Arizona visits Boston this year at the end of June, so the bird won't be a problem past then...

Jays sweep the Red Sox, including a 5-3 home opener win on Friday which I was lucky enough to go to. I know it's only been 6 games, but there's something different about the Jays this year. Besides having quality pitching 1 through 5 (including 3 Cy Young type arms), they are doing the little things all of a sudden like hit and runs, stealing a few bases and moving runners over. They hardly did anything creative last year. Anyways, maybe it's because the Sox look really tired in comparison, but the Jays seem really focussed. Great start!

I actually like the Jays this year...I think they have a fairly complete team, which is more than you can say about them in the last decade or so.

Yeah, they've been using the whole "we can't spend as much as the big boys" excuse for the longest time. I think this is JP's 5th year (?) as GM, and maybe the first that they really have a shot of at least being in the wild card race.

I've been steeling myself for a tough Mets year. I'd love for them to blaze through the NL East, but I always figured there'd be stretches without Pedro, Alou, and Delgado this year. Didn't think the Pedro thing would happen so fast, though! And I think a collapse like last year's is bound to leave some scars. I hope I'm wrong.

I am cautiously optimistic. Let's not forget we're still missing S. Rolen and our closer B.J. Ryan. I expect V. Wells to have a good season after last year, and if the team can stay healthy, we may surprise a few people. Still, they'll be in tough against the NYY and Bosox in the long run. The re-signing of A. Rios and A. Hill is a big plus for the club. Good start for F. Thomas too.

Couldnt resist the temptation and ordered the mlb package on directv tonight. I get all of the yankee games anyways but I like to watch the west coast games when I get in bed and wait for the mrs to get home from work.

That's one reason I wish I lived on the east coast...could watch baseball till damn near 1am. It cuts off here at like 10.

The fact that damn near every game is on in HD this year is f'n awesome. Last year I really only got the ESPN games in HD for the Braves. This year, only one hasn't been in HD. Muuuuch better.

I was tempted to get the baseball tv package as I had it last year. But I decided not to since none of the out of town games are offered on hdtv where I live.

Yes, the HD selection with Extra Innings has been much better. I love the strikezone channel I wish it was on more often. Also seems like for a lot of games, we are getting both the home and away teams feeds to choose from. I don't remember that last year.

Yeah, we definitely didn't get that last year. My girl turned the game on before I came downstairs this morning and it was on the Mets broadcast. I just checked Sport South and voila...the HD Braves telecast. Gotta love not having to listen to the homer announcers.

That's what REALLY bothers me about the NBA Package. I love the Braves guys because they came up with the Braves on TBS, so they had to be a bit more even keeled when it comes to praising/bashing players. Nothing is worse than the extreme homer announcers. The worst are by far the Trailblazers and the Bucks. I hope we get to choose the telecast next year on the NBA package as well. Hopefully the nice split broadcasts for MLB isn't just because it's the free preview and it continues on the rest of the year.

I dont subscribe to the hockey package but notice that the home/away broadcasts are listed as options there as well. Maybe the nba will get on board too--I prefer the Laker announcers.

My wife and I were watching the Angels/Rangers telecast and there was a blown call at the plate...the runner was mistakenly called out. The Angels announcer spoke about how his team got hosed on that call as it cost them a run. We then flipped over to the Rangers network where the color commentary guy said..."maybe just maybe he sneaks in there before the tag, but I'm not sure". He was safe by a mile...gotta love it.

Wife is working today, I'm at home with the three kids and its rainy....looks like afternoon baseball on the tube while we play. Good stuff.

Sweeping the Bosox means nothing if you get swept at home equally by the A's. On all three games Jays had players in scoring position at key times of the game only to come empty handed. So far the inability to advance runners and bringing them home is as frustrating as last season's problem.

Another day without a Johan Santana commentary post...another loss for the most dominant pitcher in baseball. Pour out a lil' liquor.

The NL East is shaping up to be downright mediocre at best.

Who's got the second best record in baseball? The St. Louis Cardinals wouldn't you know! They were predicted third or fourth in their division, and while I don't believe they will finish first or second, they're doing a heck of a lot better than the media thought.

It's 12 games and against the likes of SF, Colorado and Washington. I'm not predicting anything but it's a little early for the "told you so" speech to the prognosticators don't you think.

Good to see B.J. Ryan back in the lineup after a lengthy injury. He'll need a few games to get his shoulder strength back, nice sweep in Texas.

Yayyyyy, the Nationals win! The Nationals win!

Sorry, it's been over a week since I've been able to say that due to a lovely 8 or 9 game losing streak.

Here's hoping now that Willy Mo is back they start cranking out some runs!

Whoa on Colorado. First off, the NL West is probably the toughest division in baseball right now. And just because they ran out of gas in the World Series doesn't make them a cupcake team.

It's early in the season. Let's wait another month to pick out strong teams.

This came to me totally unexpected. F. Thomas was released from the Jays' club after some internal disagreements between him and P. Ricciardi. Some say it was due to bonus monetary issues, but whatever politics, TOR will miss him as a DH.
