yea this is looking SO NICE.
Damn't why couldn't they have made multi-player for the buggies and trucks? That would have been the icing on the cake. A wheel is almost a must for me now. I just need to find someway to mount it and use it effectively. Any ideas? I wish they were selling those stands that were on ebay for so long, they seem to be non=existent now

So it looks like the demo will be up sometime tomorrow AND the date has been announced and its only a few weeks away
JUNE 15th, now that is a Friday so I am wondering if thats the Euro date and ours may be soon after ?? Anyhow, looks like it will be soon and the demo should give us a good indication of how it will be.

Ok initial impressions after just a crossover and buggy race!
WOW!! Holy s*** I am hooked already. The only thing I am really disappointed about is the lack of MP with the buggies and trucks. Damn't they have to add this somehow. The buggies are so fun to drive,
The Subaru in the CrossOver challenge was very fun to dive. I sucked as there will be some learning curve, of course I only ran one race and then ran here like a little school girl to chime in for everyone.
The lack of MP has me really bummed though. I mean even the Rally with DSP would be fun, but there is no voice chat to talk smack LOL. Oh the possibilities!! More to come later after some more time with it. This may put me over the edge to get a wheel LOL

well, i think Forza feels more jerky than DIRT. It felt like what I would expect out of a rally car, quick and nimble.
As for the MP stuff, there is only 100 player lobbies where you race against each others times. There is no voice chat only typing. There is no actual multi-player where you race against others on LIVE. Thats why I said it would be so sweet for the buggies and trucks to at least have it, and it would be cool as hell to run an elimination tournament or something for the CrossOver challenges, since you can only have 2 cars at a time.
There is A TON of potential for this game as far as online goes.

This is one of those games that will keep me content on the 360 while others are enjoying the show on the ps3. The rumble and setup of the controller are ideal for rally racing. Since playing CM2004 I've followed the sport on and off and really love the challenge of the various terrains.
As long as it plays more like the old colin's and not rallisport challenge I'll be happy. The acceleration and braking were way off in rallisport, as were the damage effects from what I remember.
Looking forward to the demo tonight to say the least. I assume we could have a digital sportspage leaderboard for various tracks?

Just tried the demo, and you can put this on my by list. Looks fantastic, and is a hoot to play. The cars can have that light feel, but I think thats the nature of the beast with console rally games; since you can't really feel when the tires grip and when they cut loose, they tend to feel a bit light. On a PC game like Richard Burns Rally using a force feedback wheel you really feel what the tires are doing.
Still, it seems like the Colin McRae we know and love, with a bunch of extra toys thrown in. I don't mind the 100 player lobbies for the stage racing, but for the wheel banging I wish there would be multiplayer. PK in a buggy while enjoying a brew or two? NOBODY would finish that race!

Wow! I thought I remembered reading multiple times that there were lots of MP modes. I thought you could race the circular tracks against others and do some ghost racing, etc..!?!?!SEMINOLE wrote:well, i think Forza feels more jerky than DIRT. Did they just change it or pull it out or was I dreaming!?!?

I think the cars feel a little light. But they drive and feel better than Forza. The mode against McRae is my favorite. That car feels amazing from the hood cam. And it feels great feathering off speed to hit your line.
There might be some aids in the demo but I think the driving model is fantastic. I'll only a lightweight sim racer so Terry and others will have to chime in on that.
But the game is fun. The buggies are a nice change of pace. The rally mode is same of CMR. I wonder how much of a little tap is really going to screw up that car. On the demo it seems that damage is only at medium, whatever that means.
One thing with the AI, on the buggies, is that you can bottleneck them pretty easy but they seem to do a better job of recovering than Forza. However you can get screwed if you get a few tires tangled.

I've come to a realization that not everybody knows my preferences lately...you mean I'm not the center of the universe? Shocker!
But I don't like Rally games at all. I don't race Colin McRae, never tried Richard Burns or whatever. Just going against the clock doesn't do it for me one bit. I need fender to fender, "here, you can see my bumper, see if you can catch it" excitement. Watching a clock doesn't do it for me in the least. So don't expect any impressions or anything from me, as these just never do it for me. I'll probably still buy it because I'm a f*cktard, but it won't last but a couple of days for me.

OK, I'll eat a little crow here...
I downloaded the demo, fired up the wireless wheel and decided to give it a quick spin so I could scoff.
And just couldn't.
Even the rally segment, which I traditionally loathe, was unbelievably addicting with that "second" cockpit cam where you can see more of the car so you can get a feel for what it's doing, see out the sides a bit and get some peripheral vision. The co-pilot will be nice since trying to navigate that stretch AND check the mini-map for upcoming turns at speed is a monumental pain in the ass.
The crossover race was fun as hell, but I haven't been able to win that yet. Closest I've come is like 1 second off.
The buggies...oh, the buggies. Wheel-to-wheel, yes! I think I raced that thing over and over and over. Really started appreciating the fine throttle control you need to get forward bite and still maintain a nice slide around some of those corners. If you just plant your foot on the floor, the other vehicles will fly by you as you spin the tires. You really need to find that "happy spot" on the throttle and make sure you get the maximum forward bite with the least amount of tire spin, WITHOUT crawling around the corner at turtle speed because you're not sliding at all. And holy crap, cut a corner too much and hit one of those rocks? That's a hell of a ride from cockpit cam, lemme tell ya.
Overall, this went from a day rental to probably a purchase that will last me as long as the single player career mode does. I don't know if XBox Live "scoreboard chasing" will be enough for me to want to play it more, no idea. If it's possible to set up a DSP rally where you can spend a week perfecting your time, though, I imagine a lot of guys on the fence will take the plunge.
One thing: braking is the reverse of Forza it seems...insanely overpowered. The most successful method I've found is to BARELY tap the brake, if at all, since the car slows down so fast you will overdo it if you even apply half brake. Very odd. Then again, it's on, what...Amateur? The final version will be interesting to see.
Control with the wheel was sublime, for those who care. The rally stage had it peppering with little FF jolts like you're on a dirt road not unlike a PC sim. The wheel would go slack in my hands when I'd catch air and get a pretty hefty jerk when coming back down to Earth. I'd go so far as to say it's the best FF I've ever felt in a console game, considering how much it has to model...dirt, bumps, jumps, bangs, slides, etc. I really, really enjoyed driving the demo with the wheel.

Rally cars have VERY powerful brakes, but they're not used that often. Most top drivers can do the "Scandinavian flick" entering corners, in which they turn the car slightly away from the corner upon entry and then flick the car into the corner, sliding through.TCrouch wrote:One thing: braking is the reverse of Forza it seems...insanely overpowered. There's less "Scandinavian flick" with this generation of WRC cars than the 1990s and the wild, wooly Group B days of the 1980s, but you still see it on fast gravel rallies like Finland and Australia.
Glad you're digging a rally game, Terry.
Take care,
