It looks amazing. Not sure how I feel about them claiming a "great pitcher will have the upper hand against weaker batters" and vice versa. Ummmmmm... duh?

The animations are something to see. Hopefully they'll look nice and fluid during the actual gameplay and not too jumpy between animations.

I have a 360 and a PS2. This may be a dumb question, but do you think these improvements will be for the PS2 version also?

Unless 2K9 makes significant improvements, I may purchase the PS2 version for my baseball gaming this year. The core gameplay is so much better that I will accept the graphics hit.

I wouldn't rule out 2K9 as being junk just yet. VC has taken over the reins so it should at the very least be much better than last years effort.

Wrt MLB The Show. The PS3 gets most of the newer graphics updates along with gameplay tweaks after which get filtered down to the PS2 version.

it is a "duh" moment but it was also something that wasn't too readily present in previous iterations. I think what they are saying is that you will finally see and feel a difference pitching with a top notch pitcher as opposed to a 5th starter.

And while a lot of gaming companies will have a new feature and then abuse it, I have not yet seen SCEA do that with the Show. So hopefully they will stay on par and make it noticeable but not to where it feels like cheating.

Sounding very nice, and of course I'm quite excited for the March release.

I do hope they fix one particular issue that has bothered me for a while. When fielding a ground ball, there are times the fielder will hold on to the ball too long when turning a double play, allowing a sure fire DP to result in the inning continuing or a run scoring.

They talk about being able to go the short route for the 3rd out now (3rd to 2nd instead of 3rd to 1st), and they spoke about how players can catch a ball on the run now as well. It seemed like last year when trying to turn a DP you had to wait for the 2nd baseman or SS to get to the bag before the throw animation would start, maybe this year it will speed things up since they can catch on the run.

Credit goes to magoo1967 from OS for finding this nugget (I'm pumped about the vintage stadium(s) part):

"I'm not sure if you guys already saw this, but I sure didn't. I was looking at the last playstation blog on MLB '09 (the one about the improved AI) and if you read the comments, Chris Gill from the MLB team replied to comment #108 as follows:

The post reads:

SkoalEdge | January 21st, 2009 at 7:43 am

You guys have done a fantastic job with this game. I really didnt think 08 could get much better but I guess it can. Few questions…

1.) Will there be vintage stadiums in the game
2.) Will there be weather?
3.) Are there any expanded perks for road to the show character creation?

Chris Gill replied on January 22, 2009 at 1:46 am

yes, yes and yes

Link to actual post (see comment #108): http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/...ge-3/#comments"

Or that I'll play anything else but this for at least 4-6 weeks after it's out.

I'm greatly hoping that improvement is made more along the lines of 'worse pitchers will get hit more' rather than 'better pitchers will get hit less.'

...Oh yeah…we also have a new level for all you guys that brag about H.O.F. Mode being too easy. It’s called Legend Mode. Good Luck!!
It's more of a complaint than a brag, but bring it. I'll believe it when I see it.

I wonder how many of the improvements will be seen on the PSP, which is the only way I can play it.

How did they manage to play-test this new difficulty level? After all, such complaints have been met for the past couple years with either disbelief (i.e. people misrepresent their skillz on message boards) or treatises on sample size and probability. Don't get me wrong, the dev that interacted with the OS community post-release last year was fantastic... I just hope they've looked beyond the old folk's home as a pool for beta testers.

No one at SCEA has been able to beat a Top 6 team yet. So it sounds like it can be ultra hard.

Also, it has been confirmed that there are NOT any vintage stadiums in the ps3 version.

On a brighter note, it has been confirmed that there are double the amount of minor league stadiums this year.

And finally another question was about hitting a line drive over the outfielders head and the answer is YES.

One of them finally managed it... a 3-0 victory over the Phillies with the Cubs.

I'm certainly looking forward to the game, no matter what. I didn't get quite what I wanted out of the single player last year, but I played in a league with a bunch of dedicated people that turned out to be excellent. And pretty much every small beef I had with the offline game seems to have been addressed to some extent... on paper, at least.

I'm not sure how to feel about them prioritizing minor league parks over vintage ones though... one of the things I LOVED about MVP was how you could just play any in-season game in a vintage park, if the spirit moved you... and I'm sure they'd be gorgeous on the PS3.

Co-sign.

I would always put the Phils in their old stadium. I don't think they had their updated one in MVP 05.

I have been wanting old time stadiums in the ps3 version for the past 3 years, so this does suck for me as well. But I do play RTTS and I think that double the minor league stadiums as a tradeoff is well worth it and will give me more satisfaction for the long term.

If I never played any minor league games or RTTS, then more minor league stadiums would not make me happy either.

I know most of you here play this on the PS3, but for those of us with a PS2, it looks as though the price will $30.

Nice.

Since I just got a PS3, I've been wanting this, but do I need to pre-order or can I walk in release day for a copy?

Walmart stores should have plenty.
