I think this game looks fantastic - however, I'm wondering that in this time of economic uncertainty whether I should just rent the game, really enjoy the amazing 5-6 hours the single player has to offer and return it with fond memories.
Do you guys see yourself playing this long into the future? I mean eventually, would the charm of the game wear off a bit and all we're left with is user-created levels that can't quite compete with the studio stuff? I'm sure the studio will release some DLC, but not sure I'm up for paying extra for levels.
Again, I'm really itching to play this one - just not sure if it's a buy or amazing two-week rental.

I guess it depends how creative you are - if you're not into creating your own levels you could just rent it but at the same time for a game that's been out for less than a month I'm amazed at the quality of many of the user-created levels (the Shadow of the Collusus level is another stunner).fanatic wrote:I think this game looks fantastic - however, I'm wondering that in this time of economic uncertainty whether I should just rent the game, really enjoy the amazing 5-6 hours the single player has to offer and return it with fond memories.

Good point about the short amount of time....You just know that in two years, some guy is going to crawl out of his basement just having designed the Lord of the Rings trilogy or something like that.Macca00 wrote:I guess it depends how creative you are - if you're not into creating your own levels you could just rent it but at the same time for a game that's been out for less than a month I'm amazed at the quality of many of the user-created levels (the Shadow of the Collusus level is another stunner).fanatic wrote:I think this game looks fantastic - however, I'm wondering that in this time of economic uncertainty whether I should just rent the game, really enjoy the amazing 5-6 hours the single player has to offer and return it with fond memories.

You know I'm only considering the rental because there's just so much to buy right now (including $190 on RB2), but I know that this is a real gaming achievement, so I might just take the plunge.
GOTY for me.
I finished the single player yesterday and have just been creating stuff - I spent the last hour making a functioning elevator that works with 3 pulleys, casters and a simple on and off switch. Might be simple as hell compared to what other people are creating out there but the sense of satisfaction I got from getting this thing working was out of this world.
It's like being given the most amazing box of legos ever. The amount of things you can do here are just incredible - best of all, all the tools are so easy to use and there's tutorials for everything.
I'm just in awe of this game.
Oh, the game does an great job of making you go back through the single player again so you can collect more materials, stickers, switches and stuff to use in your own levels.
Okay, time to tweak the car I made this morning.

For those who have the game, check out the level - Little Big Calculator. Some guy made a freakin' CALCULATOR! Sure it only does addition but it's absolutely amazing - plus you can fly around the level and see just how many switches he had to create to make it - absolute genius.
My elevator is looking lamer by the minute!

If you get into creating levels it's just amazing - you spend your spare time just thinking of ways to make levels and devices. The tutorials are amazing but once you start playing around with them you realize there's even more you can do.macsomjrr wrote:The level editor is absolutely insane. I've just spent the past hour watching tutorial after tutorial and I'm floored at the amount of options and the possibilities. What a cool lil' game:)
My fav. game of the year (sorry I keep repeating that but I'm just in love with LBP).
Never played WoW, but I'm with you on this one. I love, love, love the idea of the level creator, and some of the created content is pretty amazing. However, it is married to a mediocre platform engine with floaty as hell physics. I hate games with pressure sensitive buttons (triggers are a different thing, like gas pedals); double jumps work just fine if you want to have a "bigger jump" mechanic. Not knowing whether you have enough run-up or pressure or what-have-you, and not having a way to consistently repeat success in platforming, is unforgivable. I'm glad I rented it before I bought it.Rodster wrote:I'm glad you guys are enjoying the game. LBP and WoW are two games I just don't get.
If I want platforming with interesting worlds and physics I can just play Super Mario Galaxy.
This definitely has become the prototypical love it or hate it game for the PS3. I'm still in the love it category b/c I'm constantly wow'ed by the level of creativity that people breathed into the tons of levels available online. If I had more time I'd be right there with 'em but it just isn't happening at the moment.EZSnappin wrote:Never played WoW, but I'm with you on this one. As far as the touch sensitive jumping goes I can't tell you how much I've missed touch sensitive buttons after moving over to the 360 from the PS2 a while back. It was one of those sacrifices I felt like I just had to get used to but now that I'm back on the PS3 I'm stoked about the DS3 controllers and games that take advantage of the button sensitivity. The one thing I don't like though is how my fingers seems to occasionally slip off of the R2 and L2 buttons during racing games (i.e. Motorstorm).

I heard the game just went over the 1 million created levels. That is insane!Leebo33 wrote:Man, now that people have had months and months to create content there are tons of AMAZING levels. I still haven't even tried the game, not my cup-o-tea, I guess. The same goes for bluray movies, have yet to try it. Still have Taladega nights.sportdan30 wrote:I heard the game just went over the 1 million created levels. My daughter and I still play this one. We'll take a break for a week or two and come back to it and it's like they released DLC. There's constantly new levels to play through and there's a lot of very good stuff from the community. This is just one of those games that will continue to stay fresh and deliver long after its' release.
