That's not what some reviewer I was reading said. He commented that the game new + the DNA will cost $80.

Sorry if this is "old news", but I guess I'm not on the cutting edge of gaming news like you Db.

Interesting clip about rebounding:

"When jumping for a rebound, or attempting a block, the momentum system also comes into play. Make sure that you understand your player must gather his momentum before jumping for the ball/block. Many people misinterpret this "gather" as some sort of lag/delay with the game -- this is not the case. When you are anticipating a rebound pay close attention to the player you are controlling, and how he reacts when jumping. Certain players will leap quicker (Kobe), and others will take some time to gather momentum (Ben Wallace). Good jumping technique is all about paying attention to the arc of the ball off the rim on a rebound, or the body position of an offensive player shooting the ball when going for a block. If you can nail the timing of the momentum-gather process on a player-by-player basis, you will be grabbing rebounds and blocking shots like a pro."
Wow I didn't know that. It's sort of like when they implemented momentum into NHL 2004 and everyone thought it was lag or unresponsive controls until PK figured out it was momentum skating.

Good find Jack !

That makes a lot of sense because I don't think the controls are sluggish at all. I was going to comment that if anything Live was more realistic in that regard because the player actually has to make the movement to support the jump he makes where in 2k you just press the button and your player gets full air every time.

That reviewer doesn't know what he's talking about. There's a code included with the game that you enter to 'activate' the DNA updates.

I'm interested to see how it works once the season gets started. I expect the Trailblazers to get better quickly in the game, I think they have the same overall rating as the Timberwolves.

Does the DNA work for preseason games?

Also, what if you keep the game from Gamefly. Will the code come with the game?

Like in real life, you cant just pop straight up in the air without having balance and proper positioning and then "preloading". If you box out, have good positioning and time the rebound right, it's very rewarding. Also, let go of the turbo button or your delay will be greater.

I'm with db, this game is still far away from being on the same level with 2K Basketball. The game is way too easy, 3's are too easy to make, players stepping out of bounds not being called. The free throw system is 100% foolproof.

I may trade it in for Fallout 3. Gamestop is giving 30% extra trade. Live only cost me $39.99 with the TRU deal.

What difficulty level are you playing on Rodster? I am not finding this game to be too easy at all. In fact, I started playing on All Star and had to bump it down to Pro to get my first win. Admitedly I have been playing with the Bulls who are pretty terrible in this game but even the Pacers and Grizzlies were pasting me on All Star. I couldn't even keep it close against Spain with Team USA on All Star. Are you really finding it too easy on the hardest difficulty setting?

I'm playing on Pro as well. I haven't tried All-Star but my biggest problem is some of the basics like players stepping out of bounds and not being called. I called Gamestop and they said it's $25 trade. I'll give it another shot before trading it. I may bump it up to All-Star and see if I get my butt kicked. Typically when it's at the toughest level it usually cheats as is typical of EA Sports games.

Rod, in the future you may want to put a disclaimer on a "This game is too easy" statement if you are only playing on the second of four difficulty levels. I know my first thought was that you were dominating on Superstar and I don't necessarily see a sports game being too easy on the Pro difficulty as such a bad thing.

The sense I get from jumping from Pro to All Star isn't that the cpu is better but that my players are more realistic. My positioning has to be better to get those rebounds, or my shots have to be open to keep up a higher shooting percentage. I know in the past EA has made the cpu more effective when upping the difficulty level making it feel like you are a victim of cheap AI but with the NHL series and now NBA Live it seems as if they've gone with the thought of making it more difficult for the user by making the user's players perform more realistically if that makes sense. In other words the shots you make with two guys draped all over you on Pro won't go in on All Star or the lazy positioning you have for defensive rebounds on Pro will get eaten up on All Star.

I'm actually playing both now. I enjoy Live for what it is...something different. An alternative to 2K.

Playing Live will also keep me familiar with the nuances of the upcoming NCAA basketball game, since it basically uses the same engine as Live and it's the only college hoops game around this year.

I have only played 2 full games with Live, but I am enjoying this game WAY more than I anticipated. It is just flat out FUN! Once you learn how to box out and time your jump properly, rebounding is like a mini game unto itself.
I can't wait to see how the DNA/NBA360 thing works once the season starts. They also have a Be A Pro mode like NHL09 does.

I am not finding the game too easy and barely beat Miami (as Atlanta) in my last game on Pro. I do have to learn the controls better though. It's a little cumbersome to hold down the right bumper to make direct passes, but I'm getting used to it (wish it was more like 2K in that regard). I think this game will really open up for me once I master all the little nuances of the gameplay.

All in all I am very pleasantly surprised and think this is the best NBA Live in many a year. I might still check out 2K9 for the PC.

Actually, this was one of the most disappointing aspects (to me) of a greatly improved game.

The BAP mode in Live is a whopping 'one game' and you can't even be yourself (created player).

I expect next year's Live to have a full-featured BAP mode, just like NHL has.

anyone know if there is a way to make free throws harder? In PRO diff level, they are way too easy. I am shooting 100% every game. Maybe I can edit all my players? Does it get harder if I bump it up to ALLSTAR?

I Edited my team's ratings for Free Throws and it's much more enjoyable. I did a Global -25 on all Free Throw Ratings and the worse free throw shooters have only 1 green bar and the worse ones have 2 or 2 1/2 green bars to hit.
Much better and only took 5 seconds. My only concern is that every time I download new rosters from NBA365 I will have to re-edit because I think they will always overwrite the last rosters.

Off the top of my head, it's under the DNA heading, then "Edit Ratings".
It's very easy to do and helps make Free Throws more challenging.
After you get to the Edit screen, hit right tab to get to right category that includes Free Throw ratings.

I still can't find it

I tried DNA rating but the EA server is down right now. I went to Edit Player DNA but I couldn't find free throw category. I also tried editEdit player ratings and didn't see it either.

Here's me (the little white guy), embarassing Kobe and Paul Gasol on my way to the hoop.

I had the best game ever and one of those truly rare game memorable experiences. I was playing the Heat against the Knicks 8 minute qtrs. It was a close game as usually is the case when these two play. It basically was a low post game for me as Hooks and short shots was how I was able to keep it close. The most I led the game by was 9 points.

In the second half the Knicks caught up and it was a sea saw game. Then into the fourth quarter the Knicks pulled out by 10 points. I started to close the gap and got it within two points with 8.9 seconds left.

I called a timeout and D-Wade drops a three with 0.6 seconds left and that's how it would end. I won by one point, 69-68 Heat. I'm going to increase it to 10 minutes per quarter.

Nope, the game never felt cheap. They got the lead when I had breakdowns on D and they took advantage of it.

I popped in some new sliders I got over at OS last night and I had a very nice game. I won by 3 with my Sixers over Charlotte. Low post D is hard but the game is turning out to be what I had hoped it would be...something fresh and different than 2K.

This is great to hear guys. I'm very much looking forward to NCAA Basketball '09 if what is reported is true that they improved upon everything from this game.

Might have to rent this one again....
