Guitar Hero 3 Impressions (360)

I picked up GHIII really only because of the guitar I could use in Rock Band, but since picking it up I ran through all the songs on (weaksauce) Medium just to open them up, and I came away with a better feeling for the game than I did when I rented it for the ps2. One of the reasons for this, I think, is that I like a lot of the upper level (hardest) tracks they chose in this game. Yes, they are still hard, but I found it to be much more enjoyable to tackle difficult songs that I liked rather than difficult songs that I hated.
Rock Band will be getting the Lion's share of my playtime for sure, but I'll pop this one in from time to time as well.

Honestly, the only thing I don't like about the game is the fact that they tied in the guitar battles against AI in the career mode. The only thing stopping me from finishing the game on hard is beating Lou. It's just not fun battling the AI.

Yeah, u look at everything rock band has going for it, then what GH3 brings "new" to the table... "battles" = not good. Both are great games, but the battles are just a bad idea.webdanzer wrote:I agree completely, Scoop: the battles should be removed completely from career mode and into a separate section entirely.
I have had problems with GH3 guitar exactly for that reason. When I first got, the blue button didn't work at all. After about 20 minutes it started working. Now, every now and again my yellow or orange buttons will not work, and I have to wiggle the neck to get it to work. Very annoying, but I still use it a lot. I know Terry glued his neck down to get it to work better, which I still may try. Still kinda shocked they went with a detachable neck for GH3. The second I unwrapped the box and saw the snap in neck I said 'this can't be good,' and sure enough I was right.JackB1 wrote:I am reading on the GH3 forums that the wireless Les Paul had all kinds of problems, mostly due to the detachable neck. Have any of you had these problems and if so, how did you fix them?
Also, anyone using the Les Paul from GH3 with Rock Band? Does it work as well as the guitar that comes with RB?
I really like the Rock Band guitar, but it's very different, and I also had to get a new one via EA's free exchange program because strum-down didn't work properly.
I currently own all the 360 guitars. I like my GH3 for its wireless, GH2 for its reliability and comfort (it's what I originally learned on), but intend to use rock band guitar going forward.
The biggest difference is that the strum bar for the RB guitar is larger and it does not click when you strum.JackB1 wrote:What do u mean by "different"?Naples39 wrote: I really like the Rock Band guitar, but it's very different,
It really pisses me off that the RB guitar doesn't work with GH. If that weren't the case, I wouldn't be driving myself (and you guys) crazy
Also different in RB is that the guitar neck is longer and flatter. Additionally, the RB guitar fret buttons do not protrude from the neck, but the fret 'buttons' are flush to the non-functional parts of the neck, meaning you press down the whole section rather than a button like in GH.

GH3 'fret buttons':

Thanks for clearing that upJames_E wrote:I like the RB guitar fret buttons better. I also like the higher fret buttons, fun for solos and easier for people with small hands.
GH3 guitar strum bar is much better though.
I actually went to Best Buy during lunch to check out the kiosks (which were all pretty much broken) and I though the GH3 guitar felt the best. It was very similiar to the GH2 in button feel, except that the buttons were a bit easier to press. The necks I believe are identical. The RB guitar is a different animal altogether. It's larger and feels more "substantial". I like the feel of the neck, but the buttons aren't as easy to press as the GH3 LP.
I dont think the "non-clicking" of the strum bar made much difference.
I think I am going to get the GH3 package and then the RB game only and the drums when they go on sale separately.
Exactly. Sliding is much easier for me with the RB guitar, but I can strum much more quickly with the GH guitar. I'm actually going to have to practice strumming up and down on fast passages in Rock Band because I can't move the bar at the same speed with the RB guitar.James_E wrote:I like the RB guitar fret buttons better. I was initially very unimpressed with the Rock Band guitar after trying it in the store. After playing more with the final version I have to say that it blows away the GH guitars. It's not even close. I guess if you have a problem with the guitar that's a different story but if we're talking fully functioning guitars here Rock Band's wins in a landslide.

It seems that Guitar Hero and Rock Band are turning into the new things to do at bars/pubs these days. There were several bittersweet moments last night when I pretty much destroyed anybody that challenged me at a local pub.
Half of me was saying, "wow, this is pretty cool" while the other half was saying, "dude, you're a total f'n loser". Ah well, free beer always makes that feel better.

Well I finally got around to getting GH3 for the 360 (I had the pc version before). Question is about that wireless Les Paul Guitar....
The way it's attached seems kind of loose and I sometimes lose the connection if it moves while I'm playing. Is there any way to "fix" it? I thought I remembered someone saying they crazy glued it down tight, but I am afraid that might ruin it. When I hold the neck down tight against the body, it doesn't register notes. It seems to work best when it's "loose", so I am afraid if I glue it down, it will stop working. What did you all do?

Started playing Rock Band and never looked back!JackB1 wrote:What did you all do?
Seriously though, I have the same exact issue, and have no real fix for it. It happens most commonly when I got up to use star power, then when I bring it back down some notes don't register. I mainly just bit the bullet, or used my GH2 guitar.
I found an easy fix. Just wrap a rubber band on the strap post on the back of the neck and on the other post and it keeps the neck tight against the body.Naples39 wrote:Started playing Rock Band and never looked back!JackB1 wrote:What did you all do?![]()

I also dont tilt, but just press the button for star power. No problems anymore. Yeah, I love the drums on Rock Band better...but I also like GH3 for the guitar alone...better. Also the Aerosmith one is gonna be out soon.
I think GH3 is better than Rockband if you are just talking guitar. But I LOOOOVE playing the drums in Rockband!MizzouRah wrote:Why did I wait so long to finally put the game in and play? MUCH better song selection than Rock Band.
With the wireless guitar, the game is better so far than GH and GH 2.
Isn't the Aerosmith GH game coming out soon?
