I agree Jack but I'm not sure if it's how athletes have become or if we just know more about it with the advancement in information technology. I'm pretty sure it's a combination of both as well as a shift in what the media reports now. I long for the days of guys like Walter Payton and Barry Sanders. You have guys like Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, and Marvin Harrison in sports now but it seems like the media wants to talk about Pacman Jones, Tank Johnson, and Michael Vick.JackB1 wrote:As much as I don't want to admit it, this guy is right on the money. Bonds does embody what baseball, sports in general and our country is all about these days. Greed, hypocracy, selfishness, cheating, money, etc. He is the perfect symbol what we have become. We complain about Bonds, but we continue to feed into the system that churns out little Barry Bond'es that just want to make as much money as they can, as dishonestly as they can and don't care who they piss off along the way.

So you would find it much more interesting to hear about KG or Harrison going home for a nice meal at home with his family? Please. That doesn't sell paper or get ratings.ScoopBrady wrote:I long for the days of guys like Walter Payton and Barry Sanders. Incorrect. Game of Shadows was written about Bonds, and not any of these other players.wco81 wrote:Nobody knows for a fact whether he abused it more than McGuire, Sosa or anyone else. But since it's him and he went on to hit more HRs (because he's a better hitter than most of them), the hate is going to intensify.

Nope, but I remember seeing a story on Walter Payton growing up that showed how he would run up and down a hill over and over again to strive to get better even when he was the best running back in the league at the time. Those are the types of stories I would love for my daughter to see on tv.dbdynsty25 wrote:So you would find it much more interesting to hear about KG or Harrison going home for a nice meal at home with his family? Exactly. Plus Bonds already testified that he did indeed use "the clear", which is a steroid. So we are 100% sure that he did in fact use steroids. Whether he knew what he was taking is up for debate, but the fact is that he was on the juice. That's undeniable and we don't need a positive test to prove it because he already said that he used "the clear".Feanor wrote:Incorrect. A substance banned in every other sport.
what a joke...please.
Stop giving bud and espn a pass...we all know those bastards were doped up....when you do that you are part of the problem.
Are you sure THE CLEAR is a Steroid or is it a performance enhancer. There is a difference guys. Every performance enhancer is getting called a Steroid now but that is not correct. I know for a fact that MANY MLB players were on speed and other type of stimulants a few years ago.jondiehl wrote:Exactly. The difference is that Andro was an over the counter dietary supplement sold in your local health store. Also, he didn't try and hide it, or lie about it, and in fact stopped using it after the 70hr season because he was concerned that others interpreted his use as an endorsement of the supplement (prior to MLB banning it, and prior to the FDA pulling it off the shelves due to it's possible health risks).XXXIV wrote:

PS. It's "McGwire" with a W.

Yes. It's well documented in the BALCO testimony that "the clear" and "the cream" (that Bond's testified, under oath, to using) are both undetectable steroids. Not precursors, not speed, not HGH, but anabolic steroids. Steroids are illegal to obtain without a doctor's prescription. Going to GNC and buying body building powder/shakes is quite a bit different.Zlax45 wrote: Are you sure THE CLEAR is a Steroid or is it a performance enhancer. There is a difference guys. Of course he claimed that he thought it was flaxseed oil for arthritis which we all know is a complete pile of BS.

I guess the fact that Jose Conseco said he injected steroids in McGwire's ass and the totally evasive answers that McGwire gave in his testimony doesn't mean anything? Not to mention the huge arms and adult acne problem...yeah, all the guys I see at GNC look like that
I was watching a "tribute" to Bonds on ESPN this evening. It was great how they could show each of his lifetime postseason HRs in about 15 seconds.

That's how we end up with junk like Who's Now on ESPN.dbdynsty25 wrote:So you would find it much more interesting to hear about KG or Harrison going home for a nice meal at home with his family? Not saying you...but I hate when the media talks about PERFORMANCE-ENHANCERS and call them steroids. I heard during the Tour de France that someone called Blood Doping a form of steroids...and found that too funny.jondiehl wrote:The difference is that Andro was an over the counter dietary supplement sold in your local health store.
