I like one on one, though. I like having to watch what's going on on the entire battlefied. But I'm currently redownloading the demo, if anyone's interested in doing some MP later tonight...say, 9:30 or 10, CST? We'll divvy up the 'veterans' on each team, so that we can teach you landlubbers the ropes...
I would be interested in trying the demo, but be aware that if there is any chance of me playing SC, I will be unable to resist. . . . Any chance!

So, I have to work Wed, Thursday, and Friday night this week, all night. All of you who either have the demo or the full version, I want to get a good multiplayer matchup going soon. Saturday night wouldn't bother me, but I know it's not a 'normal' night. Same goes for Sunday night. If neither of those are feasible, let's schedule a hard date for next week and get some carnage going, Midway style.

What's your preference of day, time? Mine is anyday, time around 9 or 9:30 CST at the earliest. What say you?

I'd say lets try for next Tuesday. Weeknights seem to be best, and with 24 on Mondays no one will be online to play!

Great article, and is a great description of how the games can go online.

I hosted a game last night, with a buddy jumping in and the rooom filling pretty quickly. I chose the battle of the Philippines, where we as the US have to take out an airbase and a Japanese carrier, and they have to take out the US carriers Hornet and Enterprise. I chose to play as a destroyer squadron, and kept my 2 ships alongside of the Hornet between her and the Japanese area to help with AA fire.

We had one wave of bombers come after us that we dispatched pretty quickly, then the Japanese decided to throw everything they had after the Enterprise. I did scirmish with a couple Japanese DD's, and with a little help from some planes from the Hornet they were sent to the bottom, although one of my ships was heavily damaged.

Eventually the Enterprise and her escorts went down, and so we bacame the primary target. The Japanese airbase was taken out, and my buddy headed off in his sub to get the Japanese carrier, but he was destroyed before he could damage her.

Wave after wave of torpedo bombers came in, and the captain of the Hornet was handing out aircraft squadrons to the guys who had lost their units (it's done on the map screen by clicking down on the stick). What an air battle! The US fighters did a great job, downing tons of Japanese aircraft, but enough damage was getting done that we had to go on the offensive against the Japanese carrier. Unfortunately there was not adequate fighter cover for our bombers and they all went down pretty easily.

Meanwhile a lone Japanese sub was spotted aft of the Hornet, so I took my only remaining DD to go after it, telling the "fly-boys" that they'd have to protect the carrier on their own as I went after this new threat.

I was taking hits, as the Japanese players decided to go after me in order to keep their sub safe. It worked, as just as I was making a depth charge run and bomb hit my magazines and down I went. I watched as a spectator for a bit until a squadron of fighters was available and handed off to me. From there it was an all out brawl in the skies, as we went after any Japanese planes in the sky. With the sub still out there we knew things were bleak, but we were determined to take as many of them with us as we could. Eventually the sub found it's mark and the game ended with the Hornet sliding beneath the waves.

The whole game took 38 minutes to play, and was fun, interesting and intense the entire time. I think the communication on my team should have been much better, as the only guys really talking were myself and my friend. The other guys, while certainly competant, hardly uttered any words. From the way the Japanese players played, it seemed they were talking and all the strikes were very coordinated with regards to what targets to go after.

I did see some of the crashing planes on purpose, including into other planes! However, most of them were smoking, so I can only assume they decided to crash into the ship after being damaged. I did see a couple full squadrons heading back to re-arm, so it didn't really feel gamey. Besides, one of the Japanese players was awesome in his aircraft, shooting down one of our planes just as it left the flight deck, and also dropping a torpedo right on top of a launching plane. Crazy stuff!

Very cool game, and the review is right, as guys get more competant the games only get better. And they are rarely one-sided, and usually both sides are pretty hurting at the end. Too bad PK doesn't have a 360, because this game is like Operation Flashpoint on the water! I can see me playing this one for a long time. Heck, it's even made me break out my DVD's of Victory At Sea to watch. I think we'll have a blast come poker night.

any time is good for me.. Gurantsu, if ya ever need an extra player, look me up...

took me several tries to clear the "sink the attacking BB" level - i finally figured out to launch some fighters FIRST, then some torpedo bombers, then Dive Bombers........ helps alot to take out the other aircraft first..

I finally got through all the tutorials and into a couple of missions. Haven't tried single player yet, but the artillery and ship control is very challenging. Not even close to "twitch" gaming when piloting a tub like a destroyer .

One cool thing I noticed last night also was that on the map screen you can see the order arrows for any of the units on your side. I was able to see where the CO of the Hornet planned his waypoints, so I could screen him better.

Of course in a big battle it gets covered in arrows, but decyphering it is half the fun!

The one mission I had a bear of a time with was the one where you have to meet the plane, then sink the Japanese cruiser. I did that one a bunch before finally beating it. Now the final ship mission is sticking it to me, where you have to take out the 2 US carriers with the Yamato. I've done it at least 6 times so far and just can't get the second carrier down before I sink. It's tough because you have to go right after them, or else they go off the map and you lose. It's a great mission to show the effectiveness of torpedo bombers.

Has anyone heard what type of downloadable content would be available? I would hope for more missions first, I'd like to see a nice US submarine wolfpack versus a huge convoy with escorts, that would be cool. Also maybe some missions based on the Guadalcanal campaign, with all the night battles fought in Ironbottom Sound with the Tokyo Express. Lots of interesting situations they could model. New units would be cool too, how about some late war aircraft, like the Hellcats, Corsairs, and of course the B-29's (I have a special interest in them since my grandfather was a gunner on one in WW2).

Operation Flashpoint on the water...I've said it before, and it's a perfect analogy. I'm looking very forward to getting off these night shifts so we can get a roomful and have some epic battles soon.

I really enjoy this game as much as any other game in my stash right now, maybe more...

None of us know what we're doing. I just purchased the game yesterday, and took it online last night for a couple hours. An absolute blast. There is no other game for the 360 that requires the amount of strategy and teamwork that BSM does.

I should be good to go for tonight if you need an eighth player. What time were you thinking?

And don't worry about knowing what you're doing, in a room with all of us we'll walk you through anything you need to know. Besides, most of the players I've run into online have been very cool about that. All the foul mouthed 12 year olds seem to be staying away from it, too much thinking involved!

Fun game last night, unfortunately just as I was turning my strike aircraft to go after the last remaining Japanese carrier, my Xbox just froze! And just as I was going to redeem myself for the previous game!

Oh well, it was still fun. We had a good plan, took it right from "The Art of War": When your enemy is dispersed, concentrate; when they are concentrated, disperse. Since the carriers were spread well apart, we decided to go after them one at a time, and it was working pretty well!

No idea if I'll be playing tonight, as my brother wants to give Call Of Duty 3 a shot, so I may be doing that.

Also, any of you guys interested might want to check out Pacific Storm on the PC. It's more of a strategic Pacific Theater game, with you allocating resources, creating task forces, assigning missions, etc. However, when a battle happens you can jump into a tactical mode and control it in 3D, or even jump right into the planes or ships, so it's a lot like Midway, except with a strategic overlay to it. I just got it and have only started messing with it but so far it's pretty cool, and seems pretty easy to get around even with the tons of information you have available.
