza said, there is so much fun stuff in here, that I don't realy mind. I mean, I'd love to have a deep, engaging true rally game, but for what it is, Dirt 2 is really good. It looks amazing (I just LOVE the eyes in the dashboard skull), sounds good, feels great, feels fast, and the cockpit view for whatever reason is really working for me so far. I'm sure I'll have to switch to the bonnet cam for some of the tougher stuff, but the cockpit cam is so damn good I'm trying to stuck with it.
