No problem!! Now get playing so you can get some add-ons for your guns. The red dot scopes are a MUST but do not take long to get. Other than that, I don't have much use for anything else, the A-Cog scope is OK, but its slow (takes longer to aim) and I only find it useful on the m-16. I love this game and its only the beta LOL

I played this for just the briefest session, and it's exactly what I expected in a great way. I just love the COD approach to shooters - fast, but no bunny-hopping or flying all over the place, and you can always drop someone with one well-placed burst.

As for rank, it's seems a pretty minor issue. I literally ranked up within 30 seconds of getting in my first game after 3 quick kills.

Yea rank is NOT that big of deal in my opinion, it only affords you new guns and perks. As for getting attachments, you just need to check the challenges and see what you need to do for each gun and do it. If you want a scope for the m-16, go get 50 kills (total) and get one. I like it and think others will find it works well. The only gun I have gotten from rank that I feel is a must is the M4. It doesn't take much to get it either. Glad to see others are getting in on this. If I am not on anyones friends list, feel free to add me.

played for about an hour last night and enjoyed my time playing. I do not think the ranking up thing will be a factor...I have already ranked up I think 4 times in just an hour of play. Still debating on whether I should pick it up for the 360 or PC.

Can someone give me a rundown on the finer points of the tactical controls? Once in game it gets a little hectic...take me through your button presses when you get the radar, etc.

All I've figured out is that when you get a 3-kill streak you hit right on the dpad to turn on active radar for your enemies' positions. Is there more to it than that?

3 kills-right on dpad= radar

5 kills+right on dpad= bombing run

7 kills+right on dpad=chopper support

So to sum up, the better you do --both cumulatively across games and also within a single round-- the more powers you get.

I can see why Teal likes this one so much! :D

Haha, funny stuff guys. But as another guy who just didn't "get" Shadowrun I'll counter with this:

In COD4 no matter what "powerup" I've earned I know exactly where it is ... right on the D-Pad. And that guy that just got 7 kills and called in the chopper, I just took him out with one pull of the trigger of my stock M-16 that I started the round with ... as well as shot down the chopper with my RPG that I also started the round with.

Basically in Shadowrun I never felt comfortable with the controls and always felt I was at a disadvantage if I couldn't earn cash. In COD4 I've always felt on a fairly even playing field even if I never got a kill streak perk and I always know what my controls are going to do and I don't have to reconfigure them mid-match.

Sorry for taking this COD4 vs SR but with all of the jabs at Teal over the leveling and perks I had to say it's just not the same.

I hardly think that Teal needs defense from any jabs, as he's been the one throwing punches in the center ring here at DSP lately, bashing on sim-gamers, people posting negative comments, the folks playing Shadowrun instead of [insert game Teal wants to play], etc...basically anyone who does or feels anything differently about gaming than he does.

It's more than cool if a little comes back his way from time to time, IMO.

Just to add some more since the kill streaks are being talked about. You are rewarded nicely for being a skillful and smart player. Get that 7 kills and call a chopper in and watch your kills go up!!! Whats nice about that is that you earn XP and level up faster. I really like that you are rewarded fairly. Sure anyone can get there if they play ALL the time, but if you are smart and skillful player you can rank just as fast!

Hoping to play some tonight, send an invite or ask to be invited if you see me.

Fair enough, but I think I was griping about the controls and "rich getting richer" balance issues in SR before Teal (I was in the beta) so I felt I needed to jump in and offer my opinion. And I never said he doesn't deserve the jabs ... just not necessarily on this topic.

 Good man! Taking some jabs for the team.

But see, that demonstrates you have the ability to get your shots in without making yourself as much of a target...as those of us that play you in FPSs are well aware! :)

I'm glad Teal found a game he is enjoying playing, though. Maybe that will make him less grumpy...

Well, I WASN'T grumpy, but getting dogpiled sure tends to change that! Sheesh, I leave for a few hours, and I'm turned into a pin cushion-anyone got a Tree of Life? I'm in need!

Look, it's simply not the same thing. I'm trying to tell you, like I've said before, about the surface of the moon. You, having never been to the moon, can't get what I'm saying, and so are attaching it to the closest thing you can imagine. I've played both. It isn't the same.

As to the charge of 'whatever game Teal wants to play', whatever. There are like 4 of you who play SR. I play NCAA, I play Madden, I play Tiger...I've even played a game or two of NHL in my day(pond hockey isn't a real sport in the south). So that's not a really accurate statement.

And the SR's were being a pretty snobby bunch, if I remember correctly, about not playing anything but SR and thumbing noses at opposing views...

But this is a COD thread, so let's keep it that way-why don't you start a 'Jab Teal' thread???

You can get your revenge by shooting us with your level 60 plasma bullets and calling an airstrike of angry dogs released from Michael Vick's kennels!

Seriously, this game sounds like an awesome poker night edition and I've got a Best Buy gift card with its name on it.

Not accurate? The 4 person 'wall' seemed to bother you enough before, as far as how it impacted your gaming:
tealboy03 wrote:You guys have the rest of us up against a 'Shadowrun' wall, if we're honest here. I just never 'felt' that game at all, but I gamefly'd it primarily because it was the only game you guys would play. .

I can quote you saying more on how you 'can't count on guys' and stuff if you like too. :)
tealboy03 wrote:And the SR's were being a pretty snobby bunch, if I remember correctly, about not playing anything but SR and thumbing noses at opposing views....

Support for that? I saw a grumpy Teal upset by a regular gaming gathering playing a game he didn't happen to like, so we got hit with a rant about how the SRs were putting you up against the wall, and how things weren't like the good old days.

But like I said, I am very happy for you that you are now involved with a DSP popular game that you enjoy. Maybe your posts will be more about the 'fun' you game for and less about grousing at what others enjoy.

On a *somewhat* on topic note, how do you guys find out and get involved in all these betas?? I am envious!

I got in through Gamespot. I think they're giving away beta codes every day this week. If you don't already have an account there sign up for a free one and you can get in on this. There's a link to the page earlier in this thread.

Now it's off to tea with the guvnah.

I took a little too much from this thread when I split the topic so I'm reposting what some had to say that should still be here.
Naples39 wrote:Well, if it's okay with you guys, I'd like to comment on COD4...

Anyway, I've got a few play sessions under my belt, and am really enjoying myself so far. Some random points:

-As I said before, it's definitely COD. If you just don't like the COD approach to shooters in terms of pace and mortality, I don't see much here to change your mind. If you do like it or are on the fence, the graphics, weapons, features, etc., are great.

-I like the perks system. The different little abilities don't drastically alter the game 'in the field', but provide some nice customization options to how you want to play.

-I don't like how you have to earn the perks and new weapons. Nothing has changed on my feelings about giving the best players even more advantages. Fortunately you earn them so fast it's really a non-issue.

-Ditto on the airstrike rewards for kill streaks. Do the best players really need more advantages and rewards? I used to be pretty damn good at COD1 on PC, and certainly the lack of these rewards didn't make me want to run up a lot of kills any less, or make it less rewarding. For whatever reason though, getting free radar for like 30 secs doesn't bother me as much though. Either way, still not a gamekiller for me though.

Hope to see you guys online the next few nights!
Spooky wrote:I'm just not feeling this game guys. For me, it is exactly like COD2 online with different weapons. That's it. It's not bad, but I thought it would look and feel a hell of a lot different.

Way too fast and the omission of a cover and lean system is a HUGE oversight for this one. One thing it does have that I commend is the Halo party system! YES!!!! We need all shooters to implement this.

Guess I am just too into Warhawk right now which is the real deal IMHO.
RobVarak wrote:Whoa, whoa whoa!! There's no cover system? None? Not a poor system, but none at all? Is that even possible in a military shooter any more?
Naples39 wrote:Nope. Nada. Doesn't bother me personally because in a game like Vegas I almost never used, and COD4 moves pretty fast so I rarely stay in the same spot for more than a few seconds.

I was able to pop this in last night very, very briefly. It's hard to comment on because it was laggy as hell. It felt pretty much like COD2 and COD3 online. I liked those games but hardly anybody here ever played those online. I'll be honest, I wasn't blown away initially but it was laggy as hell and it was very brief. I'm going to check it out more this weekend but with NHL 08 coming out and 2k8 hopefully arriving from Gamefly today or tomorrow that's what I'll be playing until the weekend.
